This is no longer the America we grew up with . The new government is emerging , and "the People" are not a part of it . Unless we fight hard , NOW , it will be a long time before we can ever get it back , perhaps it is already hopeless , but i vote we make it SO difficult to dominate us , they give up . There are Ways .
This is the dumbest idea I've ever heard of in modern government!
This so-called 'Super Committee' is the last straw. I campaigned for Obama and like so many others, had such hopes for his Administration. But with this mind boggling capitulation, I must now admit that Obama has let us all down on a herculean scale.
This President has now forfeited all his power as President by allowing a new branch of government to circumvent the US Congress. Furthermore, he clearly does not have the best interest of the average American in his sights... which now makes him part of the problem, not the solution. Its' a sad time in America.
I doesn't really matter who the Dems put on the committee. A Lieberman would make it easier for the rethuglicans to get what they want without the trigger. But the rules are setup in "heads we win, tails you lose" format. The Dems could load up the committee with six copies of Carl Marx and it would end the same way.
Lieberman won't be able to be seated on that committee since he is not a Democrat or Republican, but rather the head of the "Lieberman Party" and he caucuses with the Thugs these days anyway. Unfortunately, I don't think that Bernie Sanders will be able to be seated on this committee either as he is an independent rather than Democrat (even though he is one of the few that actually acts like a Democrat)
This whole idea makes me more than a little uneasy, just by the way it is structured.
I have news for anyone too steeped in ignorance to realize it but it is not a Republican/ Democrat thing. Tough for the water carriers out there. It is a liberal/ libertarian as they have been known but to me me the opposite of liberal is conservative thing. The point is, this Super Congress which has morphed into the label Super Committee to avoid pesky questions about its legitimacy, is to be made up of 6 Republicans and 6 Democrats. In fact, if a member of either House voted against the do nothing debt bill last week it they are enjoined from participating in this Super Congress. So you can put your characterization about "lock -stepping Rethuglicans" where the sun doesn't shine.
I have already called my Senator, a Democrat, about this and asked the call taker where the senator found the authority in the Constitution to do this. Her response was, and I quote," Where does it say we can't". So there you have it boys and girls. In addition to Pelosi who laughed when asked about the Constitutional authority for Obamacare we have a Senate, and a Congress if history is any indicator, that thinks that not being prohibited is to be permitted.
So now you have two Demoncrat Senators to join the Rethuglican Senators.
You can be your Aunt Tilleys t%*t that this Super Whatever will screw us. Just like to see the author have a little intellectual honesty about the subject.
I've read the bill.. Want to point me in the direction where it says .."if a member of either House voted against the do nothing debt bill last week it they are enjoined from participating in this Super Congress"
There is no language in the bill that says or even implies that. Show me.
Except I know how to spell "ignorance" so I guess I'm ahead of you. Now instead of retreating to throwing zingers as a replacement for discussion you wish to refute something I said in my post? Happy Monday.
This is in response to kb723,wynnmeg61,tlbuffin. What the fuck are you guys berating paratus for? I usually don't agree with ANYTHING the guy(or lady) says but this time his argument mirrors most of the comments here. He's against the "super committee", and thinks they are going to screw us. Aren't those the same opinions you have? Just because the guy is usually arguing from the wrong side of the isle doesn't mean we can't agree when he makes a sound one, especially when it is the same argument YOU are making! Hating just to hate is stupid.
My post shows that it is not only one party which was the intent. If McConnell wishes to remove that as an issue that is his perogative but at the time I wrote the post it was accurate based on news at that time. There is no b.s. you and I know it. This is not a party problem it is a Consittutional problem and we should be on the same side on this one. If your hatred of me because I don't worship at the alter of the state is that pronounced then I can't help you. May your chains rest lightly on you when you bow down to lick the hand that feeds you.
You people are so pathetic. You will sink the entire country with your hatred of anyone who does not see things your way. Why do you think I don 't take you seriously? I'm having a battle of the wits with unarmed people and LOVING it. Thanks for the response. Typical liberal keeping its word.
Oh they agree but because it is me they will argue until they are blue in the face. Many here would not cooperate with anyone from a differing political bent to save themselves from drowning. The three you mention make it a point to do the ganging up. I don't mind. It's rather funny actually.
Thanks for the support. Voted you up.
well, at least my question was answered... your dishonesty is deliberate. Your statement that *Bolding is mine---
" if a member of EITHER HOUSE voted against the do nothing debt bill last week it they are enjoined from participating in this Super Congress" was in fact a lie. Only one side said that, Republicans. Own it. If it was accurate based on news at the time you would have provided a link. You can still provide a link - prove me wrong.. I'll wait.
