World's carbon emissions hit record rise

Vierotchka
Carbon emissions in the earth's atmosphere have reached a record high, according to the International Energy Agency.

Scientists warn that climate change will lead to unprecedented catastrophic consequences, if global leaders do not take decisive action to reduce the harmful emissions soon.

    • Carbon Emission or also known as Chloro-Flouro Carbon that damages the ozone layer is really dangerous. This produces a hole in the sky that makes the ultra violet rays touches the soil and the earth ground that damages the planet.

One reason about massive rain is due to excessive Carbon. And that rain is known as Acid Rain and some of the Carbon came from many Factories and concentrated perfume even cosmetics.

    • We didn't have a spring this year. Just two extremes now, cold and hot. We had a severe winter again, and now are already hitting 90s. Today there was a tornado watch issued for my area which we never ever have seen in my lifetime here. That window is closing, and still the blinders are on. But you know, Sarah Palin having pizza with Trump is so much more important to discuss.

    • Closely watching climate change for the past 30 years and witnessing increasingly severe and strange weather locally and worldwide I have this gut feeling that by the end of 2011 the effects of global warming will no longer be deniable.
Hopefully billions of people and wildlife will not have to suddenly die before this catastrophy sinks in. This is an emergency unprecidented in human history.

Likewise, as I have often posted before. Winters getting shorter and milder every year over the past 30+ years, in several European countries including Sweden (talking about my personal and first-hand experience) with nary any snow here in Geneva during the winter, but until about 30 years ago there regularly was plenty every winter. Hotter and longer dog days in the summer, and dog days in April and May of late. Until a few years ago, in spring and summer and part of autumn, loads of moths at night on my windows and coming in to fly around my lamps, but for several years now hardly any, maybe five or six a year.

Yesterday and today the temperature was 98 degrees F on the tarmac (93 in the shade) here in Pittsburgh, PA. It was the first time in 35 years that we turned on the AC in May -- usually we hold off until July or August because we have so many huge trees and bushes surrounding the house which create a cool microclimate.
It was so hot that I for the first time put styrofoam insulation over the goldfish ponds in an act of compassion and desperation!
I am contemplating building Mylar tents to protect my plants and fish, reflecting the UV back up. Perhaps if enough people began doing that you could see it from space.....

    • Good thing we are cutting education across the country so that fewer and fewer people understand the science of climate change! Just make the country more ignorant than it has already has become!

    • Unfortunately, they're just shouting into the hurricane that is the MSM.

Somebody else is just way louder and way more influential, so nothing will happen.

And, to be honest, NASA was pretty sure that the deadline was 2005 for, at the very least, not creating new carbon emissions. That deadline was six years ago, nothing has been done, and we are further away from getting anything done now than we were back in the 90's before all the noise started.

We're going to have to start dealing with the consequences of Climate Change, because it's far too late to stop it.

Although, judging by the current state of political and economic culture, everyone but the rich will probably just get fucked and no one will care.

It's going to be a train-wreck in slow motion. And you can bet your ass that the same people who denied it now will minimize it in the future.

    • They said stop cutting the trees use computers instead of paper than they put out a new ipad everyone is clamoring to buy every 6 months causing untold kinds of carbon emissions to produce. Sure we use less paper but we use more stuff that damages the environment even worse, there was a time you could go 5-10 years without changing your cell phone 10-15 years without getting a new television or stereo, if a cassette or 8track unraveled we knew how to fix it.

Now look, we have the new phone every few months, new tablet, new laptop because they couldn't figure out after all these years how to make those things upgradeable. New ipod because the other one is filled up new plasma tv, oh wait new lcd tv, oh wait but thats hd but its not 1080p, ok got my 1080p now the 3d tvs are coming oh shit gotta get a dvd player oh wait gotta get a hd dvd player, damn thats no good now gotta buy a blu-ray, we lose or damage cd's we buy or burn new ones etc etc

The fact that all our new electronics are built to be throwaways is increasing the carbon emissions, android iphone and blackberry nokias tablets and phones tv and computer monitors all going to the junk heap.

