Lightning Medicine Cloud, a Rare White Buffalo in Greenville, Texas Brings Hope.Native Americans believe that a rare white buffalo is sacred. A ceremony was held at the Lakota Ranch in Greenville, Texas on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 to name a white buffalo born last month.       Woman and the prevalence of white buffalo. true white buffalo are rare if not extinct, most beleive the rise in white buffalo is because of the utilization to save the buffalo by introducing beef in the stock. There were only 9 pure buffalo left in the 1900's and they were bred with beef cows to save the breed. Those 9 buffalo were sent to the newly formed Wichita Wildlife Refuge and their descendants can be seen there today. not to diminish the legend but the last true white buffalo was born in 1933 apparently.
