You know, it is really ironic they should come down on me like this right after I called out a really stupid post about "nigga" and "igga" complete with illustrations and it was immediately removed. I said it was a "piece of shit post".
It was. It had been up in the top four for many days. I dunno. I just dunno. I didn't say it should be censored, I just said it was a piece of shit.

I've worked with lawyers from the CCR on local issues and I'm surprised by the tone of the piece. I would think they would be doing more than just warning folks, in effect scaring folks off. I'm going to email them with direct questions - Is the CCR telling the American people NOT to protest? Will the CCR defend the right to protest?

I have said this in the past. One morning, instead of going to work, drive to the nearest busy intersection. Turn off your car, get out, lock the doors and then leave. If we all did that on one day, it would fuck traffic up so bad that none of the fascist pigs would be able to operate.
Pick the day.

Way Awesome Idea ns! And we should do it in W.D.C. 10 blocks deep around the White House and The Capitol building. Maybe have a sponsor buy dozens of ready to junk autos and crash them into one another, creating big pile ups that must all have police reports made on and bring that square mile to a standstill as well, right at morning traffic hour. Let's start figuring out which are the most heavily trafficked highway crossroads near the most traffic dependent, and important locations in the country. Everyone's invited to participate!

I absolutely agree with you in spirit, but to do this practically I think that it's a bad idea, if for just one simple reason. The entire idea behind a movement, is to do that which benefits the people and thereby gains popular support, a snowball effect, one of the major problems that I envision with your suggestion, is that undoubtedly, if traffic was choked up this bad, many people who were either on their way to, or desperately needed to get to a hospital-someone having a stroke, heart attack, you name it-would not be able to do so, and if anybody died (and the more that died the worse it would be) as a consequence of this action, many people-if not the majority-would be very angry at those who suggested it if not the movement itself, like I said, I certainly appreciate the sentiment, but this particular application sounds like a bad idea, thoughts?

As the Pentagon recently announced, it is prepared to send 20,000 troops to assist in combating civil unrest. Blackwater is an army for sale. Local police are being militarized with weapons and tanks. Cameras have been installed everywhere, worldwide. The Patriot Act has decreased civil rights against surveillance and privacy. Is the writing on the wall my friend? I believe it is. But we must not falter. We must stand against oppression. We must do this here and now, however possible. Civil Disobedience is not War though it may play out like one. We are Americans, damnit! We need to act like it. We must be heroic and fearless.

I understand the point of this post but let's be honest protest don't do shit! I'll use my own state of Wisconsin as example. One hundred thousand people were protesting (I was one of them) outside the state capital building because of the union stripping bill and it passed and was signed by our governor anyway. Fuck protesting, fuck town halls, fuck contacting your congressmen or senator. We have to hit them where they hit us and that is in their pockets. Stop buying their products, stop putting your money in their banks, turn off the tv and stop watching their damn commercials. How much would things change if we boycotted all the companies who paid no taxes last year? If we walked and carpooled and *gasp* took a fucking bus to work instead of filling up your gas guzzler at the gas station every week? Americans need to wake up!

We can think that our efforts sometimes fall of deaf ears but sometimes we actually get through. When Wall Street was being called out (after years of abusing the middle class) and their homes were picketed, somhow then we were going too far. Picket in a poor or middle class neighborhood and no one would react. There is always a "protect the rich" neighborhood mentality that is subconscious for some and overt for others.
I thought it was great! Just like putting names and addresses of "Johns" and other sex offenders is fair game, so is indentifying those who stole bazillions from pensions, 401ks and other meager investments of the middle class. They should be in line ups and their mugshots should be on milk cartons.

That would be absolutely great. If only we could organize enough people, if only for few days, to do just what you suggest. Could you imagine if 85 million people didn't buy gas for a week. Or 100 million didn't shop at a certain store for just a day. But how would you get the message out? You can bet your ass the main stream media would not even hint that there was such a thing occurring. But we can dream can't we?

Don't say that your protest did no good. It showed a problem to the entire Country, the people of Wisconsin are correcting their problem. What your Governor did was wrong, by protesting it, showed the entire US that WE all have a problem. THANKS for protesting.

You are 10,000 % right on! I also urge boycotting every well know label product made by large corporations. We should all buy local and from smaller manufacturers only. Your idea about car pooling and mass transit is a brilliant way to deprive Big Oil of revenue! Let's keep promoting this and turn it into a major movement. Our work is having an effect as evidenced by the warm and fuzzy ads Big Oil and Natural Gas are being compelled to air so often. We have them on the run, and now we need to take them down. Carry on Comrade!

the only way we're going to beat corporations (who own the Republican Party)
is to vote democrat
once the reepers are cleared out
a new party can emerge to challenge the democrats before they go to rat pooh from too much power... - 10 months ago

Please...the democrats are simply sucking off a different corporate tit than the republicans. I spent 3 hours yesterday looking at the campaign contributions for the richest 50 Congressmen and half are democrats ...voting does nothing at this level...look at the facts they are very easy to find.

good
since you look at each congressman
spend 3 hours and look at what they vote onand
what you missed in your 3 hours research:the republican party is controlled by Grover Norquist
(agent of corporate interests)he holds the purse strings to republican reelection
he has the whole party in fear and in line
that's why they're in lock-step, his step
he has no power over the democratsthere's a whole lot more than campaign contributions goin on...

I sure as hell hope that no one tries to do that in the U.S. Our rights don't end with the First Amendment. And Jefferson advocated a revolution in every generation. Some of our politicians may believe they can do this legally, but they can't. And if they try to do this on a whim, that whim might just lead to a further disposition of such a case in the court of public opinion and the politicians may find such to be most painful in its execution.

The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today is an 1873 novel by Mark Twain and Charles Dudley Warner that satirizes greed and political corruption in post-Civil War America. The term gilded age, commonly given to the era, comes from the title of this book.
