NBC's upcoming fall drama "The Playboy Club," set in 1960s Chicago, has been banned by Salt Lake City, Utah affiliate KSL-TV due to objectionable content. The station is owned by Deseret Media Companies, which is run by the Mormon church.
“The Playboy brand is known internationally. Everyone is clear what it stands for,” the station's president and CEO Mark Willes said in a statement posted on their website. “We want to be sure everyone is clear what the KSL brand stands for, which is completely inconsistent with the Playboy brand."
“Our intent is not to tell people what they can and cannot watch, but rather to share programming with our audience in accordance with our mission,” added KSL programming director Michelle Torsak.
She also admitted that the station had not seen the entire pilot episode, just the nearly 4-minute preview shown to advertisers in May.
