Any state that makes this a law should provide free photo voter I.D. cards.

If you must have a State ID to vote, and there's a fee to get such ID, isn't it a defacto poll tax?

This law that has been passed is to prevent thousands of illegal immigrants from voting. It has nothing whatsoever to do with keeping black people from voting. Yes, it may present a hardship for a few, but nothing that can't be overcome. Americans are becoming tired of people who are not American citizens voting illegally in elections. It has nothing to do with racism and everything to do with legal citizens of this country. Folks are fed up with the cost to taxpayers that illegals are causing in states that are on the verge of bankruptcy. We can no longer afford to give free health care, educations, etc. to the whole world.

We don't really have a big problem with too many people voting. The voter fraud "problem" is overstated to keep certain groups of people from voting (specially those who would vote against those currently in power.) Our biggest problem is that not everyone who can vote does.

It's not unreasonable to expect someone who is trying to vote to show identification. As a matter of fact, no one WITHOUT identification should be able to vote. No one is taking away anyone's right to vote, just asking them to show who they are. WHAT'S the problem with this?

Get a copy of your DD 214 since you served in the military and take it down to Federal Court. You should be able to get a 'copy' of a birth certificate using that form. Also I would recommend getting in touch with the ACLU to file suit on your behalf.

Love the racist comments on this story from idiot liberals who are obviously hell bent on disenfranchising white people in the south from existing. You're all a bunch of morons!
Now to this story... this is a very unusual case, unlike the statement above claiming "thousands" will be affected. He has to correct his true name period!

Come on people it's the south, the state that started the Civil War,I'd expect this sort of behavior from them as they never wanted blacks to have the right to vote,or freedom for that matter! The feds should step in,arrest the GOP hacks, and put in a decent state government! The deep South is like another country and the way blacks and other minorities are treated there you'd never know the North won the civil war!

I am a government worker and although there are exceptions, we are not overpaid. In defense of the workers, the training is usually lousy and confusing. That is usually the fault of the administrators and not the workers. Granted, some of the workers are as useless as a box of used kitty litter, but most are good, decent people that should be paid more because they are constantly asked to do more with less and somehow they manage to do it.

I didn't take it personally, but there is a dangerous misconception that government workers are overpaid and have lavish benefits because it is promoted in order to bust unions. It is not really true. I have a decent health benefit package but that is to compensate for the fact that I make almost half the salary my title would command in the private sector.

Actually, there is a federal law regarding election access. If the state loses a suit for violation under the law, they get put under special review guidelines that force the state to receive prior approval before any further changes the the state's election process can be made.

Funny how much people bitch about "Obama care" but when a certified half-wit orders everyone to get rid of incandecent bulbs and "buy those squigly, mercury laden bulbs",
NO PROBLEM!Sorry pal, but it is the same. How about showing your I.D. to the police every time you leave the county that you live in? No problem?
There is NO law aside from those created recently by fascist republiCONs in an attempt to harrass black and minority voters that says you have to show a picture I.D. to vote.
Plus, a very small number of people even attempt voter fraud. I think its the Secretary of State who should be watched. In fact, I think there should be a monthly mandatory drug sreen for ALL of those on the taxpayers dole.
Tell you what, lets make it a law that the government has to make sure all that have I.D. VOTE. Thats what they do in Australia where you are find if you do not vote.
Then again, thats a former penal colony.

What BS! Exactly what the right wing wanted. WI is next, alright. The Reps in my state passed this shit bill. But it's not supposed to take effect until 2012. I'm hoping that when Scott Walker is recalled in January, 2012 that maybe something can be done about this.
