If the Elections Were Today Obama Would Lose

While many in the media and elsewhere criticize the current crop of prospective Republican presidential candidates and question whether any of them could pose a serious threat to President Obama, Fox News senior political contributor Brit Hume has a different take: he doesn’t seem to think that it will be a problem defeating President Obama in 2012.

On “Fox News Sunday,” Hume explained that the economic problems the country is facing could be problematic for the political status quo.

“If these high gas prices were unaccompanied by higher prices that people are feeling at the grocery store and elsewhere, it wouldn’t be nearly so large a problem,” Hume said. “This is the season of the year when gas prices tend to spike anyway, which is why it’s unfair to compare Jan. 20 a few years ago with today. But be that as it may, he will receive blame for this. In addition, I think it’s very important – people’s feelings about the economy, despite declining unemployment, despite the fact that there is now steady growth have not improved and when the conventional wisdom in Washington settles, as it seems to recently on the idea that the president is a sure bet for re-election.”

Hume disputed that so-called “conventional wisdom” and said that if the economy remains how it is, Obama will lose in 2012, just so long as Republicans don’t nominate a “freakish candidate.”

    • The title of this article raises the seemingly obvious question:
Who exactly might the President lose TO?
Barack Obama roundly beats out every Republican in the country, candidate and otherwise, in ever single poll conducted by any organization in the past year. Obama leads most of the both declared and undeclared Republican contenders by at least ten points, many of them by a dozen or more.
Even the closest Republican to Obama in terms of approval ratings [outside of his own home state(s) of course] still trails the President by half a dozen percentage points amongst voters.
(The President's lead is much wider in Mitt Romney's own alleged "home" state of Massachusetts [Mitt's wife has stated to Northeastern New England Press outlets in recent years that the Romney family lives at his twelve million dollar beachfront estate in southern California near Los Angeles], where the President leads the former ex-Utahan governor by as much as a dozen points in some localized statewide polling.)

"The TPM Poll Average still shows Obama with a healthy lead, 48% to 42.4% over Romney. In March, Pawlenty trailed 47% to 33%; he now trails 50% to 39%. Cain trailed Obama 47% to 29% in March, yet he now trails 48% to 38%. Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich both polled disastrously in head-to-heads with Obama, trailing 53%-38% and 52%-39% respectively."

There is no Republican in the country who could beat Barack Obama in Presidential Election.
Were any nationwide election to be held today, polls show that the Democratic candidate would win by at least 7 points or more.
      http://cdn.yougov.com/downloads/releases/econ/20110604_econToplines.pdf

63% of voters polled said that they liked the President, compared to 25% dislike.
      http://cdn.yougov.com/downloads/releases/econ/20110604_econToplines.pdf
Voters approve of the job that Barack Obama is doing as President by 50% to 46% Disapproval,
      http://www.ipsos-na.com/download/pr.aspx?id=10797
and Obama approval ratings amongst voters as a "strong and decisive leader" [58%-41%] and "effective world leader" [55%-44%] who "inspires confidence" [58%-41%], "shares our values" [55%-44%], "understands the problems of people like us" [58%-40%], and "cares about people like us" [60%-39%] are all overwhelmingly positive by margins of at least ten percentage points.
Voters polled trust President Obama as Commander in Chief of the armed forces by 62% to 38% who do not,
      http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2011/images/05/30/rel9d.pdf
with overwhelming approval ratings of his handling of the threat of terrorism [67%-30%], the situation in Afghanistan [60%-28%], the situation in Iraq [56%-42%], and the situation in Libya [50%-41%], once more again, all positive by at least ten points.

