Bachmann pledges to ban ‘all forms of pornography’

Image

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) became the first presidential candidate to sign a pledge created by The Family Leader, a conservative, Iowa-based Christian group that opposes same sex marriage, Sharia law and pornography.

By signing the pledge (PDF), Bachmann vowed to support a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage, as well as agreeing that same sex marriage was akin to polygamy.

The document also implies that homosexuality is a choice.

"No peer-reviewed empirical science or rational demonstration has ever definitively proven, nor has even shown an overwhelming probability that homosexual preference or behavior is irresistible as a function of genetic determination or other forms of fatalism," according to the Christian group.

With her signature, Bachmann seemed to be implicitly agreeing that black children were better off during slavery.

"Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA’s first African-American President," the document said.

"Given that families were broken up regularly for sales during slavery and that rape by masters was pretty common, this could not be more offensive," Jack & Jill Politics' Cheryl Contee noted.

As a part of the pledge, Bachmann promised to ban "all forms of pornography and prostitution, infanticide, abortion and other types of coercion or stolen innocence."

The Minnesota Republican also agreed that Sharia law is a "form of totalitarian control."

"If you are looking at being a leader of our great country... we would like to have you pledge personal fidelity to your own spouse and a respect for the marital bonds of others," The Family Leader CEO Bob Vander Plaats said Thursday.

Bachmann aide Alice Stewart told The Des Moines Register that the candidate quickly signed the pledge because "[s]he has been married for over 30 years and has a strong marriage and faith."

    • This "plege" really just shows how ignorant and ridiculous the conservatives of today are. Makes me miss teddy, yes I am fully aware he was dead by around 90 years when I was born, nevertheless I miss him.

    • What I find really amusing is that people who profess the evils of pornography seem to tend to indulge in it in secret. Grow up people. The only thing I think we need to change about pornography is that we need more pornography targeted towards women. Watching unrealistically portioned female actors with more silicone in their boobs than actual boob is not that amusing, and it does not do men or women any favors to portray sexual acts in such a bullshit, it's all about the man's pleasure, manner.

If anything, we need a politician who will make laws that state that pornography needs more realistic sex scenes so our young men will not think that women all have unnaturally gravity defying breasts and want to be treated like postage stamps.

If you EVER received real MEDICAL ATTENTION in this son of a broomstick stupid-doctor country you wouldn't be compelled to masturbate. Masturbation releases a chemical into the bloodstream that helps you heal, and the reason you need to do SELF-HEALING is because these idiot dildo-brain United States physicians don't do their damn jobs. Ship em out, ship em all to Cuba, and then fire flaming arrows into their boat and blow all their worthless do-nothing doctor hides straight to hell.

So how are they supposed to know that its porn if they never see it?

    • I actually took the time to read the pledge and I must say that I was extremely offended by several aspects of its contents. They are too numerous to name all of them but the on that I find most offensive is the now (supposedly deleted part about slavery). Being a descendent of both the slave and the slave master, I can say how my great grandfather "kept" my great grandmother in a house next to the main house and although, her children were cared for, they were never recognized. Were her children better off? That's a matter of opinion. But when you say that people that were born into slavery and families could be seperated at the discretion of the master were better off, I can't agree with that. I grew up in a two parent home as well as my children. All that being said, Michelle Bachmann can go to hell and reside there with my great grandfather.

      I mean REALLY?!?!?

What's next, is she going to make it Illegal for girls to go to college, vote, or leave the kitchen?

    • I believe that the Bible ask us to spread the good news of salvation, and let God be God. Why do I get the feeling that many people want to be God. You don't have to worry about what Bachmann sign or did not sign. Her motives are not in concert with the Bible.
Consequently, her position is not a popular one - and she will not win the white house. Don't let her actions upset you, they are not popular positions, but rather radical ones.

    • What is porn? Would you be able to know what it is when you see it? There are tons of fetishes that don't even require someone being naked. Someone might have a boot/foot fetish. Someone might be into tears and other different things. Someone could be spanking the monkey to a JC Penny's catalog for all we know.

Repression only leads to more insanity and this woman is the reigning Queen. I wonder what she would do to the more...alternative style night clubs?

    • Oh dear multi-theist God, where do we start?!?

Perhaps first and foremost, Bachmann should have actually READ the WHOLE document before signing, instead of skimming through and finding the bits about gay marriage and porn. Now I think she's a bigot, a racist, and a prude to boot.

""Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA’s first African-American President," the document said."

Yeah, things were great for black people in 1860. So great that the next year America had a civil war.

Secondly, how is she going to get rid of pornography? Unless the kill the internet, porn will still exist. Porn is a billion dollar industry, and it's damn-near recession proof. She doesn't have the funds, support, or power to even make a dent in the industry.

She's already lost. This didn't even sink her. Even her own party thinks she's unfit to run, and everyday she keeps proving it by shoving her foot ankle-deep into her own mouth.

