9/11: A Retrospective

In a little less than 10 years, President Obama announced that Osama Bin Laden was dead. His death closed the chapter on a horrific day in human history. This week will mark the tenth anniversary when terror from aboard reached America’s shore. This event- so surreal in its scope seemed just like a movie.

It was hard not to think about the people that you loved on that day. You found yourself reaching out to family, friends, and close neighbors that you haven’t contacted in years just to check if they were okay. On that day, we forgot about ourselves and thought about other people. In a sense- we were all a little more humane that day. Fast forward to the present and it seems like we have forgotten about the lessons we learned that day. We replaced it with fear, doubt, and cynicism-we reversed back to the people we were before 9/11.

Are you saying that we were more fearful in 2000? More doubtful? -- not my recollection at all. In fact I was totally confident that I would not get x-rayed and anal probed to catch a plane.

I'll give you the cynical, though.
