Sarah Palin would be so proud to see Obama adopting her approach to animal management.

What is wrong with this? Invasive species are proven to be detrimental to the ecosystem, and these pigs are no exception. If anything, let hunters have automatic weapons and attack it head on. I'm sure there's other ways to go about it other than firearms... maybe supporting their predators. Though, I doubt they have many predators and that's why they're such a huge problem. The 'circle of life' is out of balance (probably our fault too), and it's up to us to control that if we don't want a bigger problem on our hands.
This isn't a plan to 'kill animals' this is a plan to eliminate a growing population of invasive species (pigs). They're not going in and slaughtering all wildlife... that would create more problems. This is an attempt to balance the ecosystem.
Go ask an Australian how rabbits were a problem and see what the majority feels about 'killing animals'. These situations are dire and have far reaching consequences if not controlled soon... This problem in CA is already out of control and now it's a scramble to address it ASAP.

It is a plan to kill animals.
Every one of the things you claim justify slaughter from the air can be said about humans, as well.
So when do you start advocating slaughtering humans from the air?

Seeing as we already slaughter humans from the air, at least its consistent. I don't advocate killing of humans... I'm one of those people that wishes to further our species on this planet.
Part of that is figuring out how nature works and preventing our actions from kicking it out of balance. Predators play a huge roll in maintaining balance in an ecosystem... More often than not, we've removed the majority of predators and that has put the burden on us to be that predator.
This is a plan to kill AN animal. Not all animals, just this specific case of overpopulation that threatens the greater ecosystem. We are, of course, a threatening species ourselves... I'll give you that, but we're also well aware of our impact and can curb it in other ways beside slaughtering ourselves. For these pigs there's few options. If you're so against it... What is your solution to the problem? Shed some light on another way we could control the population or perhaps curb their impact on the environment.

If the herd needs to be culled in a given state, why have the federal govt do it? Where I live, the deer population occasionally gets so large that the state troopers come in and cull the heard. The meat is then given to soup kitchens etc through Hunters for the Hungry.

Wild pigs can be destructive to the habitat they're in, to native wildlife, to people's property, they carry disease that can be transmitted to domesticated hogs endangering consumers, and they can attack and harm people.
Soooo, why not kill wild hogs? Because the one in this picture looks kinda cute and fuzzy?

Also, we aren't allowed to shoot the humans, not even the unintelligent ones that can't be reasoned with.
