A millionaire from Chicago has managed to buy his way out of jail despite being found guilty of killing two British citizens in a hit-and-run accident in Florida. Thirty-six-year-old Ryan Levin faced up to 30 years in jail for two counts of vehicular homicide and fleeing an accident scene. Levin, who drove a $120,000 Porsche, initially denied involvement in the accident. He avoided a jail sentence by paying an undisclosed settlement to the widows of his victims. Instead of jail he was sentenced to two years house arrest, 10 years probation. This was not Levin’s first offense. In 2006 he ran over a Chicago police officer. He could still be extradited to Illinois for violating his parole.

    • "Today, under the Koch Brothers, there are two Americas, not one: One America that does the work, another that reaps the reward. One America that pays the taxes, another America that gets the tax breaks. One America - middle-class America - whose needs Washington has long forgotten, another America - narrow-interest America - whose every wish is Washington's command. One America that is struggling to get by, another America that can buy anything it wants, even a Congress and maybe even a Republic Syndicate President."

    • Justice isn't blind - She's peeking under that blindfold to see how much money you have.
Different set of rules. One for the rich, one for the poor.

    • I'm sick of these damn rich fucks getting away with everything and anything! I saw this story at Michael Moore's site. The widows accepting the money? That says something about them. This reminds me of a story here in WI. A year ago a little girl got hit by a car and killed. This happened in Greendale Village, an area where you can't drive fast at all. You're lucky if you can go 10 miles an hour, especially where the store fronts are located. The little girl was walking her bike across the street with her mother and another adult. This woman driver managed to hit her anyway. Our local news said no drugs or alcohol was involved. My husband and I wondered why this woman driver wasn't put behind bars. We also noticed the mother of the dead little girl never showed any outrage. Where is the outrage?! The mother said the "guilt" was enough for the driver. BS! We smelled settlement! This mother must have gotten alot of money to not press charges on the driver....the money was more important than the fact her daughter's life was taken away. Money solves everything, doesn't it? Here's the MM link to this story.

    • Figures it would happen in a corrupt city. Chicago is known for corruption... now this just shows how money can buy you freedom, in a corrupt city.

    • The widows of the victims took money from the man who killed their husbands? I had to read that twice. They might as well have been driving the car!

I can just imagine how that went down. He had his lawyers contact the victimized families "would you like to drop this and have money or pursue this and be broke for the rest of your lives?
