shengled - you live in Orlando and don't know about this? You must be walking around with your eyes and ears closed and not paying attention. This has been on all the news channels in Orlando and on national TV. It has also been on the front page of the Orlando sentinel a few times. You know Google is your friend! : )

I guess you got to remember this is Florida, and I always say, if it's really screwed up, it's either Florida or Texas. This judge(?) should be arrested for violations of the First Amendment. Oh by the way isn't this the same judge that let a murderer go free for killing her baby?

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution is part of the Bill of Rights. The amendment prohibits the making of any law “respecting an establishment of religion,” impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.
Originally, the First Amendment applied only to laws enacted by the Congress. However, starting with Gitlow v. New York, 268 U.S. 652 (1925), the Supreme Court has held that the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment applies the First Amendment to each state, including any local government.

The arrest might of violated his freedom of speech, but that is not why he was arrested. It was because he was informing potential jurors about jury nullification, a very powerful tool that jurors are discouraged from using.

I think it's great that the American people are paying for all these victimless crimes. I think more people should be arrested for stupid laws and thrown in prison so that the government can steal more money from the tax payer. I can't wait for the day when 90% of Americans pay checks are taken to pay for this stupidity. Stupid people will eventually be treated stupidly. You gonna reap what you sow! On a different note here is some more info for those of you that are too lazy to go and research stuff on what us going on here. Two great videos on the caging of Mark Schmidter at the bottom of this link http://www.copblock.org/tag/fija/

Several months ago I go the chance to meet Julian. He's a nice old man with a great sense of humor and very patriotic about America. I feel sorry for the officers who arrested him. They must be riddled with guilt and shame for being a part of this. On the outside I'm sure they claim they are doing their job and following the law but inside they surely know they are working for evil to destroy America. Too abuse an old man for fighting for freedom is a sin against everybody who holds the American values of freedom, shame on them and those who support them.

I would say, it does not matter what is being handed out and who it's being handed out to. No one is forcing people to take the jury rights brochures. The people that they are being offered to can just say no thank you, just like if there is something on TV that you don't want to watch, change the channel or switch it off! This is very dangerous. What you have here is a judge making law.

The response I see from a lot of people here... "I can't support this guy because he's not a full blown (insert whichever group you cling too)."
As if you need some group of people/party to tell you how to think... give me a break. Have a brain of your own.... think for yourself... do you really think a person handing out a little flyer detailing your rights should be in prison?!? What a disgrace to humanity... to individual rights,... to what freedom is suppose to stand for.

Yes, short on information....I live in Orlando and have never heard of these guys but I dont watch TV nor did I follow that circus of a trial but nevertheless, free speech is free speech. Anyone should be able to hand out whatever they want on the sidewalk even if it is hate filled, fear mongering or what have you. I'm surprised to read some of the comments here. 145 days in jail for handing out pamphlets? Seems a bit harsh. Damn, a crack dealer can get less than that. Could this guy not afford an attorney? Dr Heicklen? Dr of what? C'mon dude, you took the time to go buy the mask and film the thing.....

I thought perpetuating ignorance was uncool in any circle.... Suit yourself..
And many people strongly disagree with what you're saying
http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/top-secret-america-a-look-...
"The president has given JSOC the rare authority to select individuals for its kill list — and then to kill, rather than capture, them. Critics charge that this individual man-hunting mission amounts to assassination, a practice prohibited by U.S. law. JSOC’s list is not usually coordinated with the CIA, which maintains a similar but shorter roster of names."
No the president giving JSOC carte blanche authority to execute anyone they deem a "threat" is totally ILLEGAL..... But that's what Oh-Bomb-Ya has done....
And yes the two are related, also from the article;
"CIA operatives have imprisoned and interrogated nearly 100 suspected terrorists in their former secret prisons around the world, but troops from this other secret organization have imprisoned and interrogated 10 times as many, holding them in jails that it alone controls in Iraq and Afghanistan."
Well it's good to do on foreign soil right?
Sadly any self respecting "liberal" or "left-wing" person would disapprove on principle, but since it's Obama allowing to happen it's "okay".....
Bullshit, there are plenty of ethical liberals to replace that Nazi, I suggest you guys find one and get behind him/her........

The president has a kill list. I believe you are refering to Bin Laden. The order to kill was a good one. He masterminded the killing of Americans, 911. Where would we give him a trial. In the US. Put him in Gitmo. Let Pakistan have him, where he would be released .Where is your pity on all the Americans killed? Assassinination to all the Americans is OK with you? I praise the president to have the guts to rid the world of this madman .Americans danced in the streets. Refering to our president as a Nazi is not the American way.

I think that in order to make a judgement in regard to this, I need to know what jury info was being distributed and to whom it was being distributed. Impaneled juries are not allowed to listen to the radio , watch tv or read the newspaper, much less accept handouts from strangers who may be trying to influence the jury. Was this the Casey Anthony trial? This judge was the judge for that trial. What are the actual circumstances here? There is no explanation. No where, when , why or how- the basic rudiments of a story that one needs to make an intelligent decision. Please clarify.

Sorry, but I do not consider jury tampering inconsequential. And if you read my comment more closely you will realize that I am neither defending the article, nor attacking it. There is not enough information included in the atricle to make an intelligent judement one way or the other. If someone is going to publish a thread here , they have the resposibility to provide the full story , not to just make blanket statements with no background information. I don't much care for jumping to conclusions without the necessary details.

I am going to call this guy and ask him where does he get off putting people away for speaking their mind? This is absolutely crazy. You can't educate people in a traditional public forum when the supreme court has ruled that you can!!!! The word TYRANT springs to mind here.
