Koch-Funded Americans for Prosperity Sends Dems Wrong Voter Info in WI Recall Elections

Image

Americans for Prosperity is sending absentee ballots to Democrats in at least two Wisconsin state Senate recall districts with instructions to return the paperwork after the election date.

The fliers, obtained by POLITICO, ask solidly Democratic voters to return ballots for the Aug. 9 election to the city clerk "before Aug. 11."

A Democrat on the ground in Wisconsin said the fliers were discovered to be hitting doors in District 2 and District 10 over the weekend.

"These are people who are our 1's in the voterfile who we already knew. They ain't AFP members, that's for damn sure," the source said.

One flier was discovered in Hudson, Wisc. where Democrat Shelly Moore is attempting to upend GOP State Sen. Sheila Harsdorf in District 10; the other was found in Kaukauna, where Democrat Nancy Nusbaum is challenging Sen. Robert Cowles in District 2.

"If they're targeting for Aug. 16, they're hundreds and hundreds of miles off," said the Democratic activist who has been on the ground in Madison for months. "This has nothing to do with either Democratic incumbent up on August 16th."

The absentee trickery comes just as AFP has purchased $150,000 in ad time in Green Bay, Milwaukee and Madison to boost GOP candidates.

Correction: An earlier version of this post misreported that a flier was found in Milwaukee. It was actually discovered in Kaukauna.

    • Dirty pool is nothing new for these slimeballs. Be aware..these forces are actively seeking to deny your vote...and certainly attempting to undermine the peoples voice.

    • This is nothing new. Republicans have been getting away with this type of voter fraud in predominately Black neighborhoods for decades..They use tactics like, moving polling places on the day of the election, distributed flyers with misleading information. Bush 1 and 2 , and Texas politicians are famous for voter fraud/suppression/intimidation.

    • I didn't think of it before, but a really good question to ask is why AFP were sending out absentee ballots in the first place? Shouldn't that be in the hands of the state to keep this kind of abuse out of the process in the first place?

    • Silence from the right.. hm, I guess voter fraud is IOKIYAR. They only get upset over fake "voter fraud" like ACORN. They practicality lost their little bitty minds over non existent fraud but remain willfully ignorant when actual fraud is committed by their party.

This was not a typo. It was deliberate, it's typical republican tactics. Win at all cost, even if ya gotta cheat.

    • If these flyers can be indisputably traced back to Koch funding, isn't this election tampering, and isn't this against Federal Law? Why hasn't the DNC hauled the Koch boys' asses into court? No better way to put it to them than to win a settlement and then use it to fund a ball-busting Liberal candidate like Alan Grayson in FL.

    • I like it, it smells of a democratic victory. I hope it teaches voters to read these fucking mailings or recycle them and not read them, I choose the latter. If you are a voter and don't know where your polling station is and what day you vote, then you are going to plug the system on voting day and waste everyones time. Democracy takes some effort on the voters part.It really sucks for the old and the poor, I don't understand why anyone would have the conscience to pray on them. I guess that is why ethics and civics are no longer mandatory teachings.

    • bailey78:

Look on the bright side, bailey78, if the DNC does summon up the cojones to take the Brothers Koch to court and, by some miracle, actually wins the case, they can always run ads supporting Liberal candidates, "brought to you by the generosity of Koch Industries".
I'd approve of those in a New York minute!

    • "The really dangerous American fascist... is the man who wants to do in the United States in an American way what Hitler did in Germany in a Prussian way. The American fascist would prefer not to use violence. His method is to poison the channels of public information. With a fascist the problem is never how best to present the truth to the public but how best to use the news to deceive the public into giving the fascist and his group more money or more power... They claim to be super-patriots, but they would destroy every liberty guaranteed by the Constitution. They demand free enterprise, but are the spokesmen for monopoly and vested interest. Their final objective, toward which all their deceit is directed, is to capture political power so that, using the power of the state and the power of the market simultaneously, they may keep the common man in eternal subjection.

Who ever tried to have that comment removed should be deeply ashamed of themselves. You fuckers can't stand a fair fight, can you? That's why you won't make yourselves known: you know you couldn't possibly stand a chance any other way. Like terrorists, you prefer to make threats from behind the relative safety of your human shields (or avatars), attack when our backs are turned or from a safe distance.
You can pretend you aren't sullying yourself, but you're only fooling yourselves.
I guess we should be grateful that at least in person, your smell will give you away.

    • I've heard my friends call the Republicans, and some times Democrats, whores for what they've been doing in my state(WI). I always think, "Well if they're whores, then they're doing in awful job satisfying me. I pay for a good time and some times they just take the money and run or they just tease me with promises of a wonderful experience. I want my money back."

