Dave Messlin: The Anitdote to Apathy - TED.
Local politics -- schools, zoning, council elections -- hit us where we live. So why don't more of us actually get involved? Is it apathy? Dave Meslin says no. He identifies 7 barriers that keep us from taking part in our communities, even when we truly care.

ZEITGEIST: MOVING FORWARD.
The full length documentary was released on January 25, 2011, available now on YouTube. Think about everything that the world has gone through in the months since then. This global revolution is inevitable. The system is broken. Politicians and corporations work hard to make adjustments. Though, in the end, its all just adjustments to a broken system. Most people don't even understand the real source of our problems because they wouldn't even know where to begin looking even if they really wanted to. But people are in agreement, things have to change. Nature is telling us that we can't keep behaving the same way our we will destroy ourselves. I know people who still have the mentality of hoping things will eventually change. That is a ridiculous way to think at this particular point in time. Things are changing all the time, they are changing right now, all around us. People are getting together and getting serious about producing real solutions. It would only seem that things are not changing to someone that is not actively pursuing change. For understanding this idea of Apathy, I have another video, this one from TED.

Capitalism is a means of domination just like the man said.
The economy is an invention, yet McCarthyism and "free-market" ideology have many believing that capitalism is of god (he's right there on our money -- in god we trust), and alternatives to capitalism are evil.
Capitalism is nothing more than a perception that keeps the people enslaved for the betterment of the lives of the privileged few (it's the rich, not the poor, who are the welfare queens, for they certainly live off of everyone else's hard labor). Some of us are so brainwashed that we take great pride in working like slaves our entire lives.
This is the purpose of school. School takes natural human beings (children) and through a Pavlovian system of punishment and reward teaches them how to be slaves -- good workers who fear authority and take unwitting pride in their own slavery.
The job of the corporate politicians and media is to distract us with stories about trivial things such as Weiner's wiener, and to manufacture our perceptions and fears for us so that we do not see that we are slaves, and so we keep voting for our own slavery regardless of which corporate party candidate we vote for.
But our masters are too greedy. They are not satisfied having merely most of everything. They want it all. This will be their downfall. The more they take, the less they will be able to sell us the false perceptions of reality that binds us as slaves.
Capitalism is the ultimate scam -- even worse than religion. The most effective way to enslave a man is to enslave his mind -- his body will follow.

So instead of capitalism, we should have what? Complete Socialism, with the state controlling ALL the capital? Communism, with the state controlling everything? You are decrying a system that is capable of being the most open and democratic method of wealth distribution. What would make more sense would be to lay the blame on corporations, and they politicians they have bought, for laws that favor corporate interests over any other in violation of capitalistic and free market principles.

Great point
We're reaching a point where there is very little to turn into a commodity, I'm just waiting for dignity to traded in the market maybe some type of hedge derivative scheme. I dare say capitalism is literally becoming a bad joke but lets not get ahead of ourselves, where are the vocal anti capitalist?
I'm an anti capitalist but I'm a human being first! Let this be one of many declarations of our dignity, our humanity, our collectivity... lets not be the generation that said this and traded it for a suit job.

iowawashington:
The purpose of a civilization is for people to live and work together for mutual benefit. The purpose of American capitalism is to exploit the weak for one's own benefit. An advanced civilization should be able to guarantee the basic necessities of life and a decent living (at the very least) to all of its citizens. Any system (even ones that have not been thought of yet) that can accomplish this will do. Capitalism alone fails to do this; it is a form of exploitation. We need to live for each other, not for our possessions.

Noxidereus, no economic system alone can do what you are expecting. The values that you and I give to common decency are not monetary, but social values. You can't buy goodwill and compassion. But you can pass laws that regulate spending in the public interest. Governments can also pass laws regarding minimum wages, access to healthcare and access to education. Leaving those things up to an economic system alone is a recipe for disaster. Perhaps the current efforts of the elite to bring about that disaster is the reason for your problem with capitalism? If so, you are blaming the car instead of the driver for running you over.

Useless rant, yes there are protests going on in Europe, and yes they are on the news every night. Spain is kind of fun, my daughter walked through the protests tent camp on Sunday. Her description reminded me a lot of Woodstock.
The Greeks always have been a bit over the top, but in general they are doing much better that you poor slobs in the states, at least they have enough guts to have an opinion.
That the American press is ethnocentric and class-centric is no news. That you are waiting on your own revolution is also no news. (The Reinicke Fox credo "Faux News is good News".)
And as far as that goes Vierrotchka spend entirely too much time informing herself of geopolitics and and the historical trends. After all she was born of the revolution, though she has her regrets now and again.
