MSNBC has suspended Ed Schultz for one week after he called fellow radio talker Laura Ingraham a “slut” twice on his radio show yesterday.“Like this right-wing slut Laura Ingraham… yeah, she’s a talk slut,” said Schultz who was critical of Ingraham’s take on President Obama drinking a beer in Ireland just hours after part of Joplin, MO was decimated by a tornado.
Ingraham, on Fox & Friends Tuesday said:
I do think of the disconnect and maybe the tone-deafness, if you will, of that devastation from Missouri. Heart-breaking pictures and then President Obama lifting the glass of Guinness. There’s something about that, that I think hits people in the gut.
Schultz will address the remarks on his show tonight, and then take a week off, unpaid. “Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” reads the MSNBC statement. (after the jump)
Schultz hosts his show weeknights at 10pmET. In the late ’90′s Ingraham hosted her own show on MSNBC called “Watch It.” Here’s what Schultz said yesterday:
FishbowlDC has a great wrap-up of how blogs have been reporting the news.
MSNBC management met with Ed Schultz this afternoon and accepted his offer to take one week of unpaid leave for the remarks he made yesterday on his radio program. Ed will address these remarks on his show tonight, and immediately following begin his leave. Remarks of this nature are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
This is not the first time Schultz has been reprimanded by bosses at MSNBC. Last September he got a talking to for calling New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie a cold-hearted fat slob. Schultz told me earlier this year that he’d not been instructed to tone down his “bar talk.”

No she doesn't. The immoral part does not refer to a given woman's political beliefs, it refers to her sexual choices. I cannot believe that you are actually supporting the notion that it is proper to call political opponents sluts, but whatever.

Ok first off Slut is not nigger, slut does not belong as only a derogitory insult for the female sex alone it is usable for males as well, as most of my gay friends will regularly attest to about certain usualy indiscriminat sexual men they know. The key word here is Indiscriminant ie that a person, male or female is Indiscriminat in what they choose to participate in usualy sex. However, in this case the analogy is to this womans indiscrimanant use of minucia and propoganda mixed with the real that she is a slut, not for here sexual indiscrimination but for her indiscrimination with mixing lies, untruths and half truths. I hate soft racism that causes a rucus and I hate false flag sexual discrimination charges because some bitch got told what her behavior intimated about her by a man. If you play with boys sometimes your gona get tackled by one and he might just touch you boob in the proccess deal with it, it's part of the game.

Is the thread about Ed or about whether it is okay to use words like "slut" to describe those who disagree with him politically? This blurb is from politico this morning:
"The Women’s Media Center, the nonprofit founded by Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem, sent out an alert urging MSNBC to suspend Schultz.
“While conservative bloggers and watchdog organizations are highlighting Schultz’s remark, the Women’s Media Center also calls on MSNBC to suspend Schultz for his comments, since they not only attack Ingraham, but all women,” the group wrote in an alert Wednesday, according to the Daily Caller. “Ms. Ingraham is no friend to the Women’s Media Center, but a sexist and misogynist attack based on her gender and not her political views or comments is harmful to women in media, politics, and beyond.”
If even Steinem and Fonda, who have been in the trenches of Democratic party politics for 40+ years, can get that it is wrong to do this, why are so many on this thread supporting it?

“Oh, poor Laura Ingram...someone called her a slut. That miserable excuse of a human being slanders and libels people every damned day.”
You condemn someone of slander but slander them one whole sentence back. Here’s a thought. Don’t complain about an offense that you’re perfectly guilt of and don’t try to justify it by saying she does it all the time. Laura Ingram might be guilty of slander but now you’re guilty of slander AND being a hypocrite. Can anyone say race to the bottom?
“As for Fonda and Steinham, perhaps they should take the sticks out of their asses and stop blowing this incident out of proportion.”
And by blowing things out of proportion you mean not excusing questionable behavior from your own team. Oh hi you’re-either-with-us-or-against-us mentality.
“Anyone who knows Ed Shultz knows that he is no misogynist. ”
Ah yes the old “anyone who knows him” argument, soon to be followed by the “he has plenty of (insert group) friends and colleagues” line. The idea that Ed Shultz does not always act like a misogynist does not excuse the fact that in that instance he sure as hell WAS acting like a sexist.
“He said what he said in the heat of anger , and not even on the network that has suspended him.”
Useless point.
“The double standard that exists between what is acceptable from the left as oppossed to the right is preposterous.”
So the left should try to distinguish itself from the right because the purpose of distinguishing yourself from another group is so that you have someone to fight with and definitely not about ACTUALLY being different?
“This self flagellation from the left is exactly why the left keeps getting screwed.”
Wow I’d like to personally congratulate myself for not making any personal attacks even though I’ve really, really got that itch. Anyway if the left does not call out its own for being wrong who does that leave to score political points for calling it like it is?
“The're always willing to hold their own to a higher standard than they hold their enemies.”
Except when they are named tlbuffin apparently.
“Politics is a dirty business and applying religious standards to it is ludicrous.”
HA! The promotion of gender equality equals applying religious standards…

