Making political hay off of the troops is equally base for ALL parties. Just sayin.
" Support The Troops" as a call sign for "vote Republican" is petty ,....and other uses by other parties are equally so.This is not the place for "RAH, RAH,....! US US" ! I don't think.
I don't disagree with the message above,.....I just think its boorish in the context of the c u r r e n t post to which it is thread woven.

I meant absolutely no personal disrespect. My issue was simply one of,....oh, I suppose "form and appropriateness" . While I fully appreciate and agree with your opinion, as a matter of personal taste I tend to think "wrong stage".
I also appreciate you credentials as a military man to a "greater than average" gravitas in "all matters vet",....and of course to making judgements about where to voice your opinion,....I just don't think I would side with a commander in chief on this particular social nuance if he took your position.
But I am certainly not advocating a "war stance" ( metaphorically ) in regards to this issue,....I just happened to have an issue with the issue, so I formally issue a statement of peaceful and respectful intent.

There are few that have served that would say it was worth going off to fight in an unjustified war. Some young soldiers will change their point of view later in life when they have time to reflect.
World War Two was the exception. We did have to go and fight against tryanny. But even those that did fight would be the first to say war is Hell. That it should be the LAST choice of a society to make. Not the first. GWB jumped at the chance to become a War President much too quickly for me. He didn't think things through at all. Our soldiers were ill-prepared. Rumsfeld should pay a price for what he said how we go to war with the military we have. I have always thought that this "War on Terrorism" should not have been declared. It's unwinnable.
We should have sent "Marshall Dillon-types" to arrest the criminals and bring them before a criminal court for trial. Not a military one. We elevated those criminals to "soldier status" by sending our troops against them. Enemy combatants is NOT what I would call them. "Thugs" is much more closer to the truth. And we didn't do our men and women in uniform any favors by turning them into a "police force" to the World.
Peace and respect sounds wonderful to me!

They made their own bed, now they have to lay in it. It's their own fault for joining and their parents and friends fault for letting them go. I shed no tears. They chose to pick up that gun! They can choose to set it down.

It's not that simple, really. I have long suspected that Congress has intentionally tanked our economy, more than once, so that young people have little choice for a future outside of military service, and if you have ever spent any time with a recruiter, most of them will admit that they lie for a living.
It has always been interesting to me that they recruit most heavily from areas where kids coming out of high school have the bleakest futures in front of them...West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and Virginia coal country. The failing agricultural areas of the deeper South, and inner city minorities. I remember the Vietnam era too, and the kids driving brand new cars after graduation were headed to college, whereas the kids with no future in front of them signed up with Uncle Sam. At some point, you watch this play out, over and over again, and you begin to realize the entire process has been deviously orchestrated.
I'm pretty sure one of the reasons we have so many inferior police here at home is because the good guys, who would have been good police officers, are off in some damn desert defending the rights of corporations to exploit and destroy economies and civilizations.
I spit on Congress.
