    • See now if I would've posted this..... Nice to see Ry clearing up some bullshit here on current....

The government has been plotting to overthrow Gaddafi for 30 years now at least, they saw the "Arab Spring" as the perfect opportunity....

They used programs designed to manage several on-line accounts on several social media sites (with 1 person sitting over 50-100 accounts, and with a feature in the program to rewrite the same statement in about 30 different ways, and instantly post variations of the same statement on multiple accounts... Or by timer so it looks more natural), to win the propaganda war...

There will only be more sophisticated social engineering to come

I don't know if it was this video or another, but in one he mentions that fact that most Libyans aren't online, they don't speak English well, and they aren't such prolific journalists (not in English)

    • Some people need to study and understand the theories about international development to understand what is going on in Libya. What is being reported in the media is not the truth....not by a long shot.

    • the Libyan people wanted and deserved their freedom from the dictatorship of gadaffi. Now they have it thanks to the help of Nato and the US. As a citizen of the US I am proud that we helped the people of Libya throw off the yoke of this tyrant. what happen to their country in which 99 percent of the infrastructure remains and to their economy is in their hands and if certain people are concerned for the well being of the people at the hands of multinational corporations then by all means keep a close eye on their dealings and make any underhanded dealings public as we always have when corporations try to sucker any people. But do not begrudge the victory the Libyan people have achieved with the help of our nation and its Nato partners nor mourn the passing of a dictator into the exile of history.

    • Especially when it was the BBC news which is based in England who used to have India as a colony. Pretty funny they can't get the flags of their former colonies right.

    • maasanova,

Wanting the truth from news media is something you and I agree on. No matter who it hinders or benefits, I believe we both just want facts from news outlets.

I'm not so sure this gentleman is delivering the facts, though I believe he thinks he is and is sincere. He tells us the BBC footage is not Green Square, but he never shows us the real Green Square for comparison. Doesn't offering a side-by-side comparison sound like something you would want to see from someone making these claims? I know I would.

The flags being waved do appear to be India's flag, but I was never able to tell for certain from this video if the flags had the Ashok Chakra (the 24-spoke wheel) in the center of the white area (and I was wearing my best glasses, too). I believe they may have been there, though, and I will give him that one. But a flag can be carried anywhere, so that proves nothing... even though it does *imply* he *may* be correct.

I have seen flags of that style and color in CNN footage which purported to be from Green Square, but without the Ashok Chakra. I have mentioned to my wife that it was not the flag of Libya. But I have also seen the Libyan flag in some of the same shots. Perhaps CNN made the same mistake as the BBC, or are "in on it," too. I don't know. All I'm saying is, I need something like palm trees in Wisconsin... or in this case, a 360 degree pan to show the differences in the physical location.

Additionally, he did himself no favor by including the other crowds of people and making fun of what BBC may show tomorrow. He lost some credibility, in my eyes at least, by doing that.

I believe he is sincere. I applaud his gumption for doing this, and I do like his style. But when making claims like this, gumption and style do not prove the case.

Then again, he might be correct. But he was only able to *imply* the deception or error... he did not prove it.

I've been able to verify everything that he said in the video through mostly mainstream sources.

I had never bothered to check the Iraq WMD dossier that was plagerized from a college student's thesis paper, but I found a link to often sited liberal alternative news source:

Real Authors of Iraq Dossier Blast Blair

      http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0208-09.htm

Mr Boyne, who works for military magazine Jane's Intelligence Review, said he was shocked his work had been used in the Government's dossier.

Articles he wrote in 1997 were plagiarized for a 19-page intelligence document entitled Iraq: Its Infrastructure Of Concealment, Deception And Intimidation to add weight to the PM's warmongering.

He said: "I don't like to think that anything I wrote has been used for an argument for war. I am concerned because I am against the war."

cool, thanks, I will do a bit of finger work too, what concerns me is the global warming accusation, only in that if the msm is faking stuff for global warming, faux will use this to tarnish the effort.

Its one of those things you have to be stricter on your kids than you are on the nephews and nieces.

Like I can do much, but send over a letter, that says "stop doing that.'' :-)

    • It comes down to the fact they just don't give a shit. The goal was obviously to get something, anything on the air that showed a crowd of people protesting(supporting?) something. Didn't matter what it was just so long as it showed a bunch of people. It's all about the money and viewer ratings. Get something on the air first, no matter what it is.

    • The problem is that war is confusing and the fact how the Libyan government intentionally moved reporters around and kept them in the hotel most of the time. Al-Jazeera was one of the only news organizations that was reporting along side with the rebel movement. Freedom of movement for reporters in Gaddafi held territory hindered any reliable reporting.

    • Nick19:

      Not quite.

The problem is that the BBC showed their viewers a video of a protest somwhere in India and told the viewers that it was Libyan protesters in Tripoli's Green Square/Martyr Square.

That's not confusion that's intentional disinformation, blatant wartime propaganda at best.

    • Let's just say that the media already determined the outcome of this. I'm really happy for the Libyans overthrowing the Krazy Kololnel, but it's the way in which the media is reporting this whole story that really comes across as suspicious. Moreover, I just can't let go of the reality that Libya happens to be the largest oil producer on the African continent.

      Did you watch the clip?

The BBC showed a video of a protest and the caption said it was in Tripoli, but it was actually the scene of a protest somewhere in India. The scene was complete with protesters waving India flags and everything.

I've seen a lot of suspicious reports from the corporate media regarding this. I'm not one to expound conspiracy theories or the like, but much of the American media's dialog comes across as scripted.

For now, I can say that the Libyan people seem to be happy with their decision, and I wish them the best. However, I would caution them to be wary of western influence.

There's no "conspiracy theory" they just make shit up and hope they don't get called on it. How can you as a news room producer confuse an Indian protest with a Libyan protest?
