heh heh heh, HuffPost has an insurection on their hands among the commenters

Seems they want some new graphic logo, but they don't want to pay a graphic artist to design it. They want readers to do if for free; having a "Contest" Gee, ads everywhere and they won't hire a graphic artist for one little project?

How are those tax cuts for the rich and corporate working for you, America?

Thought corporations needed a lotta tax breaks so they would create jobs. Looks more like they want the $$ AND free labor too. It's funny as AO-helL that the bozos who bought HP, ran more ads and wanted writers to give them 'blog content' for free now go public and basically admit they don't think they should have to pay for anything. Arrogant much?

The comments are a hoot and might give you hope that some Americans are waking up about how working people are exploited and how big corporations think they can get if for free.

That's it exactly. And the few remaining "Liberals" there would make President Obama ashamed with their gutter talk, lowball antics and tactics. Their 'mental'ity (pun intended) is more closely related to Teabaggers'.

LOL, I figure they probably will see the wisdom in hiring someone to design it. I do hope the pinhead who came up with the idea of freebie graphic work AND the tight wad who ran with the idea are both looking for jobs.

No, not really, because I've moved on. You can choose to believe that ... or not.

I'm actually here to talk about issues, politics, because I believe Republicans don't really respect women. I'm not here to talk about HP or fixate on it.

Obsession will eat you inside out like a cancer.

Of course that's the hypocrisy, but with the AOL merger, they needed to rid the site of class and intelligent, civilized debate.
Jerry Springer is what sells. No real Liberals there anymore, just the Tea Bag equivalent; same behaviors, different party.

    • I agree with a lot of the other comments below. I do not like what it has become and have encouraged a lot of my friends to come here. I was quite dismayed to notice the lock down of the other article HERE.

    • If anyone here still goes to Huffington Post, go ahead and use this little image I just sort of whipped out for your logo contest entry. I call it "Spreading the News".

Censorship is a thorny issue, indeed. I think the missing component, as you pointed out, is the responsibility to use one's free speech wisely. But, bad habits are being imported here from other sites, and I'm afraid that's becoming the SOP all over the internet. It's becoming the new norm.

The "moderation" at HP is capricious at best, and outrageously overbearing as a matter of course, IMO. A simple "Thank you" can go pending for over an hour while vicious attacks stand, and collect 'faves'. Arianna is notoriously thin-skinned, thou shalt not question the modus operandi at HP. I think HP could do a lot to mitigate the problem by doing away with all of the "community moderators", and leave it up to paid staff. But, that might have the effect of cutting down on the clicks. I hope that Current can remain free of that sort of supression.

From what I'm hearing, their Canadian and UK versions are not being met with enthusiasm - perhaps they're not as gullible as we tend to be in the US? I'm disappointed that the bulk of the voices left over there seem to be the fringes, and that they're there more for the battle than for debate and discussion. It's quite trying to post there, anymore.

As far as american liberals being misrepresented, I don't know how that's playing overseas - but I see fewer and fewer posts that truly represent a sound liberal viewpoint. I'm not convinced that the people who post there can do anything to turn it around, I think it has to come from the top (or the advertisers). As it stands, it feels like "Murdoch Lite" some days.

BTW - a friend of mine in the UK stated that too many remember Arianna from prior incursions and do their best to ignore her and hope that she goes away. Encouraging, in light of what she's done to the place.

The ability to comment on a subject and not make personal attacks is what should be separating us from RIPublican/Tea Party people. The use of facts and logic will always win a discussion. It also shows a level of maturity that you do not see on the other side.

HuffPo has changed, not for the better, and that is too bad. Current is changing too, hopefully for the better. The corporation that is Current needs to listen to the Community and their wants as much as the need to increase revenue. Hopefully, we will see a balance and a joint effort to make this a better place for news, comments and entertainment, both on the net and on the TV.

"this seems to be lost on them, and an increasingly alarming number of so-called "liberal" websites, and it is a very dangerous thing to have in our midst."

Used to post at/read Democratic Underground, until that which you just described went on to such an extent that I committed DUicide one night, taking on the son of a member of the Catfood Commission who loved to copy/paste that group's PR schtick and also seemed able to run roughshod over long time, productive members of that once useful site.

