"National Emergency Jobs Defense Act" by Kucinich

Image
Along with sustainable clean & alternative energy, jobs and employment should be national emergency issues. Why does it take a single lone wolf, Kucinich, to state the obvious, while we here at Current have been shouting for such acts forever already?

    • As always it is Rep. Kucinich who is the prescient member of Congress suggesting real concrete solutions that make sense. And to the oil lover who stated you cannot force feed products into a marketplace... tell that to your polluting, toxifying, lying, murdering fossil fuel fascists who perpetuate an energy monoculture and who have been doing all in their power for decades to keep TRUE CHOICE from the American people in STOPPING renewable energy and the visionary people out here at every turn who are the future. The demand IS THERE and we are seeing it more and more every day. And with peak oil, population increases and the effects of climate change on agriculture, water, etc. such energy sources will be a necessity. Preparing for it now by providing Americans with training and jobs that meet the challenges of the future is not only the smart thing to do, but the healthy, moral thing to do.

    • Dude...that's genius. Put the control of money in the power of congress.
If the economy tanks, then it's their fault. Not some bank who's trying to make a profit.

    • It seems that Dennis Kucinich and Bernie Sanders are two of the very few politicians who regularly take up the cause of the working class. They are yelling from the wilderness, as the rest of Congress lines up at the corporate trough. We don’t have to wonder why this is happening It is corruption plain and simple. It’s too bad that most of the American public, which suffers at the hands of corporations and the rich, doesn’t have the sense to vote in their own self interest. We have to learn, butt-kissing will get us nowhere. Supplicants lose their own self respect and the respect of those who are taking advantage of the situation. If we don’t get behind qualified progressives we are not going to make it. The are whittling away more and more each day. http://sibob.org/wordpress/

You can add Al Franken to that list and hopefully Allan Greyson again next election. I think we have a good chance next election to turn things around. Yeah, I know, I’m an optimist, but the alternative is depressing, yes there is a pun there.

I agree with you about these two individuals. (We need all the extra help we can get.) Hopefully new blood will emerge along the way too. When the "boomers" are too old to fend for themselves, we will need someone younger to see that we are not put out into the street, or sent to "Soylent Green" factories. (They'll probably export our bodies offshore for processing and send back the "product" inside containers so that U.S. citizens won't get the work.) http://sibob.org/wordpress/?page_id=6900

    • As always Rep Kucinich D Ohio Has it spot on. You need Government to start getting the economy going by putting out money for a jobs program to get a multitude of the people back to work. Then it will snowball from there.
Those people will start to buy products and pay taxes. Then the business community starts to hire as they need to keep up with the demand for products upon which those new hires will start to buy products and pay taxes and so on and so forth.
The real truth as to what the Republicans want to do for their leash holders is to stifle the economy enough so that there will be a huge labor force that business can buy for pennies on the dollar and pay no benefits to.
This is what the Republican and Tea Party robots that vote the dog Republicans on the leashes will never get because you don't understand simple solutions with a 3rd grade education.

    • How many jobs did the interstate highway system create? and how much revenue was created by those same people that were paying taxes. Also how much money was saved by people being taken off unemployement or welfare. Dennis is right ( I mean good right)

    • Other than the obvious fact that absolutely NO ONE in Congress has been in any way affected by the recession and therefore cannot begin to comprehend the economic nightmare more and more Americans are forced to endure every day; other than the fact that they are ALL milking the government for every imaginable perk their greed can dream up, yet that they continue to give themselves more and more obscenely generous lifetime benefits designed to guarantee their continued lavish lifestyles; other than the fact that an overwhelming majority of them are just there to ride the gravy train while passing time being entertained and letting lobbyists fill their pockets; other than the fact that that same overwhelming majority of "lawmakers" NEVER produces ANY legislation, cannot be bothered to show up on the Hill and has no clue as to the content of whatever legislation either their leaders or their lobbyists demands they actually show up and vote for; other than the fact that that same overwhelming majority of lawmakers has ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in representing the people who voted them into office and gave them a job they are absolutely not qualified to handle even if they would make the time to try actually working; other than all of those facts, in the midst of such a human cesspool called Congress, 2 1/2 years late a handful of them may actually produce a piece of legislation somewhat relevant to their constituents. Don't get your hopes up yet of anything worthy actually happening as this embryo will probably be aborted!

most probably, DJB. It appears that nothing of consequence in the country's and the people's interest will be accomplished until the country is in the streets shedding blood. Let's just hope that most of the bloodshed is within the criminal corporate cartels and the lobbyist/legislator groups who have enabled them.

