Deforestation in Amazon Increases

From July 2010 to July 2011 the vast South American rainforest lost 2,654 square kilometers (1,649 square miles).

More than 95 percent of the deforestation in April took place in Mato Grosso, a frontier for cattle ranches and soybean farming.

    • This is the mentality of the world today, ME, ME, ME! So what if I chop down all the trees and starve the planet of oxygen, I want what I want and I want it now! I may be considered bad, but I actually laugh my ass off when some idiot decides that they want to take over some habitat of an animal and that animal attacks them. or some orangutan that someone tries to male a pet of rips it's so called owners arms off. No better for you. learn to stay in your own place and stop encroaching on nature because she can be a real bitch when she is pissed!

    • That is insane even I know better than to destroy the trees that are keeping us alive. Not to mention all the undiscovered life that is there. This just makes me sick to my stomach

    • Boycott the products of companies like Monsanto, Cargill, etc. that are using this deforested land to grow GM crops and spray toxic poisons all to bring the processed foods we see on our shelves and the meat that is consumed. It really does have to start with us.

    • I'm not the biggest climate science follower, but stories like this really suggest that the planet is approaching, if it hasn't already, that proverbial tipping point.
