    • I saw this on Countdown and was infuriated. With all of the illegal immigrants in our country and the efforts to afford them the opportunity to become legal, you would think that accommodations could be made for legal aliens. I thought that when you married an American, you were granted citizenship. These guys were married here and that should apply. I know my brother married a woman from Costa Rica and they are in a loop-dy-loop of paperwork that has gone on for over a year. She has managed to be allowed to visit twice, I believe, in all that time, for a short time only. I would think that after all of these years our Country would recognize this man as a member of our society. What is so f --ing special about being a US citizen if we treat people this way?!

Excellent comment, joynoel. I first heard about this on Countdown as well. I thank Keith for bringing this story to our attention. This is so wrong and makes one wonder exactly what you do..."What is so f --ing special about being a US citizen if we treat people this way?!"

    • This is bullshit. These people have the right to live their lives in peace, freedom, and happieness. They have followed all of the immigration rules. Citizenship should be granted A.S.A.P. +^d

    • If they grant a special dispensation to this couple they will be opening up a pandora's box of conundrums and legal arguments. DOMA needs to be put to death and Marriage Equality needs to become the law of the US and that way, all gay couples will have the same legal rights as straight couples with regard to immigration. That is the best way to bring equality to all people.

I totally agree with you in principle, but the wheels of justice are slow in civil rights cases so unfortunately special dispensations will be how these cases are handled for a while.

    • It galls me that I live in a country that has a Dem in the WH but is still controlled by draconian, right-wing policies in many areas. When Obama can say to Luis Gutierrez' face that he shouldn't be thinking about the possibility of immigration reform any time soon because "the votes aren't there" but then not step in and issue an executive order to block such an immoral action by the INS in the name of an act that his own administration has decided to no longer defend in court, that would be terribly wrong. Why should this couple be destroyed by an act that should stand seperately from immigration law currently on the books? In this instance of needless punitive punishment of law abiding people, in all good conscience, this adminstration should act for the good of its people and use the power of the pen. Weren't enough good servicemen punished by DADT before action was finally taken? Equality in this country is still a phantom concept.

    • It is very important that the Obama Administration reconsider this heartless and shortsighted decision in light of the couple's loyalty, medical situation, and contributions to this country. Thanks, Leen.
