Keep Your Money Close

I closed my checking and savings accounts today, because I heard that Bank of America foreclosed on a Florida couple who did not even have a mortgage loan through B of A. When this couple sued you and won, your company stiff-armed them and refused to pay the court judgment. The couple then foreclosed upon one of your branches in an attempt to recover the judgment and their costs.
When I think about how stupid someone would have to be to foreclose on someone who does not have a mortgage loan, it boggles the mind. Not only is it indicative of appalling ignorance and lack of true customer service ethics, it is a clear sign that your company is being run by criminals.
When I went into the branch today to close my accounts, I heard that you have now decided to close the local branch in order to save money; no doubt, you need to save that money because of the way you have been pissing away cash by financing bogus mortgages. Now the decent and friendly people at my local branch who have been serving this community for up to 20 years will soon be looking for work rather than having to drive many miles to work at the nearest remaining branch. I commiserated with them and wished them all well. They have been loyal to your company and to people like me for years, and they are being shafted by snot-nosed crooks (probably with freshly-minted MBAs) in the higher echelons of your criminal enterprise.
I took my cash and went home only to see that your dumber-than-a-box-of-rocks online banking system had sent me an email stating that my account was now empty and had fallen below the minimum $25 balance. Amazing deduction, Sherlock! I closed the account!
I am now sorry I ever allowed myself to associate with your company, for it enabled people of no character to conduct business with my cash, which, you can bet, you will never see again. I will tell everyone I know of my experience and urge them to put their money in reputable institutions which do not attempt to extort money from innocent victims.

I am so sad to hear that you're underwater. I was lucky enough to be too poor to afford a mortgage back when prices were skyrocketing. Maybe you can wait it out (I hope.)

I had a credit card issued by Bank of America years ago. I do not remember what happened but I canceled the card and swore that I would never directly do business with Bank of America again.
To this day I have not used B of A for anything and I cannot see me doing business with them in the future.

Add Chase (JP Morgan)... they're just as bad if not worse. Closed my account with them last year and refuse to do business with them in the future.
Unfortunately, from what my lender has told me, JP Morgan Chase and Bank of America are two of the only banks buying mortgages. So when I requested that my mortgage not be sold to Chase, I was told that it would then most likely go to Bank of America.... fucked either way....

I get that. They've monopolized the mortgage market by buying politicians. We can (and should) fight back by creating official (and unofficial) community banks where local people pool their monies and lend each other money at reasonable rates of interest. If institutions can loan money to poor folks in third world countries, we can certainly do that here.
The current crop of "big" banks is nothing more or less than an organized gambling cartel which has stolen trillions. Starve them out and watch them wither and die.

If I had a mortgage through them, I would find out who are the executive officers of the institutions, and I would file a civil damages lawsuit against each of them personally. In fact, I wish mortgage holders would organize and file a class action suit against those who have taken our money offshore. The money did not vanish- it has been squirreled away in numerous accounts worldwide; it us being used in other countries to fund economic development where cheap labor is available; it is in Swiss bank accounts; it is in the coffers of large corporations who have no intention of hiring workers at living wages.
A peaceful tsunami of revolution has to sweep through the world economy, washing the cash back into the hands of those who worked for it.

Bank at credit unions-they did not get caught in the meltdown in2008. Also-get your credit card there too. They charge a little less interest that the leg breakers like Citi bank et al.

Excellent; something's in the works re a huge lawsuit coming to visit B of A, plus a couple of indictments. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of criminals.

My government agency did travel accounts with BofA and BofA lost the personal information of many of my co-worker overseas. Now they no longer go through BofA.
Funny how mortgage companies can't locate or send mail to the homes that they finance. The last time I refinanced my home the mortgage company demanded that I give them my home address because they cannot enter a post box number into their system. I told them that the postal service does not deliver to homes in my town and that they needed to put the post office box on the envelope. Every month I would call them for information... how much do I owe?... where do I send the check?... why haven't they mailed the bills as promised?
After nearly two years of calling I got a receptionist that knew what I was talking about. Finally, I was able to read their mail. I found that the mortgage company had given me a much better rate than expected, but all of that better rate was negated by monthly late charges because I was sending the payment on the first when they were due at the end of the month. How could I know?
A tip that might help those who have problems with companies that refuse a PO Box - try using a nine-digit zip code.

