A government health committee Friday recommended not changing the ban on gay men donating blood but also called for new research on alternative policies, citing flaws in the current rules.
Gay men have been prohibited from giving blood since 1985. But momentum to change the ban has grown recently, with advocacy groups, blood-collection organizations and members of Congress calling for the Food and Drug Administration to revise the donation rules.

Well that is just bogus, what research needs to be done? The majority of HIV and AIDS suffers these days are straight. Not to mention that all blood donated goes through a rigorous testing process. This is just ridiculous discrimination, but whatever if my blood is not good enough to save lives then let them die, what does it matter to me, I will live on. I just feel bad for the poor little kid who desperately needs blood that he now cannot have because of the bigotry and ignorance of others.
