WHAAAAT??? MO School Makes Special Ed Student Apologize to Her Rapist

You needed to be shocked today, right? Let's visit Republic Middle School just outside the buckle of the bible belt in Springfield, Missouri.

Back in 2009, a special needs girl was raped by a fellow student. The school principal Patricia Mithelavage, school counselor Joni Ragain and school resource officer Robert Duncan didn't believe her. The school used 'intimidating interrogations' and the girl recanted.

The counselor's profile of the girl notes that she "would forego her own needs and wishes to satisfy the request of others around so that she can be accepted." So naturally, the school forced her to write a note of apology and hand it to her accused rapist.

Then they expelled her for the rest of the year.

She returned to school in 2010.

And she was raped again. By the same boy.

The police were brought in after the second rape and lack of response from the school. Her attacker pleaded guilty in juvenile court "to unspecified charges."

And the girl was suspended again for a "Public Display Of Affection."

The family just filed suit against the principal, the counselor, among others noting this all occurred as a "result of the negligence, carelessness, and conduct of third parties."

As if anyone needed more information to trigger a coronary--or a lynching--GUESS HOW THE SCHOOL RESPONDED. They said that 7th grade special ed student "neglected to use reasonable means to protect herself."

Remember these names: school principal Patricia Mithelavage, school counselor Joni Ragain and school resource officer Robert Duncan. They're about to become famous.

    • The author of this piece is very wrong in bringing up "the Bible Belt" as though this has anything germane to the story. Never miss an opportunity to belittle do they.

This is reprehensible behavior by the school. This girl has done nothing wrong. NOTHING justifies rape and forcing the girl to apologize for being a victim is....well for once the English language fails me. This young man is lucky that the girl is not my daughter.

    • This is some sick shit. These people need to be turned over to a gang of rapists for a few hours. Then they need to be put through the same type of denial that they forced this young lady to go through. Barring that they should be brought up on child abuse charges as well as aiding and abetting the rape of a minor. These are some sick sick people. :-( +^d

Kenny, I freaked out when I read this story. I'm not sure what the school administration's motivations were or why they chose to take this course of action but let me tell you, it's going to get a helluva a lot of attention here in MO.

      Keep up the great work!
