It only takes one person with a gun to turn dozens into helpless victims. For the people for banning guns WHY do you think someone that is going to commit a crime is going to follow purchasing laws? "Man,I really want to kill someone with a gun but that damn law."hahahaha

I offer my sincerest condolences to the innocent victims and their families. This should never have happened, but I'm feel sad for the old man too. The divorce attorney must have really stuck it to him.
Tough break for an old guy. We treat old people like shit in this country. You're right. These were suppose to be his golden years. I guess the mind can only stand so much.

Ok I can see being pissed about the divorce and killing the ex, who hasn't thought about killing an ex, I mean really. But killing random people because the ex wife is a bitch who took all your money to go hang with some 20 something down in Florida is not cool man, kill the ex wife, kill her lover, hell kill the cat and dogs too, but please leave the public out of your drama.

Once again, AZ shows the way when it comes to responsible possession of guns. How long will it take for the NRA or a pol to say "If only there had been more guns there. A tragedy may have been averted.?"

Well if someone had a gun to shoot him when he started up perhaps a tragedy would have been averted. Look at Switzerland, everyone owns a gun and crime is virtually non existent. I'm just saying, gun control in the end helps no one but the criminals.

Maybe the people of Switzerland are just more rational, law abiding citizens who don't start shooting as a first response. Remember the Gaby Giffords shooting? A guy who just came up on the scene with his piece almost took out the people who were bringing Loughner down. That would've helped the situation wouldn't it have? There is never any proof that having a gun in another person's hand would've changed the situation one bit, especially if they are not trained to use it properly or at the appropriate time. Legislation is going through the WI state legislature right now for conceal and carry without any rule to get proper education on gun safety and the City of Milwaukee police chief is speaking out strongly against it. America is a growingly more violent society and more guns just means more violence whoever has the gun in their hand

Well which is it, irrational people or the gun?
Read the "Armed Citizen" in the American Rifleman magazine. Many examples of having a gun in a persons hand changing the situation. Take a look at Kennesaw, Georgia for more. There are plenty of examples. You can dial 911 and wait for minutes for help to arrive or, when seconds count, take some personal responsibility and defend yourself. I would rather have a 1911 in my hand than a police dispatcher on the phone. - 12 months ago

Leen61:
Well now thats just ridiculous, if people dont know what to do with a gun they should not have one. My dad started teaching us gun safety as soon as we could walk. We learned important rules like if you dont intend to kill it dont point your gun at it, and gun safety was one of the only times my dad ever struck me, because there is no do overs when it comes to guns. But taking guns away is not the answer, we the American people have a right to be dangerous. I have the right to be a physical threat to anyone who would dare to make themselves a threat to me or mine, and I will guard that right till my dying breath. And really anything that comes out of WI these days we can just assume is going to be painfully ridiculous.

5 Dead in Yuma, Ariz.; Gunman, 73, Pissed Off Over Divorce Case,
UMA, Ariz. — A 73-year-old gunman apparently upset over his divorce case went on a shooting spree Thursday around Yuma county, Ariz., killing at least five people including himself and the attorney representing his ex-wife, officials said.
A sixth person was injured and flown to a Phoenix-area hospital.
Authorities identified the suspected shooter as Carey Hal Dyess of Yuma. Yuma County Sheriff's deputies found Dyess with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound near Blaisdell and Highway 95 around 11:35 a.m.
Earlier, the gunman shot attorney Jerrold Shelley in his downtown Yuma law office, said Jerry Geier, police chief of the city of 91,000 along the Colorado River near the Mexican border. Attorney Amanda Taylor said Shelley represented Dyess' ex-wife. Shelley also represented three sets of brothers who sued the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson after accusing a priest of repeatedly raping them when they were children.
Yuma police spokesman Clint Norred told the Sun that the shootings were connected, but he would not confirm the identities of all the victims.
Four fatalities took place in the county.
Some of the victims were friends and relatives of the gunman, Mayor Alan Krieger told Reuters by telephone.
Advertise | AdChoicesDetails of the incident were sketchy, but Krieger and police said the shootings unfolded at six locations in and around the city.
Krieger said the gunman's motive was not entirely clear but that he was believed to be upset over a divorce case.
Court records show Dyess was involved in two civil court cases, one in Yuma and one in nearby Wellton. A judge issued an order of protection against Dyess in one of the cases in 2006, and a court clerk said it stemmed from Dyess' wife divorcing him.
The Sun said Sheriff’s deputies and Wellton police were called to the first scene at about 5 a.m. after a woman, a friend of Dyess' ex-wife, was reported shot four times in the face at Avenue 23E and Old Highway 80. David Rodriguez of the Wellton Police Department said the woman was flown to a Phoenix-area hospital, but he did not know her current condition.

Deputies and Wellton police responded to a second shooting at about 9 a.m. when the body of a woman was found in a yard at Avenue 35-1/2E and Old Highway 80, the Sun said.
The Yuma County Sheriff's Office was called to the first scene when the body of a woman was found in a yard at Avenue 35-1/2E and Old Highway 80, the Sun said.
Around 9:21 a.m., the Yuma Police Department responded to a shooting in the 300 block of 2nd Avenue in Yuma, where Shelley was killed.
Two more shootings were later reported in the Wellton area, where an adult man and woman were found dead inside a small farm house, before the report of Dyess' self-inflicted gunshot came in, police told the Sun.
The Yuma County Courthouse and schools in the area, including Roosevelt, Fourth Avenue Junior High and the Post building, were placed under a lockdown, which was later lifted.
"The situation has ended and now we’re sorting out the details," Krieger told the Sun. "My sympathies to the families with this loss of life."
The Sun said City Administrator Greg Wilkinson warned staff in an email that "certain people" were targeted.
Wellton Mayor James Deermer told the Sun "rumors are floating around." He called the shootings "a tragedy for our community ... that’s true anywhere."
Yuma Presiding Judge Andrew Gould issued a statement early Thursday afternoon: "We are thankful that those within the courthouse are safe but we are shocked and saddened at the violent acts that have occurred in our close-knit community." - 12 months ago
