Yep, that place where Congresswoman Giffords and others were shot, six fatally, via bullets delivered via Glock. Yep, that place that is still wounded from the violence. Yep, the same ol GOP that just can't help themselves regarding playing to the lowest common denominator. Even some of their own have come out against this tone deaf, insensitive stunt.
Former candidate and recently ousted head of Pima County GOP is very critical of this raffle, and he did the same thing, once upon a time, but prior to the shooting spree that took so many lives and ruined many more. TMP has a bit about his comments. http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/09/tucson-republican-leader-slams-county...
Sorta makes a liar out of Mike Shaw, interim chairman of the Pima County Republican Party, who said he’s had no complaints about the Glock raffle. Shaw made a point of adding that "... past gun raffles have been effective fundraisers and that responsible gun ownership is a constitutional right." He didn't mention whether he has the judgment to know the difference between being able to do a thing and that thing being something one should do. One might guess he is oblivious to the difference and has no inclination to learn.
Here's the PDF of the Pima County GOP newsletter with the raffle info at page 3

I am a 2nd defender. I am a gun owner. I understand that protection is not always a bad thing. But this is just a dog whistle and pandering to the very lowest common denominator by the Pima County GOP.
I hope Mr. Shaw gets comeuppance in abundance. I hope he is run out of politics for having such a tin ear. And I hope that sane Republicans, and I know some in Pima County, take their county committee back from these radical idiots.

That's what I thought, Brush. I had to source it in five places before I would accept that they could be that cold, that unfeeling, that bloody stooopid! And I lived there for 16 years, so I had some knowledge of how wrong headed and radical some of the GOP there is.

Well, that's one way to look at it. I am a bit harsher my own bad self. Used to call Tucson home and know it is the place that is most left leaning in Arizona. This Shaw guy is a meathead.