Don't forget, she asked her husband permission in order to go get some schooling. I wonder did she ask his permission to sign that bill. And things for Blacks back during slave times were super-special-awesome! Just ask Uncle Rukus(no relation) on the Boondocks.

    • One can see the direction of this election by the GOP God's Only Party. Avoid all issues like the economy, health care, the wars, the environment, education, our roads and most of our future. A campaign to ban porn. And she will be St. Joan to lead the charge.

The following must also be added to the Iowa pledge. The earth is flat, the earth is the center of the universe, blood determines race and the earth is jsut 4000 years old.

    • And just how does Bachmann expect to enforce this ban on pornography? There's this thing called the internet, I'm on it right now. Here on the lovely interwebs, the only thing that is not in short supply... PORN! Does Michele Bachmann REALLY think she can just banish it all away with some scribbles on a piece of paper?

The idea of banning wouldn't even have ever come to debate if the great citizens of Minnesota obviously did not enjoy the freedom that is their body. Please, carry on Minnesota. Let none of this come to pass.

    • ...following quote by Bachmann...

..."Iran is the troublemaker trying to tip over apple carts all over Baghdad right now because they want America to pull out. And you know why? It’s because they’ve already decided, that they’re going to territory, they’re- they’re going to partition Iraq and half of Iraq, the western northern portion of Iraq is going to be called, the United, uh, uh, the, the uh, -oh, I’m sorry, I can’t remember the actual name of it now, but it’s going to be called, um, uh, the, the, uh, uh the Iraq State of Islam, something like that. And I-I’m sorry, I-I don’t have the official name, but it is meant to be the training ground for the terrorists. There’s already an agreement made; they’re going to get half of Iraq and that is going to be a –a terrorist free,-a terrorist safe haven zone." - February 9, 2007, interview with Larry Schumacher, St Cloud Times. It's true. We also have shit loads of sex offenders too. Repress the people by telling them no and they just want to do it more. They also restrict the sale of alcohol only to liquor stores (unless you count the watered down 3.2 % beer that they sell in grocery stores and gas stations), the liquor stores are usually packed pretty full, shoulder to shoulder, and there is usually a line of 30-50 people waiting to get their booze at my closest liquor store every Friday night until 10pm when they close.

    • What does she consider freedom of speech? One person's pornography is another's art. What two consenting adults do is nobody else's business. That being said only child pornography should be banned as they are too young to consent.

So much for smaller government and the government staying out of people's rights. What she is saying is that only those that fit her mold should have freedom. Extremist should never be allowed to run the country. They are true wack jobs that want to impose their views on the rest of us.

I remember Obama asking people to speak out and guide him with his decisions. Is he deaf in his left ear? I don't want a republican to hold any office. I have to say if progresives don't stand up and tell Obama that he is screwing up our only other choice is to tell him to keep going to the right and we will vote for you no matter what you do. Cut social security, medicare, medicaid, end the federal extension for unemployment, start more wars, we like the tax cuts you extended for the rich, we don't care what you do to us we love you man. I am sorry but if we don't speak truth to power them we are the failures, not him. Yea Obama is a better choice then any republican or all of them together but does that mean we should kiss his ass when he is busy kicking us in the stomach?

    • (I'll skip the cheap jokes that porn might actually turn her husband straight)
It goes back to the Oliver Wendell Holmes definition of obscene material: "I don't know what it is, but I can tell you when I see it."
With various fetishes, fantasies and the idea that a healthy person is attractive, you can't truly stop every form of erotic stimulation in everybody. As Toby Zeigler said in the pilot of "The West Wing." Show a teenage boy a lug wrench and he'll think of sex. A woman in a certain role, outfit or attitude might be seen as erotic by some, but not everyone. (see "Blue Steel" with Jamie Lee Curtis and Ron SIlver) Is the on-screen kiss between Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh porn? Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr? Okay, Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone might qualify with nudity, but "Sex in the City" kept clothes on during coitus. I'd love to see the auction to see who sponsors the cover-up of Venus de Milo.
Simply put, a ban on privately-owned porn would be a bigger and more unenforceable disaster than the "war on drugs" and Prohibition combined.

We don’t need a female evangelical preacher for president that will do Anything that her church tells her to do but I Do hope she gets the nomination because it will drive Many moderate Republicans away and I don’t see her being able to get even 25% of the American vote.

Let's see, how many years has prostitution been around? Has anyone ever tried to ban it before? I always wondered why it was against the law to sell something that can legally be given away free.

    • I read the whole document that they are asking candidates to sign. It is a continuation of the belief that God's law (as they define him) trumps Man's law. The locus of behavioral control is external rather the internal, so they need people to agree to all of these rules and have the church enforce them. It is based on the Old Testament, not the New Testament. It is paternalistic and very controlling and is at odds with the secular law. Hence the need to change secular law.