This may not be a popular comment, but I can't believe people here are condoning a woman being called a slut just because the person saying it is a democrat. It is grossly hypocritical as well. So many democrats and progressives claim to be tolerant and speak out for women's rights, etc,. but then condone a woman being called a "slut" just because she doesn't share your politics. I saw all the responses to the post about what Peter De Graff said about women needing to be prepared to be raped as he had a "spare tire" which were right because it was disgusting and he should be censured for it, but then see this. So was that justifiable outrage based only on politics too? Now, I am no Laura Ingraham fan nor do I have any love for the RW in this country, but to me calling any woman a slut is an offense. But I suppose that is politics today which is why it is so disappointing. The partisan politics and making excuses for both sides is getting way out of hand. I hear he apologized which is good because playing into their hands is not something you should be doing if you want to make people understand that you aren't on their level. But if this is how it is going to be when Keith Olbermnann comes to Current (posting wise), I think I will just take a break from here because to me that isn't political discussion and will only serve to drag this site down.

Reality:
Obama's trip was planned months in advance, he was already in Europe, and while there spends all day doing many important things and just important as state meetings is being with the "common" folk for a few hours a day, if you dont drink beer in a pub in Ireland its considered an insult. No one on earth new that the worst tornado in history was going to strike. And there is no way any President could just leave just before and audience with the Queen and fly back home unless something like all of NY sinking beneath the waves. I am sure he made plenty of public comments about the disaster here, tho oddly they dont show that on the news.....Now for Unreality:
TV news media in general.Mild unreal reporting:
CNN:
Seconds after showing Joplin disaster they cut to Obama playing table tennis. This is irresponsible but normal for tv news these days I am sure he played table tennis for all of 15 mins on one day many hours separated from news of the disaster but oh boy does it look bad to the ignorant masses to deliberately choose video bites and juxtapose them. Which is of course why they did it.Mad insane raving lunatic unreal reporting:

Don't people realize the time difference between Ireland and the States. What he did in Ireland happen well before the tornado. He also gave a statement the next morning after hearing about the disaster that was not covered well by the MSM. Also, he is not on vacation, he is on a diplomatic trip. Nobody knocked Bush when he spend half of his Presidency at his ranch. But when Obama goes to Europe to meet with the G8 leaders they try to claim he is on vacation.

There's probably a personal conduct clause in his contract.

You're right, it should be a non-issue; however, remember who has controlling interest in MSBBC now: COMCAST--a very Christian conglomorate.

I hope you were being sarcastic while using the term "christian".Too many folk hide behind that word. You can tell a christian, the word doesn't have to be branded on your forehead.Comcast got me for $300 dollars,I tried everything, even contacted the board of public utilities to no avail. If they've done a lot of others like they did me,I can see why they're a conglomorate. Some one on here said just because you stand in a garage doesn't make you a car. This whole slut thing has probably endeared her more to her dimwitted followers.Ed's a man,he can handle all this stuff. It's not what you're called,it's what you answer to.

Ed, your passion is clear and unquestioned but we need you on air and fighting every night! PLEASE let us folks in the trenches (the ones without broadcast contracts) do the cursing of those craven GOP media propagandists.
To wit, fuck that psycho right wing troll bitch.

I kind of like him for saying stupid crap that normal folks probably say all the time. Although, I don't think a supposed presenter of the news should call anyone derogatory names. I find it amusing but it is wrong and should not be tolerated. Unfortunately, Faux News allows it all the time so it people think it is acceptable.
Laura Ingraham is as dumb as a box of rocks, but I don't think it is anyone's business if she puts out in the back of limos for money. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Some of my comments are not intended to be factual. :)

I wondered what slut meant . but now I am stuck because I suspect it is a slur on sex workers . So if I use it in a sentance my sweet wife and her mother might both be insulted . What if I accidently say the word because it is on my mind from trying to remember to not say it so I dont disturb the peace . The sex workers I know are usually desperate for drugs . Not really doing what they want . So it is like some kind of sellout distinction in the word that puts the offensive edge on the word. Right ? But that means it applies to most of the GOP . Even though it would be disturbing the peace to say the word .And so we should stand mute till we think of some other word or phrase to describe sell out. I love Ed shultz because he is consistant and trys hard to be concise while pushing back against psychotic killers who sold out to the devil for dollars not only in the back seat of a limosine but everywhere. ............After careful consideration I have decided I dont know what to say. I only know that a certain word is forbidden on the left while it is a way of life on the right . Standard handicap on today'scourse. I love you Jan for gore . Please dont be offended that I love Ed also .I promise I will ban this word because it truly is offensive and I truly do not want to hurt anyone . I dont remember ever useing it , and i think i've only heard it in negative comedy , and when people are trying to be cruel to other people .

Actually, a whore is a prostitute, a slut gives it away for free.
"Slut" means someone who is highly promiscuous; or in this particular clase, it means someone with no moral fiber.

Hey in Canada the politicians throw things at each other. You think Canadians are so polite but just watch them in Parliament. They call each other names and liars. It's quite amusing.