These are approval ratings that the former WBush/Dick Cheney Regime could have only ever dreamed of at the same point in their term. The Cheney regime handily won their reelection campaign, making it the only nationwide election either George W. Bush or Dick Cheney ever legitimately won.
If the election were held today, President Obama would beat any Republican in the country easily. If Obama is to be defeated next November, the self-evident question is: "By Whom?"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 13, 2011
Obama leads all Republicans nationally, but by narrower
      margins
Raleigh, N.C. – As Obama’s Bin Laden bounce fades the gap has narrowed between Obama and his prospective GOP opponents. Obama now leads Mitt Romney by just 47-45 compared to 47-42 in May. This is the narrowest lead Obama has had over Romney this year. Other GOP candidates are not so close. Obama beats Sarah Palin 52-38 (54-37 in May), Newt Gingrich 52-39 (52-38 in May), Tim Pawlenty 50-39 (47-33 in March), and Herman Cain 48-38 (47-29 in March). Obama benefits from the deep unpopularity of the Republican field. Romney is best liked with 37% of voters seeing him favorably compared to 47% who seem him unfavorably. He is followed by Pawlenty at 25-42, Cain at 20-38, Palin at 29-59, and Gingrich at a
dismal 16-68. Gingrich’s disastrous news cycle has taken its toll as his rating has fallen considerably from May when he rated 29-53. However, Gingrich has likely already hit his floor in the general election as he performs just as strongly against Obama as he did in May. Though both Pawlenty and Cain lose by double digits in a general election matchup, they have more room to grow than Romney, Palin, or Gingrich. 33% and 41% are still unsure
how they feel about Pawlenty and Cain respectively. This is over twice that of the other Republican candidates. In their general election matchups with Obama, more of the undecided are Republicans than Democrats, this could indicate that as more voters get to know Pawlenty and Cain, the general election spread could continue to tighten. “Our polling is increasingly showing both nationally and in swing states that if Mitt Romney is the Republican nominee it’s a toss up at this point and that if the GOP nominates anyone else Barack Obama is in pretty good shape,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. PPP surveyed 520 American voters from June 9th to 12th. The margin of error for the survey is +/-4.3%. This poll was not paid for or authorized by any campaign or political organization. PPP surveys are conducted through automated telephone interviews. PPP is a Democratic polling company, but polling expert Nate Silver of the New York Times found that its surveys in 2010 actually exhibited a slight bias toward Republican
      candidates.

NOTE: all results shown are percentages unless otherwise labeled. These are findings from an Ipsos poll conducted for Reuters from June 3rd through 6th, 2011. For the survey, a nationally representative, randomly selected sample of exactly 1,132 adults aged 18 and older across the United States was interviewed by Ipsos via live telephone interviewing on landlines and cell phones. With a sample of this size, the results are considered accurate within 3 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, of what they would have been had the entire adult population in the U.S. been polled. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error and measurement error. These data were weighted to ensure that the sample composition reflects that of the actual U.S. population according to U.S. Census figures. Respondents had the option to be interviewed in English or Spanish. Please note that throughout this document, figures based on Independent voters are indicative only due to very small
sample size. Figures marked by an asterisk (*) indicate a percentage value of greater than zero but less than one half of a per cent. Where figures do not sum to 100, this is due to the effects of rounding.

People, do your homework. Do your research. Don't believe everything, or even anything you hear on Fox News.

When people with more than two brain cells to rub together remember the eight years of conservative republican policies that brought us to this place, the will reject any notion of putting the same idiots back in the driver's seat. • The only oppposition candidate that has a hope of getting my vote is Gary Johnson who was kept out of the "debate". See his positions on the web site http://www.teapotparty.org/ Yes the president is looking more and more like a smarter version of dubya but to blame him solely for the economic woes is lame at best. The reptilicans did EVERYTHING they could to spite his efforts to fix the situation. Do any of you remember HELL NO YOU CAN'T from water works boner to the mere idea of fixing the economy with *gasp* job creating infastructure spending and stimulus money? Every single measure that was put forth from the democrate side was met with lock step NO, even if it was one of their own ideas originaly. As soon as he said it, they were against it. As for the dems being (very briefly) a majority, it was in label only. Most of them were in their own little camps and couldn't agree on the time of day if the life of the country depended apon it...and it did. So yes, I'm going to vote for him again if the line up of morons and fascists presented in that so called debate are what's available as the other choice. Obama's the best "republican" running for office.

      BULLSHIT on multiple accounts.

