Don't hate all police just for the actions of a few. The vast majority of policeman I have known are dedicated to upholding the law and keeping you safe. My son-in-law is a sheriff's deputy and you could not ask for a more honest man.

If you don't like the laws that are enforced you should complain to the legislative bodies that enacted those laws and not the policemen who are doing their sworn duty by enforcing them.

It's not like the police killed Mother Teresa, According to the SF Examiner the 19 year old is a parolee from another state and fired first at the pursuing police who returned fire. The little thug could have killed an innocent person in the area if he had not been stopped.

If you're going to dance to the tune sometimes you end up having to pay the piper.

Your completely right, and i don't believe that all Police Officers are bad just the Pigs, I've met quite a few that show that just because they gained a badge they didn't lose their brain.

    • Everyone should bear in mind a couple of things: We don't know the full story on this case, and the reason we have seen this posted is because it is unusual. I know the line about lies, damn lies, and statistics, but in truth, the thing to watch is trending. Is there more police brutality or less? A single incident is just not an indicator. I abhor the use of unnecessary force, but I am also aware that in such high stress situations, poor judgement is not unusual. Remember that video of one guy who chased another guy around the front of a courthouse while taking shot after shot with a pistol? He wasn't that bad a shot, he had lost all his motor skills. Police take training so they can keep a cool head in a tense situation, but it doesn't always work. There are some admittedly who are power crazy assholes. We just really don't know yet about this case.

    • You thought they might have learned something with the Rodney King fiasco ( all cops)...they didn't !
What is it going to take ? Media has the ability to scare the living s**t out of ignorant people and these same ignorants vote for turning law enforcement into a military , no rules of engagement , guilty till proven innocent , shoot and ask questions later , regime.
Lawful citizen don't want anything to do with these violent predators...who knows when you'll be the one pulled over for a traffic violation and be accosted by a lunatic on steroids, a 9mm and a badge.
It would appear the Country is in a war with it's citizens....there will be no choosing sides...you are the citizen!

    • The witnesses that supposedly saw the suspect shooting at the cops , denies this....so .. what about the throw down weapon...where are those witnesses who 'supposedly' saw the pedestrian pick up the suspects 'supposed' weapon ?

Where are these witnesses and video's that prove what they are saying???
Without any of this "proof" I'd say the deserve to be arrested and prosecuted for murder, 1st degree,,,,Any lapse in time about showing these supposed video clips to clear themselves only gives them time to Doctor up something ...the excuse of , " hampering the investigation" will be pure bulls**t ...

The attorney General in Maine has never found in favor of the victim in a cop shooting...even though one guy was wheel chair bound with a steak knife!!
They lie through their teeth so often now it's becoming epidemic .

    • This is just another attempted coverup by the San Francisco Police Department, and the police in this shooting should be charged with murder..The entire story sounds phony!

Don't know if you saw this yet, but it's the interview with an officer following this incident. Police say they opened fire after the suspect attempted to shoot in their direction. This officer states that there is video showing someone pick up the suspect's gun after he was shot and run off but that it's since been recovered.

I'm not claiming to know for sure what exactly transpired, but perhaps this wasn't just an innocent black man gunned down by police for $1.50.

I didn't say it was impossible for cops to lie, nor did I say they weren't doing so here. I simply don't know, and for that matter, neither do you. I merely pasted their response. It may or may not be accurate, which is why I said, "I'm not claiming to know for sure what exactly transpired, but perhaps this wasn't just an innocent black man gunned down by police for $1.50." The word "perhaps" implies that the possibility exists that this isn't some part of a police cover-up. I believe that possibility exists. I don't know whether I believe it to be true.

It bothers me when uninformed people jump to conclusions and start throwing around accusations and name-calling. If you notice, I didn't do that (and apart from actual eye-witnesses and the police involved, we're all uninformed on this tragic incident). I didn't say anything bad about the victim or the police because I don't know which of them was in the wrong.

If this guy was killed over an unpaid fare, then that's obviously wrong and the officers should be at the very least reprimanded or possibly see trial (depending on the circumstances, ie was there a gun, etc). But, if this guy had a gun and was firing it at cops and thus also into a crowded area where he could have killed or injured innocent civilians, then I would support the police actions 100% (notice I said IF...and that's a big IF). I would hope the police aimed to injure and not kill, but their first priority has to be to protect people and themselves. By the way, that second scenario is the one the officer presents in the video I linked.

i don't know if you noticed, but in my earlier post I left open the possibility that there could be more to the story. These quick posts to the web are often misleading. It used to be that each news story had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Each segment was researched and verified to the extent possible by experienced journalists. This could be a story of police going nuts, or it could be a story of a dangerous man being stopped. Unfortunately, the story may become a circus full of pundits telling us worthless stuff, and we may end up never knowing the truth if the media lose interest. I also don't believe that cops always lie, and we all know that no one is perfect, not even cops.

    • Thank god they got this menace off the streets. Actually, I hope this was an anomalous, freak accident, or that we don't know the full story. I hope that a serious investigation is done, and proper punishments are doled out. When a corporate exec steals millions or billions, we can't seem to get a warrant, but when someone rides for free, we impose the death sentence. Maybe if he had also stolen a loaf of bread to feed his family, this would seem more justified. My sympathy goes out to his family no matter what the circumstances. Sorry about the disjointed writing, but this sort of thing scares me.
