Twenty-four people died overnight when unusually heavy rains flooded a neighbourhood in Nigeria's largest northern city of Kano, a local government chief said on Thursday.

Dozens of others were injured, 300 displaced and about 100 houses destroyed in the densely populated Fagge neighbourhood of Kano when rains pounded and inundated the city while residents were asleep.

"For now we have confirmed the deaths of 24 people from the floods that occurred Tuesday night through Wednesday following torrential rain in the city," Fagge local government administrator, Abdulmalik Ismail Rogo told AFP.

Rogo said local elders had told him the "area has never witnessed such torrential rains in the past 30 years."

"Some of the victims were buried alive when their (house) roofs collapsed on them, while others were washed away by the floods and deposited along a major sewer in the area," he said.

Fagge is a low-income neighbourhood of Kano, one of the country's largest cities with a population of around 12 million people.

The country's emergency services unit said its team was assessing the flood, but had so far recorded six deaths -- most of them children aged between two and 14 years. It said 276 people were affected.

A Red Cross emergency coordinator said his volunteers had also registered six deaths and 150 people were wounded.

Nigeria experienced severe flooding last year that affected around half a million people in two-thirds of its 36 states and killed scores of others, according to the emergency agency. The agency, NEMA, has also predicted unprecedented heavy rainfall and severe flooding this rainy season that has just begun.

West Africa has seen increasing floodings in recent years due mainly to climate change, with 2.2 million people affected in 2010 alone and more than 500 killed, according to the African Centre of Meteorological Application for Development (ACMAD).

      As La Niña conditions still persist, is it any wonder why these weather events are still taking place? These floods and droughts were expected and predicted.

      "Climate scientists have found La Niña's fingerprints on a number of extreme weather events such as the devastating flood that occurred in Pakistan in 2010, as well as flooding in West Africa, South Africa and most recently in Queensland, Australia, where an area equal to the combined size of France and Germany was underwater. La Niña is also to blame for Cyclone Yasi, one of the strongest to hit Australia, which came ashore on Feb. 2. Cyclone Yasi is the second most damaging Australian cyclone on record after Cyclone Tracy, which struck in 1974."

      Climate change? Well, that's one word for it, but natural climate variation would be more appropriate. While the majority of people show genuine concern for the people involved in these events, some still seek to use these events as a tool with which to promote their fallacious ideals onto others.

      You're a human muffler! Like those mufflers people used to slip over their hands to stay warm out in cold carriages. Except you're trying to muffler JanForGore. Mufflers are also a tool.

      Naming weather systems doesn't help the dead. Understanding what contributed to them doesn't help the dead. Forecasting when they're coming doesn't help the dead. In fact, your entire post doesn't help the dead. And climbing up onto a roof that collapses doesn't help them any more than the entire content of every one of your posts.

      Explaining to the drowning person why they are drowning is nice if ya get paid well for doing so, but you have only accomplished a limited usefulness MAINLY TO YOSELF.

      As a human muffler what you are really doing is stopping the "Panic Response", which is a natural thing that needs to happen because in the panic you have adrenalin being pumped through people's bloodstream which intiates them to take evasive action.

      If you were driving a sound car, equipped with large speakers, through Great Britain during the bombing runs and V-2 rockets you would be slowing people down.

      Therefore I must conclude your need for money exceeds people's need to be allowed to go ahead and drop into the natural panic response humans have always had.

      What you do is a crime against humanity. When people are facing death the humane thing to do is help them prepare. If the time has drawn nigh for them to "get right with God" then they should be allowed that. You step in the way.

      That makes you a speed bump, a road block, two more tools. The Bible would likely classify you as wicked. The wicked have a limited run soon to end. There isn't enough money in this world to die for at Armageddon. By doing what you are doing you are excluding yourself from the Blessed group mentioned at Revelation 7 verse 9 => the Great Crowd that lives on beyond Armageddon to live in a righteous New Earth.

      Your job here is a killing tool, a Weapon, and those who wield weapons against their fellow man and women, and their children, will all be gone in that New System about to begin. You will reap the fruit of your labors, the fruit worthy of a misleading guide. Like the false preachers and the Pharissees in Jesus' day.

      Obviously none of this worries you, but the day the sky lights up with angels you will remember these posts.

      Angels appeared to a number of people recorded in the Gospels and there's one OUTSTANDING FEATURE most people overlook => their garments were said to be like lightning. When waves of lightning energy angels drop from heaven to cleanse this planet of its filth so we can have a New Earth, it will be a fearsome sight. It is foretold at Revelation 6 verse 14.

      Revelation 6 12 & 13 were fulfilled on 6/15 & 6/16, 2011. You and your other Money Lovers are about to be thrown real far away, and from the temple steps you will never stand on ever again. One verse separates you from your fate.

    • Increased flooding in West Africa and increased droughts in East Africa. This indeed is being exacerbated by climate change. And you know, sorry if I sound like a broken record, but this is damn important too and it is bad enough it gets NO play in the MSM and hardly any mention here unless it is posted.
