Supreme Court. Most of the police officers in this country do a great job. But as in any organization you do have the occasional bully, misfit, or outright asshole who thinks that because the represent the law they are above the law. This court says otherwise. Amen. I hope this does not make it to our 5/4 republican bought Supreme Court.

Now we all have to hope this doesn't get to the Supremes while Thomas is still unimpeached! The police have a very dangerous job to do and they deal with people most of us do not care to, so they must have our full cooperation and respect while they perform their job. But as humans, they can do things improperly and it MUST be our right to document their actions and see that justice is truly blind. Now can we get Bush and Cheeny in jail for torture!

No brainer. Remember Reginald Denny, followed by Rodney King ? If not for a citizen filming these two events the perps would have gotten off scot-free. It's our right as citizens to record and release anything we want, just like the city filming a cross walk.

Just like the government has cameras everywhere, (red lights, surveillance, etc.), we should too. Take your camera with you everywhere. Maybe, by chance, you can track down your local politician, (although they try to only be photographed in “contained” situations, where they can control things.) It is time to bring the whole thing out into the daylight. Point, click, upload; if you see a municipal problem, publicize it. Embarrass the incumbent slugs, show the world how negligent they are. If you see a local demonstration that the major media would not put on the air, take a picture or video yourself, and put it up on your own website. It’s time to empower ourselves, through our words and our images. http://sibob.org/wordpress/?p=7216

I would like to add that this story ironically enough discredits your own site since your entire purpose is to get rid of the nation-state because its oppressive and ineffective. This has proven how people power can reform the laws and the state in order to defend and expand one's rights. The more the people participate in the state, the more things get done for the greater good of society. When people are dissatisfied with a certain action being oppressed, they stand up and defend their rights.

This is another ruling that helps the people . Now, more than ever, the American people need to believe that some judges in our courts have a degree of decency if nothing else. This was another easy call. The idea that this issue was in the courts at all tells you the actual state of our country. Every right of Americans is under attack and we need to be reassured that we still have one or two.

Hallelujah a sensible court for once. We need to have transparency at all levels of government in order to establish the rule of law and to keep law enforcement from getting god complexes.

Just in case, using a helmet cam everywhere you go, is probably safest since you never know when another "Rodney King" could happen because when he pleaded "Can't we all just get along?" fell on deaf ears

"VICTORY! - Federal Court Rules Videotaping Police Is A First Amendment Right"
Excellent! That's how the Constitution should work. If the cops can film and surveil us, then we should be able to film them. This is an obvious right for the people-- just like the other day that it was ruled unconstitutional for Reps to take away our right to record town hall meetings--another no-brainer. But, this is still great news!

As I have said in the past if you don't yet have a devise that will record them GET ONE! One of the best ways to protect yourself is to record them at every chance. Do they like it? Hell No they don't!! But it will help to keep the good cops from going bad and make the bad cops scared of us. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!