      1) Obama didn't get bin Laden, the military did. They did it under his watch. Score +1 for Obama
      2) They got bin Laden thanks to INTEL gathered by using the techniques formulated by and used by the Bush Administration and which Obama opposed and has stopped. (+1 Bush), -1 Obama
      3) Obama opposed Patriot Act, but has renewed and expanded it. -1
      4) Obama said he'd get us out of Afghanistan but has NOT done so. -1
      5) Obama said he'd draw down Iraq, but hasn't. -1
      6) Obama said the attack on Iraq was illegal and immoral since Iraq never attacked us, but then rationalized an attack against Lybia, citing the same reasons for going into Iraq. -1
      7) Obama said if we didn't spend $1 trillion unemployment might top 8%. He spent the money, it has since gone to well over 9%, up to 17% if you include the frustrated workers who quit looking. -2
      8) After the initial bailout, Obama said he had to spend more money to create jobs: job growth is at best stagnant, unemployment every month is "unexpectedly high". -1
      9) Obama care has turned out to be a very mixed bag, loved by Liberals, hated by everyone else. I'll score it a neutral +/- 0 for now.
      10) Obama has demonstrated a horrible detached attitude and narcisistic desire to play golf at the worst times, having played more rounds in his first 6 months than Bush did in 8 years. -1
      11) Obama has converted Bush's horrible $450 billion/year deficit into a $1.5 trillion deficit. -2
      12) Obama said he would not have lobbyists the the WH, but he DOES surround himself with them. -1
      13) Obama said he would unite the people and yet he has repeatedly played a game of race-baiting divisiveness. -1
      14) Obama said he'd run the most "transparent" administration in history. Instead he has stonewalled every investigation, refused FOIA requests. -1
      15) His administration has unilaterally decided to ignore federal law such as DOMA, completely undermining the concept that the Executive branch's mission is to EXECUTE the laws. -1
      16) His Justice Department appears to be infiltrated by activists to practice reverse discrimination and refuse to investigate Black on White crimes (NBP as one example). -1
      17) Obama's policies at the border have gotten our agents killed, he has given orders that limit arrests and interventions in order to artificially change statistics to make it look like the borders are fine when they are not. -1
      18) Obama has waged a non-stop war against states that attempt to uphold and enforce Federal Immigration Laws. -1
      19) Obama's administration is directly responsible for the disastrous "Operation Gunrunner" that had the ATF tell gunshops along the border to allow strawman purchases to Mexican drug cartels, and in the end those guns were used to murder Mexican citizens and US Agents. He then tried to leverage off the violence in Mexico to test the waters for further gun control laws in the USA. -2
      20) Obama has run around the world on a global apology tour, repeatedly talking down America, bowing to foreign potentates and insulting our allies. (The jackass even bowed to Tampa mayor Iorio, what is wrong with the dickhead?) -1
      21) Obama's international policy is completely confused, flummoxed, or lacking entirely. Every time he goes to "negotiate" with Russia, China, Mexico, or Israel he not only comes back empty-handed, he has given away what they want without one concession. -1

      Shall I continue?

Patriotism is NOT supporting the president, it's doing what is right for the country. Your attitude of "support the president no matter what" is indicative that you are nothing more than a groupie, a victim of group-think, a cult follower.

Or are you saying you supported Nixon, no matter what?
Did you support Bush...no matter what?

I doubt it. And if I'm right...then that also makes you a hipocrite.

      1) Obama didn't get bin Laden, the military did.
      2) WRONG – Obama gave the order.
-You could call him the Decider in Chief. Did Bush capture Bin Laden? – No.

      3) Obama opposed Patriot Act, but has renewed and expanded it.
-The Patriot Act was created under the Republican Bush administration.
The president did not expand the act, as Presidents are not in the legislative body, therefore they cannot make additions or changes to laws, they can only vote on them. Please go back to high school and take government 101. You’ve obviously missed some things.
      4)
Obama said he'd get us out of Afghanistan but has NOT done so.
-This is scheduled for next year. It has not happened yet, but at least he has a time table. Bush never did.

