Palin supporters try to change Wikipedia to fit her Revere comments

"Man, you’ve gotta almost admire the sheer blind dedication of Sarah Palin’s wingnut acolytes.

Now they’re trying like crazy to edit the Wikipedia page for “Paul Revere” to make it match Palin’s botched version of history. Here’s the Revision history of Paul Revere; check out the edits that are being reversed.

Also see the discussion page for an entertaining exchange between Wikipedia editors and a would-be revisionist."

They don't care how wrong her comments are. If she said it, they want to be treated as fact.

    • Fortunately the Wikipedia community cares a lot more about the accuracy of facts, has safeguards in place to correct mistakes and has had a lot of practice with many attempts to impose Wikiality onto the site to be able to handle the problem very quickly.

It's a shame that the Current community doesn't have the same kind of procedures implemented to correct mistakes, since it might be a victory for free speech here so that people can express themselves as they choose, but that just works out to FACT FREE SPEECH also so that anything posted here has as much effect in reading it as "a fart in a windstorm"

Sarah can say whatever she wants to off-hand interview questions, but the "gotcha" comes when she tries to defend those statements as facts and pass them off to others as facts to continue to spread the distortions and lies.

I'd agree that "publicizing Americana is important" and no one more than the people who have such a hazy grasp of it needs to "learn about our past and our challenges"

That crucial need to learn applies to Palin most of all and for everyone to learn the ability to use some critical thinking skills instead of just agreeing with what sounds good.

    • From the Washington Times

It soon turned out, however, that Mrs. Palin's version of history was correct. While Revere warned the Americans that the British were coming, he also warned the British - not for their benefit - that the Americans were coming. When Revere was detained by British soldiers during his ride, he told them, in his own words, "that their troops had catched aground in passing the River, and that There would be 500 Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up." As for the bells and gunshots, David Hackett Fischer - in the 1994 book "Paul Revere's Ride" - quotes a townsman saying that on that night, "repeated gunshots, the beating of drums and the ringing of bells filled the air."

The person who put that in the Washington Times didn't read that book since the date was a year early beause it was published by Oxford University Press on April 19, 1995

You didn't read that book either because you left out SOME IMPORTANT FACTS in your feeble attempts at distortion.

"It's true that shots were fired and bells were rung, but not by Revere. According to David Hackett Fischer's 1995 book "Paul Revere's Ride," Revere rode to the house of Captain Isaac Hall, commander of Medford's minutemen, and it was Hall who triggered the town's alarm system. Fischer added (on page 140): "A townsman remembered that 'repeated gunshots, the beating of drums and the ringing of bells filled the air.' "

It was ISAAC HALL NOT PAUL REVERE

If you are concenred with the newcomers getting accurate information then why continue the distortions and fail to admit mistakes? Historical accounts do NOT back her up on her statements!

      http://factcheck.org/2011/06/palins-twist-on-paul-revere/

So how does Palin's version compare with, say, Paul Revere's? Not very well. Revere, in the most complete account he gave of his famous ride, a letter written about 1798, stated that he rode to warn fellow rebels Samuel Adams and John Hancock that the British were coming to arrest them. This transcription, Revere's spelling mistakes and all, is posted on the website of the Massachusetts Historical Society:

"Paul Revere, c 1798: On Tuesday evening, the 18th, it was observed, that a number of Soldiers were marching towards the bottom of the Common. About 10 o'Clock, Dr. Warren Sent in great haste for me, and beged that I would imediately Set off for Lexington, where Messrs. Hancock & Adams were, and acquaint them of the Movement, and that it was thought they were the objets."

Revere didn't mention firing any shots or ringing any bells, and neither does the account given by the Paul Revere House in its brief history, "The Real Story of Paul Revere's Ride."

Sarah Palin's much-ridiculed story of Paul Revere isn't entirely wrong, but it's badly twisted. Revere didn't ring bells or fire shots, and he was riding to warn two fellow rebels that the British were coming to arrest them, not to warn the British "that they weren't going to be taking away our arms."

In Palin's defense, it's true that American rebels had stored arms and gunpowder at Concord, and that British Gen. Thomas Gage not only had orders to arrest the leaders, but had decided to seize and destroy those arms. Alerted by Revere, American militia members confronted the British at the battles of Lexington and Concord, the first armed encounters of the Revolutionary War.

He was still in British custody when the first shots were fired at Lexington, "which appeared to alarm them very much," Revere said. The British later released Revere, after taking the horse he had been riding. But Revere makes no mention of specifically "warning" the British against trying to seize arms. In fact, the Americans moved most of the arms before Gen. Gage's troops could find them.

    • The only thing that amazes me is that anyone actually pays attention to the words coming out of her mouth.

The homeless guy I walked by this morning on the way into my office was mumbling into the garbage can food stuck in his beard. He is a much more credible person in my eyes, yet not one TV camera was there to record the event. What gives?

I think we have a double standard in this country.

    • The Prom Queen was caught flat footed by a question that she had not been previously coached on how to respond. On Sunday, Chris Wallace asked her about her rambling of Revere's ride and she responded with a very well rehearsed animated display of self righteousness. Palin did not admit she was talking out of her butt. She is a puppet. NOT THE DAUGHTER OF LIBERTY! You Betcha! Dumb-ass!

      Ahem: FYI...
~ That (Palin) the Republican non-candidate, in fact, knew more about the actual facts of Revere's midnight ride than all those idiots unknowingly revealing their own ignorance by laughing at her faux faux pas? How secretly embarrassing this must be, to be forced to face that you're dumber than the reputed dummy.

