TYT: Right Wing Extremists On The Rise In America - DHS Not Taking Action

KB723
Summary: The Department of Homeland Security has made right wing extremists - which are a growing threat according to a DHS report commissioned under George Bush but released in 2009 - a low priority. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian of The Young Turks explain why.

PS---Check out our new TYT U channel - Hosted by Ana Kasparian of The Young Turks, TYT University focuses on college students and related issues (tuition, finding a job, dating, parties, religion, campus controversy and everything in between). We're looking for students, faculty members and recent graduates struggling to find work to submit videos from across the globe that might be used on the show each week.

"Perhaps the DHS seeks to have these folks on their side, when the going gets rough???"

    • Just finished reading a paper on the rise of Fascism in Italy under Mussolini and there's some interesting parallels I took note of:

A declining economic situation and/or crisis
The presence of a heavy "nationalist" sentiment
Anti union sentiment among the financial class
A strong "democratic" sentiment, usually centrist politicians who get swept by whomever is winning

Actually the funny thing is the socialist/communist were winning power in Italy but their mistake lied in their decision to avoid revolutionary tactics and settle for taking power through the ballot. The fascist supported by the countryside and bankers took power with force and well ya know force has no argument..

Why do I draw these parallels? The answer lies in our contemporary political climate and as we see the country is slowly tearing on old sectarian lines, the political class is maintaining its job and the only groups united to do anything are the same right wing groups as in the past. The politicians are only preoccupied with maintaining their privilege and their danger is they can be pulled to whatever extreme that gains more vote. An example would Sarkozy in France who after seeing the nationalist party "front nationale" gain votes is using harsh anti-immigrant language in his speeches. Eventually these politicians reach a threshold where they are perceived to be soft on their issues by their right wing groups and are forced to either concede to the extremist or face a coup. My worst fear is that if civil society was on the verge of crumbling the likes of Sarkozy would cleverly form a coalition with the likes of Le penn... laugh now but history has shown us we're actually as stupid as we deny being...

    • I wish they would have investigated the guy who planted a bomb next to the MLK parade route in Spokane. Fortunately someone found the bomb before it went off. But, as mentioned in the video, the right-wingnuts get the vapors when right-wing extremists are mentioned so I guess they're off limits and we just have to let them do what they're going to do.

Yes, it's been kept rather quiet for some reason. He was arrested in March and charged with one count of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and one count of knowingly possessing an improvised explosive device, according to a federal complaint. The weapon-of-mass-destruction charge carries a penalty of up to life in prison. He's been linked to a white supremacist group.
Nothing to see here folks, move right along.

This has nothing to do with the subject at hand, and your statement that marijuana policy has anything to do with right/left politics is wrong. Obama backtracked on his campaign promise, pisses me off too, but thats no big deal compared to what some republican politicians have done in the past, hell, one of them even started a war against your right to toke down. This is your brain, this is your brain on drugs. Any questions?

How is it a left wing conspiracy? FFS. A lot of the opposition to prop 19 in California was pot growers. Had they stepped up and supported it, it more than likely would have passed.
Why are you blaming the left for pot being illegal?

    • Maybe it's because they found out that white conspiracy theories of right wing groups overthrowing the government were invented by the ADL and SPLC lawyers and are completely ridiculous.

For starters, the DHS just invented this report and the SPLC lawyers helped them write it (see SandyBerman's link promoting the SPLC and Darryl Johnson). If there really is a white conspiracy as the SPLC suggests, the threat of overthrowing the government is minimal at best.

The growing "threat" of a white conspiracy to overthrow the government helps the SPLC lawyers fundraising efforts and it allowes them to continue to legally harrass, threaten and intimidate their political enemies by taking advantage of our corrupt judicial system. DHS can lobby for more federal funding to stop the growing threat and fund their security pet projects like domestic spying. It's a great scam when you think about it.

Yeah dugdog47, since the SPLC are essentially nothing but a politically biased lobbying group and corporate lawyers whose primary goal is fundraising, if some right wing "extremists group" made sizable donations on a regular quarterly basis, you'd probably see these threats just magically disapear.

In other words, if those white groups would throw some cash at the SPLC they would probaly be likely to leave them alone.

This was the statement..."left in this country as they are destroying our freedom"... The right to sit back and legally get stoned hasnt been allowed for decades. The push to criminalize it started in the 20s and 30s. So, how is that a freedom the left is destroying?

I agree it should be legalized. It is not however a "freedom" that the left is destroying.

im still waiting for paratus to give me specific examples of what rights he/she has lost or is in danger of losing. I wont hold my breath because they wont be able to give any. It's bullshit.

    • Rightwing terrorism has been part of our history here on American soil since...oh, Hell, for as long as righteous rightwing conservative christian neocons have been sucking wind! 1899 until the present.

Listen to Uncle Walter speaking of "rightwing extremists" being a nuisance during the time of JFK's assassination prior to November 22nd, 1963. (at about the six minute mark)

The John Birch Society were the culprits then as they are, under the surface, today!

The JBS was a co-sponsor of the 2010 Conservative Political Action Conference, ending its decades-long exile from the mainstream conservative movement.

      Evil never goes away.

I have a hard time believing that ALL the "shots" were fired from BEHIND President Kennedy!

