This article via Alternet from Truthout.org's Mike Lofgren sums it up nicely. Since the Current community is at least attempting to be educated voters. It lays out all the questions and gives insightful opionions of why things are the way they are in politics and why they keep staying the same.

    • Okay so the author spent thirty years in Washington as a Republican, pushing this agenda along. I appreciate the heads up, most of which, while unable to put a definitive finger on it, was pretty much known. Simply writing an article about it does not absolve the damage that he had to have helped make successful over his career. It's simply not enough. Want to help? Give us more to work with. Spill names, secrets, something other than outlining their very effective plan to make government appear useless as a subversion tactic. From what the climate looks like today, it may already be too late.

    • The problem with our representative democracy..... Is that it's a REPRESENTATIVE democracy.

We don't have a say, the show is over, move along, and pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...

So I'm going to vote for someone, who is supposed to represent me in all the decisions that effect me, and hope the lobbyists who write the laws, amendments, legislation, whatever for said representative has my best interests in mind....

(note I didn't even get to elect the lobbyists how is that fair?)

Even if the process that goes into "electing" these puppets of our corporate overlords were legitimate, the politicians don't represent the will of the people (brainwashed ignorant sheeple don't count, their will is play-doh), and campaign finance laws in their current state will have us forever at the will of the corporations....

There is no democracy in this country.... There is no sound argument which fully examines the myriad ways it's corrupted, that can say we live in a democracy....

We all might as well be voting for one of the douches from the "Jersey Shore".....

And don't even tell me, any of these ass-clowns, even Ron Paul for that matter gives a flying fuck about any of us, they don't, were chattel property of the corporations as far as they're all concerned and even Barry Soetoro (which is his legal name according to Indonesian legal documents) doesn't give two shits about any of us....

Oh and both sides do so much of the same shit, there's little sense in pointing out one negative one party might do that the other hasn't picked up and itself used yet....

    • Great article but very depressing. It just proves what most of us already know--that this country is fast becoming a idiocracy, theocracy and, of course, going very fast toward fascism.

    • I have read this article several times and, after some thought I have a question to put forward to the Current community.

Given that the Republicans have gone stark raving insane, and the Democrats are paralyzed by fear, is it time for a third party - and where would that party be aligned on the political spectrum?

The Republicans have painted the Democrats as socialistic, and worse. The distrust of progressive policies (with the exception of single-payer health care) would seem to be at an all-time high.

The approval ratings of the Tea Party, and by extension the Republicans, are very low.

Would a new party, by virtue of these factors, be most likely to gain traction if it were seen as centrist? Or do you think that the need is for a more progressive stance?

I look forward to your thoughts on the matter.

    • I can sum it up this way.
You can fool some of the people most of the time and all of the people some of the time but you can fool uneducated or low educated people all of the time.
The people on Current, with the exception of a few tea baggin paid shills, have more on the ball than the whole conservative party as a whole.
We mus have more than a 3rd grade education I guess.

If you have read some of my other post here you would know that the arrogant drivel, as you call it, has been my calling card and it's true.
With the exception of a few tea baggin paid shills on this site the rest of us have been saying it for a while.
Time and time again I said we are turning into a fascist country and the Republican deep pockets have wanted it since their fathers and grandfathers saw it in action in the 30's and 40's in Europe.
So the ones who follow these deep pockets and their lies have an education of a 3rd grader as the rest of us on this site have a much higher education level.

The Republicans rallying cry on education is this,
"We spend too much money on Education".

They want the people in this country poor and uneducated to control easier. This is the same tactic they use in the middle east.

My education wasn't wasted for one thing. I'm not a Democrat but an Independent and I tend to vote for the one whom I think will do the better job. I never said that the dems were never in collusion with the GOP those Democrats are called Blue Dog Democrats That ran for office in liberal area's of their states but are Republican at heart.

I've worked on more local, state, and national elections, For both parties, than most people can count and have meet many people along the way. The one think that I found out is this, The average person will believe in a lie before the truth and will not research the whole story. This amounts to a 3rd grade education. I'm not the one that said it many politicians on both sides have said this but the Republicans are now using it to the max.
So for the so called Partisan Bullshit and not for argument sake as arguing is childish. I know what I'm saying and I understand what your saying. and as far as Reagan is concerned he was an asshole that started this mess. The Regan Democrats all realize their mistake but until everyone wakes up we are doomed to the will of the Corporations and the wealthiest in this country as their slaves. I urge you to read up on Fascist Europe during the 30's and 40's to see how it was accomplished especially in Germany. You may find that there is a similar thing happening in this country right now.

America is not headed towards Socialism but if it continues to go down the road it's going now with big money buying elections then Fascism will be here and then it's too late.

I love this question that was said to a politician once. How long will it take a private owner of a company that pays himself $50,000,000 a year for 30 years to spend that money when he retires?
The person that asked the question is a Republican union worker who is now unemployed collecting food stamps living in his in-law's house with his wife and 3 kids.
We all have a big problem.

If your wondering about my education I'm a high school grad that busted my ass to get 3 engineering certificates and I know more than many of the paper engineers that graduated college with degrees. I also worked with guys that never got past the 3rd grade and they were smart. they didn't believe the bull shit they knew how to research it for the truth.
