I think this is worth reading for anyone who has opinions on SS and Medicare. Pay especially close attention to Section 1: MESSAGE TO CONGRESS REVIEWING THE BROAD OBJECTIVES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE ADMINISTRATION. JUNE 8, 1934.
He and others knew full well that America was not immune to the unrest that began to plague Europe in the 20's and they wanted to make sure it did not happen here. Now the rethuglicans want to take it all away, but they haven't given us a plan to avoid the unrest and potential violence that FDR saw coming.
Do they have a plan? Probably, and I have no doubt that it includes using the military. May work for a while, but the military draws its members from the same pool of disenfranchised people. Eventually, they will switch sides, instead of killing their own.