I closed my B of A account 17 years ago. They were criminal back then with posting checks in order to create an overdraft by adding fees at an opportune moment. Oregon tried to start a state bank this year but it failed to get enough attention in the state legislature. It did make it through the committees and may have a real chance next year. It would follow the model of North Dakota.
I applaud your direct action Progresshiv. I am considering the same with my local bank which recently joined up with some large French Bank that had ties to predatory lending.

Good for you. Bank of America is indeed a criminal enterprise. I had a credit card with them years ago. Never again. They are loan sharks. Matter of fact I have no credit cards at all. Done with these criminal banks on the whole. Local community banks and credit unions are the way to go or just cash any checks locally and stash your money away. Anything besides letting them get their greedy blood and oil soaked hands on it. Just to relay, I went into my local Bunk of America branch a couple years ago to hand the platform person a flyer about their involvement in mountaintop removal. She took it, smiled, nodded, said she'd pass it on, then proceeded to throw it out as I walked away. Real nice people. BTW, thanks for the e-mail address.

Most local Credit Unions are safe, honest, and treat their customers with courtesy and respect. In my eyes, its the only way to bank! The word LOCAL should be the clue as to why! They support the community and the people in it. The word UNION means strength in numbers! A larger membership means more funds for investments in the community. For those who don't use Credit Unions because they hate the thought of doing anything that involves the word Union, please keep dealing with BOA and the rest of the crooks! They love taking your money and fucking you as you hand it to them!

we have a regional bank. i overheard the pres. of the bank say right before the crash that the regional banks would be catching the flack the hardest because of what the big guys were doing...truer words have not been spoken....just this month this same bank has stopped "offereing" free checking which I have had for ten years...now I have an account that costs 5$ a month, can only write ten checks and forces me to use debit. the other choices were worse and cost more. the kicker is forcing people to use debit cards to avoid a fee...wtf! we closed my account and use hubbies as a joint acct. we are poor. I refuse to give 10% to some check cashing place...it is getting worse and worse....I like my regional and the folks that work there and I understand the big boys passed laws that are crushing them and putting their smaller rivals out of business. I don't begrudge the 5 but...when will it get to where they raise it to high and ban cash altogether?

A similar thing happened in Minnesota too. They couldn't foreclose on the banch but they could put a lean on property. They walked in with police officers and the local TV news team. They were only due about 5000$ but they could choose what to take. Rather than taking cash they settled for all their pens, telephones and office chairs.
IIRC they had a cashiers check in hand in something like an hour.

Great question. Usually local or regional credit unions are worthy of more trust than large banks: the credit unions' customers own the business, the employees live and work in the same town as the customers, and the organization is not beholden to corporate shareholders in other cities or countries.

I shared this story earlier on another post months ago because it can not be repeated too often.
My step daughter had an account with Skank of America. She went into the bank to get $200 in the local branch here on Staten Island. I waited for her in the car and when she got back into the car, I asked her if she had counted her money. She had not. She is young, so I just wanted to teach her that she should always count money during any transaction. I did not expect it to be wrong.
We counted it twice and it was $180. I have never worked in a bank, but I am a professional in my community so, figuring that the bank would give her a hard time about leaving the bank and then coming back in to say they shorted her, I went back in with her. We went to the teller that my step daughter saw and she told her that she only received 180 instead of 200 dollars. To my shock, without a moment's hesitation, the teller pulled out a twenty dollar bill, handed it to my step daughter. Then mumbled an apology.
As we walked out, I looked at my step daughter and said, "That teller has been doing this to everyone all morning."
It was deliberate. When I worked at Burger King as a teenager, if someone said I had short changed them and I knew I didn't, I would have the manager tally my drawer in front of the customer.
I do know know whether the teller was acting alone or bank management was involved, but it was deliberate short changing. The fact that there are cameras every where led me to believe that the teller was not acting alone or very stupid. However, the fact that a teller could get away with that indicated that there was a serious problem with that bank.
Good for you, Progresshiv! I do no business with them and had my step daughter close her account too before all of this foreclosure insanity.