      5) Obama said he'd draw down Iraq, but hasn't.
-The remaining soldiers are scheduled to with draw by Jan. 2012.
We had no business being in Iraq in the first place. It’s not like Obama lied about WMDs, to lead us into war…oh, right…that was Bush again.
      6)
Obama said the attack on Iraq was illegal and immoral since Iraq never attacked us, but then rationalized an attack against Lybia, citing the same reasons for going into Iraq.
      - We are not at war with Lybia. We’re aiding the UN. You are wrong again.
      7)
Obama said if we didn't spend $1 trillion unemployment might top 8%. He spent the money, it has since gone to well over 9%, up to 17% if you include the frustrated workers who quit looking.
-Total Government Unemployment Spending 2008 - $45.3 bil., 2009 - 122.5 bil, 2010 - 160.1 . That’s only 327.8 billion in Unemployment spending since Obama took office, as per the http://www.usgovernmentspending.com. If you are referring to Bush Stimulus package, that was enacted in 2007.
If you’re referring to the mythical “Obama spending binge”, it’s a proven misconception, just as any lie repeated often. It’s common knowledge that since 2007, since the recession began, policies set in place have been increasing the deficit faster than that GDP. One of which is the influx of people on unemployment, the other is the heavy amount of additional funds going to defense. I’m sorry but you’re wrong again.

      8) After the initial bailout, Obama said he had to spend more money to create jobs: job growth is at best stagnant, unemployment every month is "unexpectedly high".
-Despite what you may think Obama is not our King. He does not have the ability to print money on a whim and give it to whomever he chooses. These acts must be passed by the bicameral legislature, and then passed on to him. He can suggest laws to be voted on, but he cannot not automatically pass them through. Measures that were passed through were met with opposition by the Republican party. As is anything that Obama does. These measures did create jobs, however, they were drops in the bucket compared with the still declining economy. In a declining economy, nothing is stable or level, you can’t say that 5,000 jobs created helped the economy, when the private sector loses just as many jobs in a day. –Yet somehow the corporations in the US in 2009-2011 have continually broken record earnings each year. Funny how there are no jobs, still. I mean we’ve continually given them tax breaks for a decade, and the jobless rate continues to increase. I suppose you could say that tax breaks don’t equal jobs. Reagan was wrong.
-Also the jobless rate in March of 2010 was 10.2%, in May 2011 it was 8.7%. I’m sorry but it appears that you are wrong again. http://www.bls.gov/bls/unemployment.htm

      9) Obama care has turned out to be a very mixed bag, loved by Liberals, hated by everyone else.
-Obama care is hated by everyone, not just conservatives. You are wrong, Liberals do not love it. -This was his effort to pass some sort of comprehensive health-care bill, as it has never been done before. In order to do so, he cut a lot of corners and made a lot of apeasments to gain votes for it. Provided that this is not “socialized medicine” as most on the left would’ve liked to have seen, it’s a hash of free market ideals and cost control, which should’ve been championed by conservatives. Obama is trying to cut spending and waste from hospitals, which drive up the cost of insurance. If you reduce the cost the insurance companies pay, you reduce the cost of insurance to the consumers. The second part is to have insurance companies compete across state lines to drive down the cost. –I suppose you believe it is best that people just stay sick and broke from hospital visits, so that a few rich robber barons can profit.
If you believe this, then my prayers are with you. I hope that the teachings of Jesus will open your heart and your eyes. After all, he did not charge people for his healings.
      10) Obama has demonstrated a horrible detached attitude and narcisistic desire to play golf at the worst times, having played more rounds in his first 6 months than Bush did in 8 years.
-In Obama’s time in the Whitehouse, I’ve seen a man who’s acted with composure, dignity, grace, and who’s acted with great common sense. While I would like to have seen more action on his part, I’m happy with the amount he’s been able to accomplish in such a short time. Such as bringing taxes down to low levels not seen since the 1950’s. http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=3151
Also, Reagan, G.WH Bush, and G.W. Bush had more vacation days taken than Obama.
      http://www.factcheck.org/2010/01/president-obamas-vacation-days/
Please check your facts before making blind statements. As always, I am happy to check and correct them for you.
      15) His administration has unilaterally decided to ignore federal law such as DOMA, completely undermining the concept that the Executive branch's mission is to EXECUTE the laws.
Defense of Marriage Act? – And I thought 11-14 were nit-picking BS. Government has no right in telling anyone who they can and cannot marry. i.e. if you had a wife who wasn’t Christian, and the government wouldn’t recognize the marriage, you might feel differently. Government should not regulate marriage. It is a cultural ritual. The only place where they should be concerned is if you have a domestic partnership or not – for tax purposes. Otherwise all you are doing is taking rights away from your fellow Americans. But I suppose it’s okay for you to take those rights away, you know, because White, Christian, and Republicans are the only one’s who matter. Right?