It CERTAINLY looks to me ONE shot came FROM the "grassy knoll"....from BEHIND Jeb Magruder!

I do blame rightwing extremists for this tragedy.

      No matter what anyone says.

The CBS News Bulletin that was anchored by Walter Cronkite was very generalized since Uncle Walter was in New York reporting what the local afilliate station was feeding him.

The one with Jeb Magruder being interviewed was very shorly after the shots rang out. The news crew whisked Jeb to the station for a live discussion about what he saw and heard.

The Secret Service and FBI treated Jeb like he didn't know what he was talking about and barely questioned him.

Kennedy was dead the instant that second shot hit him, but VP Johnson didn't want the news to be released until he could figue out what to do next. But Walter was broadcasting JFK was alive.because that's what the news departments did...what the government told them to say to us Americans!

      Just like today.

Cover up was written all over this story from the very first shot until today.

BTW, did you notice how the news guy ignores Jeb as he is telling his story? Like the news guy was being told something important...since he wasn;t oaying any attention to Magruder. And his smoking on the air, too.

THE LAST WORDS OF LEE HARVEY OSWALD

Compiled by Mae Brussell - http://www.ratical.org/ratville/JFK/LHO.html

Below is an excerpt from the events of the day. To read the whole story the link above is the one to use.

      -----------------------------------------------

      12:30 P.M., CST, NOV. 22, 1963
      Pres. John F. Kennedy Assassinated

      12:33 P.M.

Lee Harvey Oswald left work, entered a bus, and said, "Transfer, please."

      12:40 - 12:45 P.M.

Oswald got off the bus, entered a cab, and said, "May I have this cab?" A woman approached, wanting a cab, and Oswald said, "I will let you have this one. . . . 500 North Beckley Street [instructions to William Whaley, driver of another cab]. . . . This will be fine." Oswald departed cab and walked a few blocks.

      1:15 P.M. Officer J. D. Tippit Murdered

1:45 P.M. Arrest at the Texas Theater

"This is it" or "Well, it's all over now." Oswald arrested. (Patrolman M. N. McDonald heard these remarks. Other officers who were at the scene did not hear them.) "I don't know why you are treating me like this. The only thing I have done is carry a pistol into a movie. . . . I don't see why you handcuffed me. . . . Why should I hide my face? I haven't done anything to be ashamed of. . . . I want a lawyer. . . . I am not resisting arrest. . . . I didn't kill anybody. . . . I haven't shot anybody. . . . I protest this police brutality. . . . I fought back there, but I know I wasn't supposed to be carrying a gun. . . . What is this all about?"

      2:00 - 2:15 P.M. Drive to Police Dept.

"What is this all about? . . . I know my rights. . . . A police officer has been killed? . . . I hear they burn for murder. Well, they say it just takes a second to die. . . . All I did was carry a gun. . . . No, Hidell is not my real name. . . . I have been in the Marine Corps, have a dishonorable discharge, and went to Russia. . . . I had some trouble with police in New Orleans for passing out pro-Castro literature. . . . Why are you treating me this way? . . . I am not being handled right. . . . I demand my rights."

2:15 P.M. Taken into Police Dept.

      2:15 - 2:20 P.M.

"Talked to" by officers Guy F. Rose and Richard S. Stovall. No notes.

What a crock. "Right wing extremists". Call them for what they are, Americans that do not agree with you. Americans protected by the same Bill of Rights you are. That's the way we roll. Not everyone agrees with you, I'm sorry, that's life, not everyone agrees with me either. Some are crazy, no doubt, everyone on the left is sane? The DHS would do well to target people other than Americans.

I didn't say I sided with them, certainly not on every issue. But they are Americans voicing their opinions, and they are protected Constitutionally as that. Some are out there, no doubt, some on the left are too. I would rather the DHS concentrate on known enemies of America than on Americans speaking their minds as to views that might not be popular to all. Look at the Arab spring uprisings, look at the riots in England, we do not have that calamity here in America because we can say what we want, as stupid as it may happen to be. We have a Bill of Rights that allows us to be as stupid as we want to be.

In Germany, a Disturbing Rise in Right-Wing Violence

The attack seemed singularly horrific: an Egyptian pharmacist, Marwa el-Sherbini, was testifying during an appeal hearing in a Dresden courtroom on July 1 when a Russian émigré, Alex Wiens, lunged at her with a 7-in. kitchen knife. The pregnant mother was stabbed to death as her husband and 3-year-old son looked on helplessly. After protests swept the Arab world, Wiens was sentenced in November to life in prison for what the court deemed a racially motivated murder.

Though shocking in its brutality, the attack was not an anomaly in Germany. Authorities say the country has experienced a disturbing rise in extreme-right-wing violence in recent years. The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) said in a report released last week that politically and racially motivated crimes by the far right hit a record high of more than 20,000 in 2008. Figures for 2009 won't be released until early next year, but the BKA expects them also to be above normal.

This is typical of the rightwingers "playing" german soldiers.

I guess you fail to realize that the word rightwing is reminiscent of what the Nazis were known as, too.

That's Germany, not America. We have a Bill of Rights, they don't. And I think I said, of course there are crazy people on both ends of the political spectrum. That doesn't mean that someone is some kind of terrorist just because they disagree with you. Villifying the opposite side of the aisle is was has gotten us where we are now.
