Binkies for Boehner

On posts last night, some of us decided to send John Boehner binkies with tea bag tags tied to them. I plan to include a frostily polite, but scathing letter.

      Text of enclosed note:

      Mr. Boehner,

      You voted for the giant tax cuts for the wealthy (unfathomably extended), *two* nondefensive wars that are *still* ongoing after a decade, the drug program with no funding mechanism, and now you are pushing to eliminate the deficit immediately on the backs of Americans who have been most devestated by these policies? You say "Washington" must be stopped from spending as it it's a caged beast? *You*, sir, are Washington. That you would pretend to be criticizing from the outside is disingenuous. That you'd play chicken with the economy with masses unemployed, homeless and stripped of their tiny nest eggs, and would cut the social safety nets that are the only material difference between our situation and the Great Depression is inhuman.

      Shame on you.

      P.S. I know that they were both depicted as defensive wars, and that at least in the case of Afghanistan there were no imaginary threats hyped to justify the invasion, but being attacked by a group of criminals is a very different thing, morally and under international law than being attacked by a sovereign nation. Personally, I think declaring "war" on a group of criminals gives them a dignity they do not deserve.

      I just saw that.

      As a woman & appalled at what the rethugs are doing to reproductive rights - right now, the budget is somewhat more urgent. Reproductive rights & responsibility (like admitting it's possible for a woman, man, family or species to have too many young to sustainably support) demands a sustained campaign.

      Binkies for Boehner is about calling attention to the severe crisis they seem to pretend doesn't exist.

      To me, it's like "Oh, gee, I have an appointment for my pap smear, but shit, the house is on fire." I think I'd stay home & try to rescue the cat.
