This problem was created by Reagan in changing the tax code to make it profitable to outsource US jobs to other countries. RIPublicans and Democrats have continued that policy to the point that there are hundreds of billions of dollars in profits that remain offshore to avoid repatriating taxes. Jobs have to be available for the population to fund government, pay for retirement and keep a standard of living that most of us have come to enjoy. The tax code has to be fixed in order to create those jobs. We have to tax companies that send jobs overseas; tax the importation of goods; make importers establish a fund to pay for any harm imported products cause (tainted food, toys, etc); change the capital gains tax to be progressive based on time rather than on the gains themselves (90% for holding a security for one day or less, 80% for less than 1 year...); and invest in infrastructure. Without these changes, the economy, and ultimately the country, will fail.
Work, yes I'll be doing that for a long time. The Great Recession have devalued my house by $100K. I spent 18 months on unemployment with two bachelors degrees and 14 years of military service. Work, yeah probably til the day I die.

This Boomer was hoping to retire in 6 years. With the current job climate, like you, I expect to be working long after my desired date.

My husband and I will be working until we die because there is no retirement fund waiting for us in order to leave the work force. We would love to see the young people (we have 2 nephews-one is 30 and the other is 27) enter the work force and take our places but there are no jobs for them, because more and more people are forced to work until an older age. It is a classic Catch-22.
