    • It's a contest to see who can be more repressive, Xtian extremists or Islamic extremists. All the "Book Religions" put women in second class status, so in that sense Ms Batshit is telling the truth as she knows it. After all, she must have read it in her little black mythology book. She is a genuine loony; but then, re_Pigs tend to elect loonies.

    • It's true that we all think people like Bachmann, Pailin and the rest of the teabaggers are batshit crazy. Which is good for a laugh. But while we are poking fun at these indivisiuals, we don't realize how dangerous these people actually are. Their mission is to turn America into a theocracy.

Here is a link I think everyone should check out:

      http://frankschaeffer.net

Frank Schaeffer is the son of Rev. Francis Schaeffer, who together with Billy Graham, Pat Roberson, Jerry Falwell, and the likes started the Christian Coalition and it's ties with politics and the conservative movement. He admits that what he and his father helped start, is the main factor of the political problems all of us are facing today.

    • She went to law school because her husband said she could, and she said this because her campaign person said she should. This has nothing to do with god or family, it is about votes.

    • As a man and a feminist, I find her statement offensive on so many levels that I don't even have the ability to describe how offensive it is to me. Loving and embracing your partner and benefitting from their wisdom and concern is ideal in a marriage. Turning yourself into a man's chattel because "God likes it better that way." is delusional at best, and an insult to every strong, self-determinst, ethically autonomous woman on the planet. Keep going, Michele - every day, you talk yourself further and further from the big chair!

    • Shouldn't Mrs. Bachmann be making sandwiches right now? Would she be in the kitchen in the White House constantly? But all jokes aside, that woman is CRAZY. My dear sweet grandmother, who is old school Methodist by the way, thinks Bachmann is psycho.

I feel like that should say "Christian Women, Know Thy Place." The "your" doesn't really seem as catchy, and not nearly as patronizing and commanding.

Some times she can be. She's still a bit old fashioned, but with the way the current Republicans are presenting themselves, she feels disgusted. She has cripes with Democrats as well, but at least they're not hiding behind the Bible like the Republicans. Grandmom thinks that anyone that does that for the sake of getting votes is wrong.

Well, the problem is that her Bachmann's flame isn't exactly the one I want to be reading a book by, if you know what I mean. I think it's true, Bachmann is honest. She's honestly batshit crazy from my point of view, but she's honest. What you see is what you get.

Unfortunately, what I see is a woman filled with twisted, outdated values. She would never ever respect the person that I am. I'm not white, I'm not Christian, and I'm not a man. Which means that my priorities are not her priorities. She could care less about people like me.

You said: "You get the wisdom of Solomon if she read Solomon, the wisdom of Lincoln if she read Lincoln, the strength of a John F. Kennedy if she liked the ditch he and Bobby were trying to dig to the ocean to bring in some water."

But you assume that she believes and adopted those wisdoms. And I get the feeling that she would only do that if her father or brother or her husband told her it was ok.

    • I wonder if she submits to her husband's view about LGBT folks?

"We have to understand: Barbarians need to be educated. They need to be disciplined. Just because someone feels it or thinks it doesn’t mean that we are supposed to go down that road. That’s what is called the sinful nature. We have a responsibility as parents and as authority figures not to encourage such thoughts and feelings from moving into the action steps," Marcus Bachmann said.

I wonder if Mr. B ever thought that his comments on gays ever applied to himself as well? "Just because someone feels it or thinks it doesn’t mean that we are supposed to go down that road." He may not like gays or how they make him feel, but why does he (and his wife) go down that road of actively making their lives living hell? It must be their (very) sinful nature. Yes as an authority figure, Marcus, you shouldn't encourage your wife to take those thoughts and feelings into action steps. Guess the barbarians (whose political party you belong to) need to be educated.

    • I don't believe that was the true reason that she went to law school. She is bending the precepts of scripture, and attempting to fashion it for her own folly.
I truly believe that her husband supported her decision to go to law school. And, not that she had to gain his permission to go. What pretense!