      16) His Justice Department appears to be infiltrated by activists to practice reverse discrimination and refuse to investigate Black on White crimes (NBP as one example).
He’s appointed 3 Justices as president. Justices are appointed for life. He did not appoint them all. This point is a failure on your part.

      17) Obama's policies at the border have gotten our agents killed, he has given orders that limit arrests and interventions in order to artificially change statistics to make it look like the borders are fine when they are not.
      - You really don’t read much, do you? http://www.salon.com/news/politics/war_room/2011/05/14/obama_mexico_border_wall
I suppose you must get your facts from Fox News.

      18) Obama has waged a non-stop war against states that attempt to uphold and enforce Federal Immigration Laws.
      - We already have laws against illegal immigration. What Arizona is proposing, goes against the Constitution. That is what the suit is about. Their law gives police the right to profile based on racial or ethnic appearance. i.e. They’re not going to stop illegals from Canada…just Mexico.

Amendment 15 - Race No Bar to Vote. Ratified 2/3/1870.
      1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
      2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

-Operation Gunrunner was started in 2005. Guess who was president. Please check your facts. You are embarrassing yourself.

      20) Obama has run around the world on a global apology tour, repeatedly talking down America, bowing to foreign potentates and insulting our allies. (The jackass even bowed to Tampa mayor Iorio, what is wrong with the dickhead?)
-After how terrible the Texas Gun-slinging, war-mongering Bush made us look to the world, including starting 2 wars and going against the UN, we needed someone to repair foreign relations. How would you feel if nobody wanted to buy our goods because of Bush? –Would you just be prideful, say screw them, and let the economy crumble because of your pride? I bet you would. In places like Japan and China, bowing is like a hand-shake. You’re only exposing your ignorance here.
      21) Obama's international policy is completely confused, flummoxed, or lacking entirely. Every time he goes to "negotiate" with Russia, China, Mexico, or Israel he not only comes back empty-handed, he has given away what they want without one concession.
We’re in a Recession. We owe countries lots of money. We need all of the friends and help we can get. Obama is not a perfect person. You can’t expect him to be good at everything. I’m certain that Palin would not do as well of a job as Obama. In fact, not only would she come back empty handed, but she would come back with enemies.
      Shall I continue?
-No please stop. I’m tired of embarrassing you, and exposing your myopic view of the world.
Patriotism is NOT supporting the president, it's doing what is right for the country. Your attitude of "support the president no matter what" is indicative that you are nothing more than a groupie, a victim of group-think, a cult follower.
-I supported Bush while he was president. I may not have liked the things he did, but I did not hope for his failure. Failure of the president is the failure of the nation. Regardless if his views and policies were different from mine, it was not my place to tear him down publically as a person. Though his transgressions were obvious, I didn’t have to go looking for things that I did not agree with.
I also did not go about tearing him down while he was in office. It was not until he left office that I spoke out against his actions. The holder of the office of the President, and the leader of our nation deserves that much respect. From day one, I have heard nothing but “I hope Obama fails” from conservatives and from their pulpits. It’s as if he was doomed to start. The reason escapes me.
But it is very obvious from the howling errors that you’ve made from your generic conservative talking points that you really are nothing more than a sock-puppet. Perpetuating the hate of one side to further their agenda, even as it weakens and decays our country in it’s volatile state. Whether you see it or not, you are helping to create a country where only the rich succeed, and the poor die in the streets. I can prove it to you by doing one thing; by continuing to vote Republican. All I have to do is that, and wait. I live in a state that has been controlled by Republicans for 30 years. You have to vote Republican, because there are no other candidates. We have one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. We have one of the highest insurance costs. We have the poorest education. We are a right-to-work state, and unions are illegal. In 30 years time, this state has done nothing to turn itself around, and has consistently gotten worse. They will cut anything in the budget which is a “service” or “benefit”, but will continue to give themselves raises during a budget-shortfall. That is what a hypocrite is. Someone who claims fiscal conservative values, yet fails to grasp the basic laws of revenue and spending, and ignores years of historical data so that they can further their failed economic ideologies, all the while, they believe that they can pay themselves more, but those "lesser" than themselves deserve nothing.
For an old man, you have much to learn.

Wait until the presidential campaign. If the numbers don't change significantly Obama has nothing to run on with mainsteam America. All he will have is to attempt to drag down his opponent into the gutter.

