Person goes insane and cant tell right from wrong.
Person kills people while insane.
Person can't go on trial because of being insane.
The state gives person drugs and treatments to make person sane again.
Person now sane goes on trial for murder committed while insane.

Wait a minute. Jeffrey Dahmer was fit to stand trial and this little scum bag isn't. Jeffrey showered with corpses, drilled peoples skulls and and injected them with drain cleaner and windex and then dined on his friends.

I must admit to being slightly suspicious about his mental state. You still have to consider that if true it would mean living life in his own hellish nightmare. What ever his outcome it could never lessen the pain he caused.

I look at it this way, any attempt at a capital punishment trial in the state of Arizona involving Jared Loughner will automatically become a circus because of the direct influence the NRA would have upon it. The debate about gun rights would become the overriding story and any justice lost in the rhetoric.

Our whole legal punishment system is fucked as it is.

Anyone who commits murder is "mentally ill" most other crimes are the result of addiction and poverty.

Soooooooooooo it seems to me, our resources would be better spent on initiatives that reduce the impact of those things on our society.

Oh yeah, and fuck that guy... no need to fix him. put him in a meat grinder on the slow setting. :)
