      to go to sleep hungry, and you haven't set your sights too low, you won't
      be dreaming of serving others what's on their menu, anyhow.

    • The next step is that one of the private higher-educators like ITT or Phoenix will off a degree in fast-food management. That would be COOL! And the commercial will be a "typical American" of varied ethincity talking all about how their degree in fast-food management allowed them to make enough money to support their family, afford their monthly cell phone bill, blah blah blah... and lose their will to live...

    • The American Dream was never little pink houses and picket fences (for me at least).

      This is what captivates us. This is what we believe. This is the dream of Americans and the rest of the world..

      When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

    • McDonalds just might evolve- in my area there is a Gourmet McDonalds. They have omelets and waffles for breakfast, panini sandwiches and wraps for lunch, real silverware, dishes, leather seats, etc.

    • HELLO!? They interview people on the street outside the US and interview a manager in the US? Don't you think that if they interview a manager at any McDonalds, the manager will speak in favor of their position.

      Yes, Hail the Golden Arches... You know that they do not even give out checks... They give you a debit card that your pay is added to... The corporates can see how and where you spend your money from the use of that debit card..

      I just googled this to find out more about it- "payroll cards" are being used at a number of companies now, including McDonalds, to save money instead of printing paper checks.

      In most companies, if someone has a bank account they can use regular direct deposit. The cards are only for employees who do not have bank accounts.

      In a way I think this is OK, because the age of paper checks is dead. I have not written a paper check in many years, if not a decade.

      KB723...that practice is not limited to Mc Donald's. I can think of several companies that do not send out, or hand out paper checks. Not that they (Mc Donald's) need me to defend them, in truth, Mc Donald's will do direct deposit to an employees existing account However, many people are non-banked, or under-banked. Issuing a payment through Direct Deposit saves money for for the employer and the employee. It also means (when things go correctly)...it also means that you have your money as early a 2am of the day that is your "payday."

      Now as to Mc Donald's striking up a deal with certain banks who provide those debit cards (which are essentially "pre-paid, debit cards with a corporate logo) , and receiving a "kick-back"...(for the lack of a better word)...there definitely is a win-win situation for Mc Donald's when they supply those debit cards to those under banked or non-banked employees.

      The amount of people who have been black-balled by CheckSystems (which is a National clearing company) is astounding. In my work I have found people who have in the past allowed their accounts to get in to "overdraw" and those people have found themselves unable to even open Savings Accounts. Once CheckSystems black balls you...and this is done nationwide...you can find yourself not even able to open a "Pre-Paid Debit" account using your Social Security Card Number, if that number is tied to a black-balled account. It can take as long as 10years (though 7 years is the average time) for this information to fall off of their (CheckSystems) radar.

      So in the art of transparency and truth....if the person sets up a bank account with or without a debit card attached...Mc Donald's will be happy to deposit their payroll check in that account (checking or savings), provided the employee provides Mc Donald's with the appropriate information.

      They do this since many youth employees don't have bank accounts for automatic deposit. The debit cards keep the process automated. Many businesses who employ youth do the same. The debit cards are the same as the kind a bank provides. They can be used anywhere as a VISA card or the money can be withdrawn at a bank.

    • Is this a sad commentary on the "American Dream." What American Dream? As the late, great George Carlin said "It's called the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it." When people get to the point of thinking that working at McDonald's is a great "career".......wow.....this was a painful video to watch. Terrorism is our greatest threat? BS!!! Jam the phoney war on terror where the sun don't shine....NOW! Our greatest threats are joblessness, no health care, crumbling infrastructure, etc. As Leopold said...."ticking time bomb." You bet! That horrible day where this economy hits rock bottom and utter chaos ensues is coming.....fast. This country will fall and when it falls it will fall hard and nasty. It will be a situation where only the strong survive.

      This is a true inditement of the "free market" and American Capitalism. The only way forward, the only way to save the "American Dream", is to end capitalism as we know it. We need to start by allowing Medicare patients have access to the best health care in the country, the VHA system. Allow them to use VA clinics and hospitals. It will save the government billions as the VHA delivers better care for less money.

      Change capital gains taxes to become progressive based on the time held. The less time securities are held, the higher the tax. Allow for zero tax after 10 years. Tax corporations based on the amount of jobs that are out sourced. Apply a tax on value of products imported, rather than the products themselves. Those imported products should have health and safety guarantees that the importing company is liable for, not the manufacturing company. Make them post a bond based on the percentage of the vaule of the products imported. Establish a living wage, not a minimum wage. Finally, increase the taxes on those making over $250 to Eisenhower levels, close loopholes that allow companies to avoid paying taxes, and lower the tax rate on companies that make less than $10 million per year.

      You’re right Leen61. The sad part is that neither party has employment as a priority. They just don’t care. All of the momentum that has been building up to save union municipal employment should also be used to put the unemployed back to work. If they don’t want to hire us we should demand the basics of life. What do they expect people to do? Are we supposed to crawl off into the woods and die? The political class is so worried about protecting the wealth of the so-called “job-makers” that the rest of us are being sold down the river. (There should be enough quality employment for all of us, not McJobs.) We are faced with a no-win situation in 2012. We either maintain things as they are, (lousy), and keep a Democrat in the presidential seat, or risk getting a program eliminating right-wing fanatic in his place. http://sibob.org/wordpress/

      I don't think they expect us to crawl off into the woods and die. I think they expect us to resort to desperate measures, and feed into there portrait of the criminally poor, while feeding their profit based criminal "justice" system. All part of the grand plan.

      My personal situation has nothing to do with problems in the aggregate, and "bright-siding" it doesn't change the facts as they exist for millions of Americans. My one little life is insignificant compared to what is being done every day to the vast majority of workers in this country. I am not too far from having "run my race". I just pity what has been left for the younger people. It is obvious that the old are going to be expendable as the slash and burn policies proceed, and people like you will only blame the victims to get out of any social responsibility whatsoever. How's that for an attitude?.

The American people sold a bill of goods by the rich elite and the majority bought into it without any protest as Constitutional rights were swept away,unions castrated,and sold this bill of goods under the guise of saving the economy and making us safer!       Just look at California politics. Just like the weather it is comeing your way. Although I like Jerry Brown as the govenor.The repugs are stalling California's economy. Unions are a bad word on the street. Home values have been destroyed. It seems as though only the insurance industry and the leagle industry are makeing money and they are not spending what they are makeing in California.
