Just for Sh*tz 'nd Giggles
1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when
they are out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All
funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security
system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system
and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for
any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans
do.
4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay
will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the
same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American
people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective
1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.
Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is
an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators,
so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.
If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take
three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is
time.
THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!!!!!
If you agree with the above, pass it on. If not, just delete.
You are one of my 20+. Please keep it going.

Yeahhh, except most of the stuff in this article is copypasta from a chain email that was going around earlier this year, and isn't true.

Nah... I like mine better... you tie their pay in with the budget. If there's a budget surplus that year, they get a raise based on the percentage of that surplus. If there's a deficit that year, they'll get a pay CUT based on the percentage of that deficit. They'll either find a way to get that surplus or in a few years they'll end up working FOR FREE!
I love that fantasy salary plan.... don't you? Leaves it entirely in their hands.

All excellent suggestions, Congress should live by the laws they create and no extra benefits. I would like to see this passed, but I fear they already have too much power to give it up peacefully.

Congress members should not be able to accept "campaign contributions" or anything of value from lobbyist ever.
Lobbyist should by law be limited to stating their points in the the same manner as any American citizen. If the points are valid they should be taken under consideration. If they are detrimental to society, they must be banned from any future lobbying activities.
My only addition. ;)

Excellent suggestions for a pledge. If most congressmen would agree to this rather than Norquist's pledge the country would be on solid ground again. I say pass this on and hopefully it will gain steam to at least awake Americans up to why congress cares less about you then themselves. Many voters are not even aware of all the perks congress has voted themselves over the years. The GOP complains about Unions, but at least Unions have to negotiate with management. In congress they don't have to negotiate with anyone but themselves. They are all a bunch of hypocrites.

Congressional pay raises and benefits should have to be approved as a proposition during federal elections and be decided on directly by the PEOPLE. The PEOPLE will decide, not only if members should be returned to Congress, but also if they deserve the pay and benefits they have been getting.

Also make all trading(insider) in stocks and the market 90% taxable
also all political campaign donations over $10,000 should be reported and taxed at the least 90% - 10 months ago

taxing a political donation at 90% is ridiculous. that just encourages lobbyists to give MORE $ to the government. Donations go to politicians, taxes go to the Fed. It's all part of the same evil machine.

Can I Just ask IF the founding fathers envisioned citizen legislators why then did most of them go on to pursue careers in the government? I wish people would read a history book before they go on a founding fathers or revolutionist tirade

This is just too right. How they can get away with it and not have their constiuents bothered it is so sad. So many get elected over and over because they have slick ads and trounced their opponents and challengers with unearned funds.
We have a Supreme Court that has been bought and paid for and NO one is doing anything about it. Why are we not impeaching Thomas and Scalia (just the icing); we clearly have grounds.
Why? Why? WHY?

This will all happen" when Easter comes in May". My Grandfather was a smart man and his statement holds so true.
People can't vote for the laws like they can do in each individual states because if it could happen that way we would be living in a different country. and to be honest with you I don't think you could get people to vote for their own good. Just look at the 2010 elections.
So don't expect congress to to it as that will never happen. But it's a grand idea that I supported for a long time. - 10 months ago

This revolving door in D.C. is a big problem, for a couple of hundreds of thousands a corporation can bribe a congressman onto their payroll and get billions back on their investment. Why aren't there laws against this?