There is no reason you shouldnt be able to turn your old ipad in to get fixed up with the new processor and save a few bucks on your cost, while apple saves a few bucks on manufacturing, moves should be made to correct this unnecessary waste of resources.

    • GENERALNATTY:

So true. I have a very old cell phone, works fine, and I very rarely use it. I use my computers for years until they break down completely. I did recently purchase a LED flat-screen TV after my 20+ year-old TV set gave up the soul beyond repair. My son and some of his friends have created a small repair company called Podspital where they fix and repair old macs, old ipods and ipads at very affordable prices to keep them "alive". It is a very successful little business which won a prize awarded each year to small businesses which deal with sustainability and environment protection.

    • GENERALNATTY:

      Unfortunately, that just isn't true.

Old computer devices cannot be brought in and upgraded to new hardware without essentially throwing out everything inside.

When breakthroughs are made in, for instance, CPU technology, the structure of the circuits is incompatible with the old hardware. So if you get a new CPU, you also need a new motherboard. And if you're replacing the motherboard, you're practically replacing the entire unit. It ends up being far more expensive.

What you should do instead is save all of your old phones and either sell them cheaply or give them to those who need them.

Also, there are schools all over the world that would love to have a computer. So as long as it's functional, donate it to good will.

But the upgrade idea just isn't feasible. Computers aren't like cars or dishwashers or other mechanical devices, where the core parts haven't really changed for decades. Every four years or so, the component parts of a new computer are so radically different that they barely compare to their predecessors.

    • GENERALNATTY:

      Indeed! It's ridiculous.
People ask me "why?!" when I tell them I downgraded my cell phone. And there's the problem. People don't understand energy at all.

Normally even the bodies of animals are broken down into nutrients by decomposers to feed the soil, plants and microbes... and we don't even allow that. We put ourselves in coffins... forever sequestering our energy out of a system that is desperately in need of balance.

It's really quite simple. The resources here are limited. Sunlight is technically unlimited, but every other atom ( and by extension, molecule ) on this planet is finite. We only have so much carbon, water, iron, etc. We interrupt the functions of a vast and interconnected system, and we will soon know the true consequences of this.

Well said. Its a simple concept to grasp but it seems like a very small population of the planet actually realize it or seem to care. We live on a planet with FINITE RESOURCES which we, PEOPLE, have came from and evolved out of atoms to molecules to single celled organisms to the multi celled organisms we are today. People have to start realizing that we have to find a balance between what we take from the earth and what we consider as trash and throw away. Right now according to epa.gov the MSW(municipal solid waste) that is recycled and composted is 33.8% and 11.9%. That leaves a total of 54.3% of all MSW is sent to the land fill. If we are to find a balance with this planet with the exponential increase of our population we have to recycle close to 100% of everything we use!

sorry im late in responding but, i was really thinking of apple when i was talking about upgrades, i don't buy for a second that apple for example really is not sitting on technology that is years ahead of what they release, i mean think about it they put out a ipad and within 8 months they have a new one developed and 4 months later they have it ready for manufacture, clearly they have the technology already around they are putting out stuff with 32 gig sdcards inside them when we know damn well that 64 gig technology is already available, they have most of this stuff already, ready.

I have no doubt there is a iphone 7 or 8 technology already developed, apple spends millions in research and then milks what they got for every penny.

    • The world is dying and the deniers are like Nero, fiddling while Rome burned. By the time people wake up and realize that this is real it will be too late to repair the damage. It is already affecting our food chain. All these major storms and flooding is the result of global climiate change because of the emissions being released into the air. Can you imagine what is going to happen to food prices after all these floods occurring on farm land this year? It is already too late to plant many crops. And with the economy such as it is, you soon won't be able to afford to eat. It is all relative and tied together.