As it happens, though, such phenomena are regular occurrences in American politics, reminding consumers of news to be wary when some fresh story seems to fit contemporary assumptions so absolutely perfectly.

The well-known fable is Revere's late-night ride to warn fellow revolutionaries that the British were coming.
~ Less known, obviously, is the rest of the evening's events in which Revere was captured by said redcoats and did indeed defiantly warn them of the awakened militia awaiting their arrival ahead and of the American Revolution's inevitable victory.

Palin knew this. The on-scene reporters did not and ran off like Revere to alert the world to Palin's latest mis-speak - - which it wasn't.
~ Like a number of famous faux gaffes in American politics, the facts of the situation no longer really matter.

The initial impression was eagerly grabbed by so many, starting with the reporter and millions of others gleefully sharing the story that reinforced their beliefs and/or desires.

Then she is like the average American. Highest graduation rates in the country Fairfax Co, VA and Montgomery Co, MD. The majority of those grads who do go to college, go to the community college in their respective counties. No one is underestimating Sarah Palin, "because" of how she speaks.

We have accepted the fact that she is probably suffering from an undiagnosed form of schizophrenia. We are amazed that she hasn't been Baker Acted and that a 7:30 exam has not been held for her benefit.

Now before you shout me down, please allow me to share with you some of the signs of schizophrenia.

1.Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by a disintegration of thought processes and of emotional responsiveness. It most commonly manifests as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking, and it is accompanied by significant social or occupational dysfunction.

      2. Palin...and even her counterpart Michelle Bachmann has repeatedly admitted to hearing voices that encourage them to "DO" things.

      3. If there was ever a greater example of disorganized speech and thinking observed in another human being...please reference it for me.

We are not underestimating her. We...those of us with normal, mental faculties...recognize quite clearly that she is mentally ill. We don't underestimate it. We recognize that she is in full-blown schizophrenia.

What is sad,...(and this speaks to this country's state of affairs in treating the mentally ill)...what is sad; is the fact that no one has acted; not only in Sarah Palin's best interest...but the best interest of society at large, and have not 5150'd Ms. Palin in to receiving care and making it compulsory and removing from Palin's decision to be treated for an obvious mental disorder as "optional."

Schizophrenia is a manageable disease, and while it is not curable, it can managed with medication so she can have the opportunity to live at least a semi-normal life. It is highly unfair to have have the public suffer along with her. It is not an empathetic or a sympathetic act to allow this woman to suffer so greatly and is cruel and unusual punishment to not have here receive the mental help she so desperately needs.

We as the American public are suffering Sarah Palin in-spite of the fact that there is treatment available. And that is tragic all around!

Paul Revere never said anything to the British about them taking our guns, NEVER. You're making it up and so is she. Paul Revere did not ride to warn the British, as she said. He rode to alert the colonists. Yes, Paul Revere did run into a contingent of soldiers at them end of his ride and he told them about the militia organizing, but he did NOT engage in some kind of trash talking about how they we not going to take our guns. It is manifestly not true. And I stand by my original point:
Anything she said that was actually correct, was correct by random chance and surrounded by so much wrong.

At least your considering the subject instead of just sitting around writing Palin is stupit na nana na na na
Your fellow libs have shits for brains and are like little kids.
There is a matter of debate among historians about this and some do believe that Revere told the British Officers that he had warned citizenry for 500 miles and that they would never be able to surprise them because there are bells in every church and they were in for a fight.
This is not the kind of thing that most people know or would just spout off - clearly she had been told it on her visit or read it.

This was all in response to the question " what will take away from this visit?" - A benign question that hardly seems to justify the hysterical reaction from libs who hang on her every word even though they claim they can't listen to her.

Libs are far more amuzing in they're reaction to anything they deem as a threat to their socialist utopia than the casual words of Sarah Palin.

    • I would liken it to derailment. Palin's Bus Tour across America is an accident waiting to happen. The wheels are slowly coming off the bus, and it's only a matter of time that the Palin bus will come flying off of the road.

She can not politicize (speak) for) for the party (GOP, Tea Bagged Party or otherwise) with out speaking. Therein lies the problem. She can not campaign for herself with out speaking. And unless she is spewing vitriol to a choir willing to hum along with the same tune she sings; her melody is out of tune with the rest of the US Public and constituency.

She hasn't anything of sustenance to say.

She has had three years to crack a book, or even open up a "Cliff's Notes; at the very least.

Now maybe she's an adult with a learning disability...(shrugs)....or...maybe she's just so low in her mentality that it really doesn't matter to her because she hasn't the where-with-all to see how her lack knowledge SHOULD matter.

I liken people's amazement of her (Sarah Palin's) limited literacy like expecting a blind-man to have the miracle sight because his blindness is more a hindrance to those around him than the blind-man himself or those who ARE blind. People have to work that much harder with her, and quite frankly people just don't see that she is worth the investment of time. It's not rewarding, and any future rewards are nonexistent because she doesn't get it NOW,...and there is no future hope that she will be able to actually get it ever.

Sarah Palin is like the 2am barfly who looks great at 2am. It's in the light of day that you look over to that face on the other pillow and you shriek and scream: "What the fuck have I done??" And then you hustle the barfly up and out of the house and you just can't shower enough to wash off the 2an barfly's presence. It's the effect of looking at the world through beer goggles. At some point in your life you sober up. And what you see is frightening!

For five minutes she is effective. After five minutes she's annoying. her twitching eye is a distraction. You wonder if she is a stroke victim. Really...it would be so much easier if there was an explanation for her limited attributes. Because no one can believe within their hearts of hearts that anyone can be as obtuse as Sarah Palin is.