I'm sorry if common sense and the marketplace is beyond you. Green products popularity in the marketplace will occur if and when there's a demand for it. Demand shouldn't occur by government subsidies because one political party believes the green movement should be forced on the populace.

take a whiff of oxygen Warren, you totally discredit yourself with this anemic fallacy. you know damned well the corrupt congress has bedded big oil in order to suppress the development of "G R E E N" energy for decades, for their mutual exclusive enrichment at the public's monumental excessive and unnecessary expense, all while there have been cries and demands for that "G R E E N" product for those decades. That one product alone blows your suggestion all to hell.

I would love to see why 5 people have marked Warrens post down.
Look at the sales of the Chevy Volt. Warrens point is not that green projects are bad, I support everything sustainable we can do and I'm sure he does too but what he is saying is that government cannot force products to market without a demand. Demand is driven by perceived and actual need, desire and ability to pay for the item. The Volt is too expensive for what it delivers. PV cells used to be the same but are now becoming more affordable. I have solar hot water and geothermal HVAC in my house but the start up cost is considerable. I will be installing pv cells in the near future, not all at once but a few at a time. When the economy of these things become apparent there will be sales but the government pushing a new mousetrap will not necessarily work.

    • Why does it take a lone wolf? Because the Dems have let the argument to slide so far to the right, that people like Kucinich are left in the dust. We need to start pulling this fight back left and Obama has to lead. The argument should not be "How much should we cut from the safety net?" but instead, "How can we strengthen the safety net?"

Agreed. Kucinich proposes those good investments you've refered to.
Republicans remind me more of people better suited as machine tenders.
Democrats are people oriented workers. Investing in people is the best
investment anyone can make because it not only produces more wealth,
which is automaticly more equitably distributed...It also produces better
educated people who are more likely to stand by policies mantaining an
equitable tax code and the social safety nets established during the New
Deal and the Great Society movements. The tax code during the
Eisenhaur/Kennedy years produced such prosperity that experts of that
time were projecting 30 and even 20 hour workweeks to timeshare an
economy grown to encompass a burgeoning population. That fact might
well astonish people in light of all the steady decline we've seen since 1965.

    • HELL YEAH, CONGRESSMAN KUCINICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"My bill reasserts the Constitutional right and responsibility of Congress to furnish the nation with a money supply fit for purpose. No more wild swings from economic boom to bust. No more erosion of purchasing power. We can at last have a stable currency. To do this is surprisingly simple. My legislation does three things:"

"- Incorporate the Fed into the Treasury and make monetary policy truly accountable to the Congress and the American people."

"- End the banks special privilege by no longer allowing them to create our money supply when they make loans, through a simple and non-disruptive accounting change."

"- Invest money into renewing our crumbling infrastructure, making it fit for the 21st Century; creating real wealth and millions of good jobs at the same time."

"These essential changes will ensure our economy is the most efficient and prosperous in the world. It will raise demand for American-made goods at home and abroad and reduce our trade deficit."

"I look forward to your support in restoring America's economy to full health. "

So he basically wants to end the Fed and have Congress control the monetary supply just like Ron Paul. I applaud Kuccinch for standing up for the people and being a radical!

Unfortunately, the American people have no trust in Congress to control the monetary supply, so the only way this plan would work would be to fire the entire Congress.

As much as I think that some members in Congress are really working for the American people, I believe it is necessary that they all have to go. That means Kuccinch, Paul and all of the other incumbents so we can get a true fresh start.

fresh isn't always better, and wisdom is to not throw out the baby with the dirty water. but the 90+ % of congress which must go needs to be tried for aiding and abetting the enemy, the criminally militant corporate cartels who are the enemy of the nation and the people. they need to be put to death for their treason and their participation in the unjustified deaths of thousands of people. let's address it correctly if were going to even start it.

He actually wanted to take Obama to court for aiding the Libyans and he sued the House cafeteria because he broke a tooth. I think people were concerned that he would be another embarassment like Weiner. For a moment I thought he'd changed ideologies. He's scheduled to lose his district to redistricting, but maybe he should run against Boehner. Isn't he from Ohio?

The media keeps asking him that irrelevant question to try and paint him as a racist. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Paul was serving in the Air Force as a surgeon at the time of the passage of the Civil Roghts Act, no doubt performing medical procedures on the same people that the media are insisting that he hates.

The real issue with the Civil Rights Act should by this: why are race pimps like Chris Matthews, who are obsessed with Obama's "blackness" constantly bringing up this irrelevant question?

Even if Ron Paul was opposed to the Civil Rights Act and hated blacks, he would not be able to overturn it were he elected president.
