Thomas's ongoing ethics problem, and (Rep.) Chris Murphy's potential solution (Petition Drive)

Rep. Murphy has a petition drive in place, where you can show your support for his legislation, both in getting more House cosponsors and in securing companion legislation in the Senate. If the blatant disregard for even the appearance of judicial propriety on the part of Scalia, Alito, and Thomas bothers you, go sign the petition, and show your support for an ethical judiciary.

Sign the petition: http://www.chrismurphy.com/page/s/supremecourt?source=current

    • Let's hope Chris has never taken any "Wiener" photos, texted any dirty words or farted in public. The Republirhoid defamation machine will destroy him by next weekend.

    • Signed the petition. I never wanted Thomas to be allowed on the high court. I never trusted the man and he has done nothing over his tenure to gain my trust.

    • this will be the test to see just how far gone our elected officials are. If Thomas isn't thrown off the court, then we know it will be up to we the people to right the wrong that is being done.

    • When Marsahll stepped down from bench under Bush #1. Bush said he would take time to find the right person to fill the seat on the vacant court. With in days guess what there is Bush on vacation in Maine and there is Thomas his choice for the court. This was how bus acted just like his long list of candidates for VP in 1988. The far right go Bush and he caved in.

    • Whether he was found qualified or unqualified in 1991 he is clearly unqualified now.

Here is a reference to a NY Times article titled, “Bar Association Splits on Fitness Of Thomas for the Supreme Court” from 1991.

We know between 5 and 14 people participated in the panel to consider his qualification. We know As few as 3 or as many as 12 found him “qualified”. Exactly 2 members of the panel found him “unqualified”.

“The last nominee to receive less than unanimous support from the committee was Judge Robert H. Bork, whose nomination was defeated in 1987.”

      http://www.nytimes.com/1991/08/28/us/bar-association-splits-on-fitness-of-thomas...

We also know, R.A. Epstein said, “…[Sen.] Joe Biden (D-Del.) held a copy of Takings up to a hapless Clarence Thomas back in 1991 and said that anyone who believes what's in this book is certifiably unqualified to sit in on the Supreme Court...”.

    • Justice Thomas has sat on at least 11 cases where a Harlan Crow-affiliated group filed a brief — adopting the group’s preferred outcome in all but one case. Moreover, Thomas has yet to explain the full extent of his connections to Crow, despite news reports that Crow lavished gifts and other expensive favors on Thomas and his family. Nor has Thomas explained how his gifting scandal differs from the very similar gifting scandal that brought down Justice Abe Fortas.

If people will just wake up and make their voice heard we can fix this. It won't happen instantly but it will happen. I marvel at the power of our constitution to protect us from tyranny.

Just when it appears that America will go off a cliff the wisdom and intelligence of the founders pulls us back with the words, “Not yet; not ever”.

Look at what has happened in Wisconsin. If enough people stand up to this tyranny it can be stopped.

"...six Republican state senators are facing recall elections. But those races -originally slated for July 12 - had previously been postponed as well, and barring further legal challenges will take place August 9, due to a GOP tactic of running protest candidates in Democratic races in order to force a primary and push back the final election, providing more time for the Republican incumbents."

I'm glad you posted this for others to see. I know all about this because I live in WI and I do want this to succeed. But the right wing in this state are circling their wagons and pulling out every dirty political trick in the Karl Rove playbook. They are tying to undermine the recall process by putting up bogus Democrats to run in the July 12th (now primaries) delaying the final election until August and trying to spread confusion and misinformation about who the real opposition is. What did make the front page today in my local paper was an accusation leveled at the Walker whore, Prosser, just re-elected to the Supreme Court, that he physically accosted a female liberal justice in her office. This Prosser is a monster. But the right wing is already claiming it didn't happen that way. Here's more on this about Prosser from AlterNet. The right wing machine has taken over this state.

    • Leen61:

Thank you very much for this article. I just finished reading the original article and I can only say I'm left without words to express how disturbing this is:

"…in a disagreement over a case last year (2010), Prosser had called Abrahamson a "total bitch" and threatened to "destroy" her." Afterwards, Prosser blames her for provoking him.

And now this: "Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice David Prosser (admittedly) grabbed fellow Justice Ann Walsh Bradley around the neck in an argument in her chambers earlier this month, according to three knowledgeable sources."

He claims she charged at him. She claims she didn't. Imagine for a moment if someone were charging at you – would you try to strangle them or just move out of the way?

Wisconsin conservatives voted for this man to be an impartial judge? This is insanity.

You're welcome, toadware. Everything you wrote here I wrote myself under the Prosser thread. It's all true. Yes, this is insanity. You can read my post under the Prosser thread.