    • Michele Bachman is a moron. Where did she get her law degeee? By mail? And how did she ever pass a civics or history course in college with so many mistaken ideas of points of fact? What teacher passed her? Who did she copy her test papers off of? She's more than moronic, she dangerous. There are millions of other morons out there who think she's telling them the facts, that dinosauers and man lived at the same time and the Flintstones was an actual representation of the world 7,000 years ago. How do people like this get press attention. Why do people like this deserve more than their 15 minutes of fame allocated each of us by Andy Warhol.

So, another question rises to the surface, one I've thought about being just 12 miles from Yale University in New Haven, CT. If Oral Roberts U is a school founded by a religious order, why is it tax exempt. Now, to my Yale reference; over the past hundred fifty or so years that Yale has been in existance it has bought up every piece of property in the general area it is based in. The rents they receive from their tenants are tax free because as a university, they are tax exempt. Does that sound fishy to you? who wrote this tax givaway. I bet ya some Yale school graduate who made it to congress.
As for Michele, she's going to self impload sooner than later. The tea party loves her but America hates the tea party. 2+2 still equals 4

    • So, god called Michele to run for president? Did she hear the voice coming from a burning bush, from the top of a mountain, over her car radio, an soft spoken angel sllloetted in front of a blinding light from heaven itself, in a moment of religous fervor after an hour's self flagellatio thumping her new testiment over her head, did jesus himself appear before her and command her to run for office, so many questions, one answer. The voice she heard was not from heaven but from the devil himself. For, if she ever became President, America would go to hell in a hand basket. So Michele hears voices. Let's burn her as the witch she is and forget about her completely.

    • Well women should be submissive to their husbands, and men should be submissive to their wives. Both should loving humble and caring to each other, make major decisions together. If we were all a little bit kinder and humble to each other the world would be a better place. Who am I to say though, its illegal for me to get married in my state.

That is a very nice sentiment and I agree, but I don't think you are using the word submissive in the same way that it is meant in this article. I would say that you are talking more about altruism and partnership. I think the description here of Bachmann's marriage is more like a parent-child or superior-inferior (unequal) relationship than a partnership.

That was kind of the point, I know she was saying that women should obey and submit to their husbands because that is the message of evangelical Christians, but I figured I would run with it and be a little sarcastic, it sounds better when you can hear the tone of my voice. Such is life I guess. There really is a genuine need for a sarcasm font.

    • How can she consider running for President if she insist on being submissive to anyone? Who would actually be running the Country if she became President, her or her husband? This is the problem with mixing polictics with religion, which is against the Constitution (remember "separation between church and state"). When a woman finally becomes President she will be independent and answer only to the American people. She will not need permission to speak.

My wife would not need my permission to get an education. The only issues for us would be timing and money. No where in our conversation would she need to say: "Can I...". It would likely go something along the lines of "I'd like to go to law school. What do you think?" That's the way a husband and wife should discuss matters, not as one acting as a subordinate to the other. Those days are gone forever. Over a long time ago.

I do not care what kind of marriage or relationship she wants to have but these are indications about how she views traditional authority relationships. This is not the type of person who has the leadership skills needed to be President. I do want her as a proxy for her husband.

God(dess) wants us to develop all of our talents and use them to help ourselves become better, as well as our families, communities, country and world. I'm all for egalitarian relationships where both partners develop fully who they are. Weirdly enough, I think that the Bachmann relationship is more like that than even they know.

Perhaps she wanted permission in regards to timing with kids, money, etc?

That being said, I would prefer a woman like Hilliary than Bachman as President because I want a woman with balls in the whitehouse. Not someone who is submissive to her husband -- not that there is anything wrong with that -- it's just that she shouldn't be in command.

    • Ladies, being submissive doesn't mean being weak.! I am a submissive wife. That's why I have been married over 20 years to the same man!! And this means to your husband, not the guy in the street. I run my household, as most women do, but that has nothing to do with true submission. It doesn't mean worship, weird sex, or any other not truth you may have heard of. When you get pleasure from making others, especially your partner happy, then you submit to love, understanding, joy, and yes, the most intense kind of sexual experiences you can dream of.

If you want to be submissive, that fine. Maybe being submissive is why you've been married for 20 years, but that not the case for everyone. My mother was not submissive, and she and my father got along just fine for 36 years before she passed away. My wife and I just past our 15th anniversary and should have no trouble reaching 20. We treat each other as peers and discuss family issues as such.