I've been telling all of my friends, namely college friends this: Get a proper ID, keep paying attention to the true dates of the voting days. Tell your parents or grandparents to get the proper ID. Keep yourself up to date about what's going on in our state. Don't give the opposition any reason to not get you to vote, you should vote.

Thanks for the support and news updates guys.

    • Didn't we read about/hear about Americans For Prosperity doing this same thing in previous elections? Or am I remembering incorrectly?

I think we should call them "Americans For Hypocrisy." It is a more accurate name.

I wonder if the Koch Bros will be pulled into the ongoing Murdoch / News Corp scandal. What committees are they on together? (Besides Congress)

A good investigative reporter could have a field day with this!

    • First, the Koch Suckers burn down the One Wisconsin PAC Headquarters and now this? This is blatent election fraud. How do they get away this? It's called Republican AG J.B. Van Hollen who wouldn't dare prosecute this but he goes after non-existent voter fraud. What a joke. Don't blame WI voters if the results are fixed on August 9th because it will NOT have anything to do with voter turnout. I posted this next paragraph yesterday regarding the August 9th recall elections:

The Koch money is flowing here. We just had the fire of the PAC HQ in La Crosse and the deal with the ballots. All I know is that the citizens of WI are awake and on Tuesday, August 9th when they vote, ( I won't be voting in the recalls because my district isn't involved) they should make sure to bring cameras, watch what's going on at the polls, have plenty of volunteers on hand and if someone tries to stop them from voting, report it immediately! These Koch/Rep thugs know the people will be out in force to vote that day and will do anything to ruin it. I hope my state can stay strong and make sure these recall elections work!

Wis. Dems cry foul over recall ballot mailing
By SCOTT BAUER , 08.02.11, 04:46 PM EDT

MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Democratic Party is calling for an investigation into whether a conservative group tried to suppress turnout in next week's state senate recall elections by misinforming voters about the deadline for absentee ballots.

State Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate on Tuesday asked U.S. Attorney James Santelle to investigate an Americans for Prosperity mailing that erroneously stated that absentee ballots received before Aug. 11 for an Aug. 9 election would count. Only ballots received by Aug. 9 will count.

Americans for Prosperity state director Matt Seaholm blames the error on a typo and says complaints over the mailing are frivolous.

This is the ONLY election fraud that happens on any scale in this country. There are not millions of votes that are fraudulent, but the RIPublicans and their backers do everything they can to influence elections on grand scales. If not sending out misinformation to Democrats so that their votes won't count, it changing the laws to access their rights to votes, to out right tampering with the voting machines themselves. RIPublicans are more concerned with power then they are with democracy. Had it not been for vote tampering on their part, GWB would never been elected either time, and nor would the RIPublicans have held Congress for those 6 years.

It is time for the Democrats to STOP playing nice. They need to press this case until someone goes to jail. The Democratic Party needs to get tough at the local level before the national party will do anything. Terry McAuliffe has caused more long term damage to the Democratic Party than any RIPublican has, by making the party so dependent of corporate financial support.

The Dems need to wage an all out war on changing the laws that the RIPublicans have passed that have restricted the rights of Americans to exercising their Constitutional right:

Americans have the right to vote without meeting a means test.
Americans have the right to form unions, without hinderance from corporations, and to collectively bargain.
Americans have the right to clean water, clean air, and uncontaminated soil. It is the government s job to ensure that fror the people.
Americans have the right healthcare, and when corporations make it so that it becomes unaffordable, the government has the Constitutional responsibility to provide it.

The RIPublicans and their Tea Party allies are not democratic. They are tyrannical, not just against the American people, but against themselves. If someone does not toe their party line, they are threatened with removal from office. Their party is right in all things and no deviation is permitted. These people are no different then the Leninist philosophy that there should be one party, and that party is the only way to force their economic philosophy on the people. It is just that the RIPublicans and the Tea Party are extreme capitalists rather than Marxists.

    • Can't some judge just declare that any absentee ballots received on or before the 11th will still be honored? That would take the wind right out of the sails of their little hokey scheme.

    • This an absurdity. Why do Democrats allow Republicans to get away with voter fraud on this level? Every Democrat, and his mama should be out protesting, and doing whatever is necessary to bring attention to this injustice. Where is Scott Walker on this issue? He is pretending to be anti-voter fraud, however he remains silent on what is obvious voter fraud.

What we might consider is petitioning MoveOn.Org; (who are searching for causes and actions which will gain citizen support), to organize protests in front of grocery stores and department stores urging the boycott of products produced by the criminal and anti social manufacturers.
