During a routine search, officers found a 6.4-hectare field in which the plant was growing. In total, they destroyed 400 tons of wild hemp.
Experts say it was enough to produce dozens of tons of marijuana.
The anti-drugs squad believes there may be more wild hemp in the area and will continue its search until autumn.
The aim of the operation is to combat drug production. Sorry Mother Earth, even you are not above the law.

It's sad to see that the Anslinger disaster has seeped into Russa. Industrial hemp is a resource that is renewable and should be utilized, instead of cutting down trees.

My dad said he could remember when the stuff grew wild along the railroad tracks where he grew up. If it is hemp we ought to manufacture clothes, paper and whatever else could be made from this. It would be better than cutting down trees for Charmin. What a waste.