I dont hate you, I dont even know you. I challenge you to go back through all of my responses to you and find hate. I challenge you to find anything but me calling out your lies and backing up my assertions with links, with facts.
The fact that you felt the need to make the issue of prohibiting members of congress to sit on the committee as a bipartisan opinion when it was not shows that it is YOU who is worshiping at the altar.
For the record- I think this super committee is a huge mistake but I will not use lies to bolster my reasons for disliking it.
tlbuffin I do Not see any comment by that poster below... send me a PM, soon I am heading out to dinner with my Girlfriend, it's her B-Day and I will not be back til later... Sheesh this has been a very busy day... For the first time in months I posted nothing today...
Dear sir do please read the entire statement that is being debated before calling me a hater. I might even be able to suggest some reading materials on the architecture and function of the U.S. Republic.
Joe Lieberman is not a Democrat. He lost the Democratic Primary. He campaigned with John McCain and Sarah Palin. That in it's self illustrates, he is no Democrat and should not be included in the Democratic catagory.
If Joe Lieberman is in the Super Committee, he should count as a Republican. Don't give a Democratic seat at the table to a 'cloned' Republican. If Joe Lieberman get's a seat at the table, so should Bernie Sanders.
Absolutely! All those who make the choice also know they are Blue Dog (almost Republican) Democrats. If they are chosen, the game has been rigged for the Republicans! That would be sad, sad, sad, for working class Americans.
Right! Normally I wouldn't include McCaskill with the likes of Ben Nelson, but she is up for re-election and being a fiscal conservative, in my mind, she may try to snag a few repub votes with a bonehead move or two.
Joe Lieberman is not and has never been a Democrat. He has his own agenda which has nothing to do with representing or giving voice to the will and desire of his constituents, not unlike many other elected representatives of the 'People'.
Lieberman should not be on the committee and is undoubtedly going to support the Rip-us-off-ican agenda of corporate well fare
I have the answer, pick me, pick me, my hand is up, pick me----- once the urban areas have burned beneficently and the corpses of the dead are too decayed for consumption the best survival method will be: Hunting from well concealed ground blinds over corpse baited sites with small caliber guns and after the ammo is exhausted by bow and arrow or cross bow. Rats, canines, raccoon, opossum, cats, scavenger birds, all will make wonderful stews for many months after the Great Republican Redistribution.
I to think that the committee is Unconstitutional, but to answer your question; No, I don’t think he has a chance at being appointed.
I would like to see Sanders and Franken, but I am still deciding on the third and I think there are several good options but definitely Not Lieberman.
I'm sure the SCOTUS is rushing to judge it as unconstitutional too. I can see with my little eye, Judge Clarence Thomas wetting a decision right now correcting this wrong. Sorry, just woke up from my catnap. What did I write?
Super Committee? More Like Super-Villain Committee! The American people did not agree to follow laws passed by this new thug group, and WE SHOULD NOT. It's a blatant middle-finger to the Constitution. There is a reason there are checks and balances on Congress, and it's NOT OKAY to just get rid of them. This whole committee is Unconstitutional, and we should not follow their laws. What's next, appointing one Super-King who makes all the laws? http://liberal-propaganda.blogspot.com/2011/07/super-congress.html
Lieberman is an independent, so I don't think he'll be on the "super" committee. But as sure as there will be a tomorrow, I know we'll all be F$CKED by it. Okay, bad analogy. The way things are going, there may not be a tomorrow.
Did you see my post of Lieberman saying we need to do away with social security, and use that money for defense... Lieberman will be leaving office next year, and he is the perfect Turn Coat, he has nothing to lose...
If he leaves office he cant be on the committee. It is a lifetime appointment for as long as the person is still in Congress. Even if he doesn't leave office, Reid would never appoint him. Never in a million years. Republicans dont want his ass either. Even with his recent talk about defense.. he's a flip flopper and everybody knows it.
Democrats will want people with a proven record of championing progressive causes. Republicans will want people with proven records of championing... regressive causes..lol
Dang, KB...let it all hang out. Get it out of your system about the "system" doing you wrong now!
Work it out. Work through it. Then...since you all that aren't for either Party, technically speaking, start the Democratic version of the Tea Party. You know, a "Party in a Party".
I figure we need turdy tree and a turd per cent to swing things. You don't have to have enough to be a majority, just enough to keep the majority from doing anything without your participation! Exactly what the Tea Baggers are doing to the Rethugs today! Leading them around like they have a bullring in their noses!
Until then....let it all hang out!
+^d and a ^5 2!
P.S. We need some suggestions for the name.....I propose the "Beer Party"..hiccup! Because everyone wants someone they'd like to have a beer with!