Obama has done a lot for the gay community. Unless someone is gay or a socialist there's nothing that resonates with the American public.

Not true on both counts and you left out many other groups who will probably vote for Obama. And not because Obama's done all that many of us would have him do, but because the alternative is downright scary. We've seen what 8 years of the last Repub president did.

How many job bills have the Repubs passed? Isn't that what they campaigned on? Obama's not the only one who's going to catch hell if the economy's not doing better.

"The size of the lie is a definite factor in causing it to be believed,
for the vast masses of a nation are in the depths of their hearts more
easily deceived than they are consciously and intentionally bad. The
primitive simplicity of their minds renders them a more easy prey to a
big lie than a small one, for they themselves often tell little lies,
but would be ashamed to tell big lies."

“A lie told often enough becomes the truth.”
      Vladimir Lenin
Russian Communist politician & revolutionary (Russian Founder of the Russian Communist Party, leader of the Russian Revolution of 1917, 1870-1924)

"the principle & which is quite true in itself & that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily, If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

having a chance is kinda subjective. the economy's in a shambles, unemployment is near record highs. obama continues bush era war on terror policies ie: enhanced interrogation, club gitmo, patriot act. plus continues waging illegal wars around the world. so i think its a pretty safe bet that if the elections were held today he would lose. 17 months from now is anyone's guess at this point.

It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

Liberals are easy to bash. They're stuck in impractical ideology rather than reality. I'm a fiscal conservative and social moderate. I've voted for moderate Democrats. I don't ever see liberals voting for anything but far left ideology.

The priority right now is the budget and the deficit. Without the financial house in order there will be nothig left to help others. You can't spend your way out of debt. You would have a better chance of going to Vegas and gambling your way out of debt. "00" has to come up once in a while.

It didn't go south until the end. It was just a pissed off media upset Bush won, bashing him for eight years that made gullible people believe it was bad. If Obama was a Republican the press would have crucified him by now. I wasn't a Bush fan. But it wasn't nearly as bad the the liberal media spoon fed gullible liberals to believe it to be.

I'm reading a book on the Wall Street collapse written by a Democrat and endorsed by a former Democrat campaign strategist as the truth. When I get a chance to read it all I'll blow you away with the ugly truth about Democrats and Wall Street. The thing people on this site don't understand is there are a lot of Democrats on Wall Street. They don't mind rules and regulations as long as the game is fixed in their favor.

Wrong. Most all economists agree the worst thing FDR did was stop creating jobs and back-pedaled to take care of deficit.

Jobs to get the Economy growing is the # 1 concern. Just like the Germans who are dealing with the crisis way better than anyone else. Whereas the Tories in UK, following the Republic Syndicate/ALEC Plan, are dropping deeper and deeper into trouble.

"Social Conservatism" and "Fiscal Conservatism" are mutually exclusive.
The policies that "Social Conservatives" strive to implement are the LEAST "Fiscally Conservative" policies conceivable.
"Social Conservatives" are not "Conservative" by any standard or definition of the term.
Those calling themselves "Social Conservatives" are what the dictionary defines as being "Regressives".
A "Libertarian Social Conservative" is an oxymoronic contradiction in terms.
"Social Conservatives" cannot be, by definition, Libertarian.
"Fiscal Conservatives" flatly defy everything that "Social Conservatives" claim to stand for.
"Fiscal Conservatives" ARE, in fact, Conservative, in that they favor smaller government.
"Social Conservatives" advocate for some of the most super-massive expansions and extensions of the power of government ever proposed.
"Social Conservatives" are AGAINST smaller government.
"Social Conservatives" also advocate against rights, liberties, and freedoms; and so stand AGAINST both Liberalism and Libertarianism.
As Regressives, "Social Conservatives" are the diametric polar opposite of Progressivism.
"Fiscal Conservatives", however, on the other hand, CAN reasonably claim to call themselves "Libertarian" as smaller government CAN potentially permit possibly greater liberties.
However, smaller government can also result in people having their rights taken away from them, which defies Liberalism, so "Fiscal Conservatism" must always be in moderation, as the purest form of "Libertarianism" imaginable would be anarchy, with government shrunken so small that it can no longer function to govern.
