Death For Profit

Roberto Martinez-Medina died in CCA's Stewart Detention Center in Georgia in 2009. Medina had been arrested a month earlier for not having a driver's license.

CCA whistleblower Brian Holcomb spoke with us exclusively to expose how the company repeatedly ignored Medina's pleas for care of his heart ailment while he was imprisoned. Their negligence contributed to Medina's death.

CCA profited off of Medina's incarceration, and ensured a greater profit by denying him critical health care. The inhumane conditions at CCA facilities are directly related to their obsession in cutting costs for profit.

CCA has gone to great lengths to hush Medina's death.

tell that to your Congressional representatives, and your state representatives. Most prisons are run by the state, and the state you live in has the right to decide No, we will not participate in prisons for profit. Make sure you know the position of the people you vote for on this very important issue, and then follow their voting record and make sure they do as they say, and if they don't, get rid of them.

    • When we can make the owners of such places/corporations feel threatened for their lives maybe this will force a change because they are never going to have a conscience and do it on their own!
In a right world there would have been a investigation and someone would be going to jail for murder, but we know this is never going to happen regardless how much we complain about it
These corporate elite need to understand....you will no longer be safe if you keep on killing us for a profit. THEY need to feel threatened ....not us!

    • This happens in every privately owned prison and jail in this nation. People with no family, and especially immigrants, are left without vital medical care or simply never granted either a lawyer or a trial. It is true, and it has become all too commonplace. If you write to your Senator or your Governor, they refer you back to the people who are supposed to be monitoring the jails and prison systems, but when they are privately owned and operated for profit, there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY! They lie about what is really going on inside, and are given a heads-up before any inspections occur.

It is true, the prisoners end up trying to care for the sick, but I know personally of another case identical to this where the man had heart disease and all the privately owned jail gave him was Tylenol. As he slowly died, and could no longer even feed himself, it was the other inmates who cared for him, who tried to feed him, in his final hours, and the hospital was only 10 minutes away, but he was NEVER taken there. He was one more of so many needless deaths across this nation because we are drunk on profits and our government is too greedy and callous to care about the deaths of the weak and powerless.

A plague upon ALL their houses!

Great post incredulous... Thought provoking to say the least. In Florida, we hear of many attrocities in both private and state ran jails all the time. It sickens me to the core.
