...although I do apologize to Saladin for my blatant idiocy. I'm sure all the SMART people prefer default to dealing with the GOP. And I admit that I was stupid enough to vote for progressives in 2010 rather than staying home with the SMART people who were pissed at Obama for compromising then. You guys really SHOWED him, all right, saddling him with a teabagger congress. When we're swearing in President Bachmann, he'll KNOW he can't take YOU for granted!

ParkyBill:
I went out and voted in 2010, as I will in 2012 and every other election. And you're a tool if you think the only alternative to this deal was default.
This President willingly forfeits our agenda, the "grand chess player" talking point is no longer valid. He does not even attempt to fight, he practically gave away the deal.
Maybe the glamour of politics appeals more to you than the substance, but not me. I expected results, and I have not seen them. The excuse of obstructionism only goes so far. Whenever it's been the President or the Democratic Congress's turn to hold their ground, they *start* with the compromise and then get beaten back from there.
You want to defend a Democrat less liberal than Bill Clinton? Be my guest.
The rest of us care more about the principles than the candidate.

Engage in hyperbole all you want, you're just validating what I said about being attracted to the glamour. As for me, I'm done playing good cop, bad cop. I've learned that lesson now.
After the fog of his early years has cleared, it's become rather obvious that Obama is center-right on economic issues, barely left-leaning on social issues, and nearly identical to Bush in terms of foreign policy.
I'll vote for Obama again if he remembers who his base is, otherwise I'm going to vote for someone who actually knows what the fuck they're doing.
A primary challenger would do him a lot of good at this point.

Did Jimmy Carter a lot of good, too.

ParkyBill:
Jimmy Carter screwed himself and was in no position to oppose the Reagan right's backlash.
That being said, I'd prefer Carter to Obama. At least I know what he believed in and he strove to accomplish it.
Even if Obama wins another term, what fucking good will that do anyone? Will you be happy with another 4 years of tepid, center-right rule just to hope, once again, that the right won't take over in 2014 or 2016?
It's going to be Clinton to Bush all over again.
If the left doesn't grow some balls, the right-wing is going to become the center and the only Dems left will be blue dogs.

What the left needs to do is go back to its classical roots and Kick these progressives out that took over the democratic party. There are two different types of liberal and i think you can clearly see it when jon stewart and ed schultz had their two rallies. Ed schultz one nation rally which had mostly unions attending and even the communist party usa, was the progressive liberals. Jon Stewarts rally was more grassroots in my opinion classical liberals like yourself. I really dont think youre a progressive.

If this were Europe, you could call me a Social Democrat. I don't know that I'm a "classic liberal" unless you mean that in an American sense. But whatever, It's just a label. The same way conservative and liberal are labels. I really don't care what people call me.
I'm an FDR, JFK, LBJ Democrat, that's the shit I believe in. A decent society in which the private market takes care of most things and the government fills in the cracks.
Now, you bear in mind that's no bullshit position, that's a radical position. FDR and LBJ in particular were strong leaders and didn't take shit from anyone, least of all from this Wall Street Corporate Cabal.
Nowadays you can barely find anyone with the balls to call out these criminals for what they are. Everyone is too afraid they'll "upset the market."

This was not a compromise, it was an out-and-out concession to the Republican party, one that achieved ZERO Democratic objectives and was utterly unnecessary.
This writer is an idiot and his sarcasm is unwarranted and stupid.
Voted down.