While I am aware that many here show justified disdain for all things HP, I posted this little tidbit, which I found among the twitter feed journalists I follow, because it is a good illustration of a site going from medium to awful and showing complete contempt for the people who use it; And that this is just an illustration of how many corporations work. When a website turns to gold, big corporations will jump in and do what big corporations do.

I do hope those who never check HP anymore will forgive me, but it is a good idea to keep an eye on what others are up to. When they screw up, it is real handy to know about it and use it to point out how things go bad. Thank you for taking the time and effort to post about this.

Re the "private website" aspect to censorship. We really do have to accept that is a fact. They can control what is published. It is their right. And we can respond by what we do in the marketplace that helps set their revenue from ads.

No TV station will let everybody say anything. Websites are pretty much the same. I have read many complaints about censorship here at Current. But I do understand there are liability issues so I grasp that it will have to happen from time to time. I don't have to like it, but reality is what it is.

Re threats left up on HP: Not sure, but I don't think all things get 'moderated' so it is likely many bad things will get missed. And as someone who moderated at lesser sites, where there was less traffic, I have to say, unless someone flags a comment, it probably will go unnoticed and unaddressed. Part of good forum citizenship means sometimes you need to rat out a rat so offending posts/trends can be address.

I know, here at current, we had a thread complaining about spam posts. There had been a lot of them and yeah, annoying to the reader. I flagged some over several days, then stopped, figuring I was new here and might not just have a grasp of what was fair here. I didn't want to annoy mods further. When the thread complaining about spam was posted and I saw so many 'me too' posts, it helped me learn what community standards were here. When we were asked/invited by mods to please flag such problem threads and even note/ advise when we saw patterns of spamming by specific posters, it helped me remember that mods are not superhuman beings who see all. Community members have to help and be eyes on the playing field.

Sure, some people will be whiners and flag people they don't like or who don't agree with their posts. But this is a pretty savvy group here, and so far not over run with the discussion killers on the right who do tend to invade (perhaps under some direction, who knows?) left leaning sites that are constructive in sharing ideas, experiences, resource links for solid information. Boy has that happened at HP. Face it, TPTB will ALWAYS send out the monkeys to try to wear us down; they think liberal=pushovers and they are relentless in efforts to just drive all discussions into the ditch, not unlike the GOP pols on the Hill. But I have faith in most everybody here at current. Many of us have been in forum tussles before. Most of us have good intentions and hope this forum will remain constructive, informative, supportive, and maybe even fun sometimes. I trust that most here will know the difference between a real problem post and something that just needs to be ignores.

But sites do get into legal problems sometimes because of what goes out on them, so moderation, or at least provable attempts to moderate are probably necessary to decrease liability issues. Some will get missed, especially at sites with enormous traffic, but they need to be able to say 'we tried'. Sometimes law enforcement comes calling and wants to look at some posts and ISPs. It's happened.

And I enjoy engaging with you. Helps me flesh things out. Much appreciated.

Not only a shame, but not what I tried to discuss in the OP. HP's latest antic, trying to get graphic work without paying, is an illustration of what we see too much of from more and more corporations: work done without them having to pay the workers.

So sorry this got focused on why we all hate HP. It was not my intention.

It's about the exploitation of people generally done by a whole lotta corporate entities and demonstrates what those making the decisions think of the working people of America; just another resource to be used up and thrown out.

( kidding,....kidding,.....my scribbles are pretty good,.....but I haven't even seen your scribbles,....they may well inspire the gods themselves. Hopefully they don't all employ those SCARY,SCARY clowns !!! )

I can see how this approach may serve to get free stuff for that hufftypo community though.

WTH, what's the deal, okay a nude pic, which I didn't approve of, but that poster for the most part tends to be a stout pacifist, if not militant; and the rest I would hardly call it a lynching.

to the current board monitor, you are in fact cute, therefore, I do not share Sandy’s opinion on Ms. Huffington, but the web-site and Huff boards stink. I mean that in non-confrontational spirit. Although, I think sandy did make some good points…wait I disavow the use of the holy skills of reason and truth when used by the mind of a huff detractor.
