Forget the politics for a bit, and come together and Support the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team as they face Japan today in the World Cup Finals in Germany!!!!
On ESPN 2:45 Eastern also available online on ESPN3. So little has been paid attention to this event, which to me is sad. Whether you like soccer or not it really has no bearing on if you should watch or not. This event is featuring the most spectacular women athletes from around the world, and our U.S. team is here on step away from winning the World Cup. We show support for our troops and today our troops stationed in Germany will have their eyes glued to the T.V. or will be in the stadium showing their support, so lets all join in and support this team in their quest for the top spot in the World!!!!!

    • Was there a woman's soccer tournament? Oh darn! I missed it! Women's and soccer equals a big snooze. I say this even though my daughter was a college athlete and my son was a college soccer prospect. Fortunately he choose a different sport to play in college. Even my daughter won't watch women's sports now that she's not playing. One time I was channel surfing. The soccer announcer was talking about one team's insurmountable 1-0 lead.

Unless the sport is artistic like gymnastics or ice skating women can't perform at the level men compete. Back when the women's team won the gold in the Olympics Mia Hamm was asked if she would consider playing in the MLS. First she laughed. Then she explained she wasn't capable of competing with men in the MLS. She continued to explain the women's gold medal winning team in their preparation for the Olympics, would schedule boys U19 state champion travel soccer teams and couldn't beat them.

I'll translate: The best adult women's team in the world couldn't beat eighteen year old/high school boy's teams from any given state.

I'm not talking about men's Vs. women's here. Just because maybe pitted against the opposite sex they wouldn't do as well isn't the point. The woman play with the same tenacity and skill against their opponent which is a women's team and whether they would beat a men's team isn't the point . Women's sport can produce just as much excitement as a men's game can

Because the men are bigger, faster and stronger the game is played at a much higher level than women's sports. Women don't play at the same level of tenacity since some of the contact allowed in men's sports is not allowed in women's sports. This was my point.

It was exciting to watch my daughter compete in volleyball, track and softball. It's because she was my daugher. I coached girl's basketball and softball. But now that she's done I prefer to watch men compete in sports. Even she prefers to watch men compete because they're better athletes. Even though she was a college athlete she understands the physical limitations of female athletes.

Women's sports are great for girls. It provides positive role models. Sports for girls provides opportunities to keep them physically active and away from negative possibilities. Sports even paid for part of my daughter's college. But I would still rather watch men's sports.

    • This is so funny, i have a friend that will write anyone a 10 page Essay on How Americans are "Soccer Hipsters" and how Woman's Soccer is completely pointless, i figured i'd stroll into this Discussion and see a couple of these people but i guess not.

With me Soccer is Football, Americans are just far behind on it in general. Our U.S. Women's Team is Top notch and really needs more credit then the get here in the states. The may have lost to Japan, but in the finals it's the two teams that have proven themselves to be the best and Japan edged out the U.S. It's sad though that the Women don't get nearly the funds or publicity that then men get (Which still doesn't compare to other countries) but the Women's side has won the World Cup twice and are ranked #1 in the world, Our U.S. Men's National team as much as I love them are not nearly the presence world wide. Football (Soccer) is the World sport. I love watching any age group, men's or women's. I would so love the U.S. National teams to put on a charity game either Men Vs. Women, or a coed National team Vs. Whichever country would do the same. Just a friendly for charity and a publicity stunt mostly, I for one would pay to see.

    • I'm happy to see Japan win this one. With everything going on in their nation, they need their happy moments like these, and they certainly fought well to get it. So my hat goes off to them!

They played a good game, as well as through the tournament. They have come far as a team and through some tough times, so I do congratulate them, but I still wanted the U.S. to win. Still this gives some good publicity here in the U.S. about soccer as a whole, as well as women's sports in general. In the U.S. soccer by far isn't the number one sport of choice as it is in Many other countries. Soccer by far is the Worlds Sport

Yes but if I say Football game today, people jump to NFL. I prefer hand egg, and Football (Soccer). Even after all these years still baffles why we would call a game football that doesn't focus on kicking a ball which isn't even a ball it's egged shaped, balls are round lol. Only in America

    • Remember Pearl Harbor. Oh, did I say that out loud. All in good fun, lessons learned and quickly forgotten. I don't do negative votes anymore, so you all will have to make up for it. Gotta go out and get me some of those Made in Vietnam planters I saw at Costco. Can't wait to buy some Made in Iran Burkas as soon as they arrive.
