What a great concept, not making the countries citizens responsible for the acts of a few bankers. Now if we could only learn that lesson here.

The truth? The truth would require the President telling us that the system is broken our elected members of Congress and the Senate no longer represent the people. He would have to tell the truth, which is they have all been bought lock, stock and barrel by the special interests lobbyists for the biggest corporations that pollute our enviornment and export our jobs for profit. They represent the uber rich who wish to pay less and take more. That those elected do nothing without consideration to their own survival and how it impacts their chance for re election. So they stand with the money leaving the average person behind. That is the truth. Does President Obama have to courage to tell that truth to his fellow United States citizens? I highly doubt it!! The system is corrupt, broken and the only way to fix it is destroy it through peaceful national stoppage of all economic activity. No shopping, no going to work, no paying bills. Just grind the whole system to a complete halt, that's the peaceful way to send the message, we've had enough!!

The truth is out there, just not in MediaCorp. There was also a blood revolution in Mauratania a couple years ago and the only way you could find out about it is to read Le Monde...in french. The press is too interested in trash news.

Iceland has the population of a small American city. Their GDP is less than American spending in a day. Attempting to do what Iceland did in the US would be like comparing a Prius to a Ferrari. Iceland's largest business generates 6B in revenue. It's fourth largest business only generates 280M in revenue.

And what is unspoken in the response, and the problem I have always had with European socialists countries, is the fact they have little or no cultural/minority issues. There is no doubt, the U.S. has underachieved in social programs, but I couldn't be prouder of this nation. As much as racism still exists, America is the first nation that has been successful in resolving race and ethnic issues on many levels. And thus even though there are nations that are more progressive than the U.S., America's pledge to equality for all, will make for a lasting progressivism.
This does not mean America shouldn't aspire for prosperity like that in Iceland. After all, Iceland's success directly refutes a basic tenet/lie of the capitalist. They have demonstrated that national prosperity can be achieved based on individuals valuing productivity over self-interest.

"America is the first nation that has been successful in resolving race and ethnic issues on many levels" Huh?
America has dealt with it race issues on paper but not in real life. A quick trip south of the Mason Dixon line will show that.
"After all, Iceland's success directly refutes a basic tenet/lie of the capitalist. They have demonstrated that national prosperity can be achieved based on individuals valuing productivity over self-interest."
IMO what Icelanders are undertaking IS capitalism, at least what it was intended to be. What most people today see as capitalism is, in effect, socialism for the rich. Also I would argue that rationale self interest in the survival of their nation as a sovereign power more than national prosperity that is motivating factor behind the desire for change there.

This , is a tale that gives me so much hope . An empowered , courageous populace would be a threat to the financial elite , and they would deny us this tale .

What we are witnessing is the rebirth of the concept "we the people" instead of "we the Corporations" Iceland is showing that they don't need nor want international "help" which will turn them into slaves for the wealthy elite. I love the fact that they simply chose some highly recommended citizens to write their constitution, which if you think about it, was exactly the way our Constitution was written. I
Iceland is being reborn the way America was after the revolution. Instead of fighting off foreign armies, they are fighting foreign bankers, and it's the PEOPLE who are doing it, not some politician sucking the dick of the corporation(s) financing his re-election campaign. GO ICELAND!!

It also helps that they have a small but potent degree of geothermal energy , that makes them just a bit MORE independent .

I've been aware of this for some time now. Tiny Iceland broke the will of the international banksters, but the rest of us cower in fear.

The last thing corporate media in the Western world wants is to give people a blueprint to fight back.......and an example of what mild success looks like.
