Some years ago, a minor spat ignited a searing flame war that threatened to consume a once placid forum.....A tribute to a very, very funny site that recently lost its domain name. All images and words appear to be the property of Mike Reed. Give the man a major shout out!!!
A community member, remanns, posted a link to the site many, many moons ago. However, the site is worthy of a second gander. But unfortunately, the only way to do so is through an internet archive.
Here is the thread. I have been posting warriors on it.

Flame Warriors *Untie!
They, for the most part, cannot survive without the use of anonymity to spew the naplam-like vitroil they love to shoot out of their pie-holes! Or the use of this "internet ink upon intertube paper!
Anonymonity.....we can't stand it from others, yet we cherish the fact it's at our disposal to use!
The arguments made, both pro and con, is worthy of our debate. As what is taking place now on this thread.
Me? I would like to live in a world that valued freedoms of thought AND speech.
So far, all we have to fear from the "police of intolerance" is the exercising our inalienable right to free speech...in so far as a particular site will permit the use of it. Which in itself is a paradox, since that's what keeps moderators busy screening individual comments posted on their boards.
But we sure will be in a world of hurt if those in authority can devise a way to read our minds!
Fahrenheit version 451.2.0...they're coming to take us away, ha, ha, he, he, ho, ho! To the reconditioning camps for our reindoctrination to be permitted back into what those in power would deem an acceptable society made up of acceptable automaton citizens.
}8^D
P.S. I really like the statement made by Zinnia Jones about "astro-turfers"!
Remind anyone of some people here?"I have been coming here to this site for a lot longer than you and YOU'RE not welcome here anymore, Go, scram, shoo..begone from MY site!", says the longtime flame-chucker.

But doesn't that make as much sense as "Selling your soul to Santa" or "Sitting on Satan's lap and asking for Xmas presents?" it only reinforces the stereotypes of the Flame Warriors.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-mE1ScD64Q
As Castle pointed out, "it's just way too meta" it only strengthens the attachment to the emotional baggage instead of helping people let go of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKmQW7JTb6s
After all it's not only about freedom of speech since with that comes the responsibility to use it wisely and not fall into the traps of others or your own neuroses.

What makes sense to me is if I were to take my little soapbox to the town square, stand on it and rant, spit and cuss about ANYTHING I WISH...and if the "listeners" do not appreciate my opinions, why...they have rotten vegetabels they can chuck at me, right?
Or...wait until I'm done and climb on it and speak THEIR MIND!
So, what we have HERE is a 2.0, 21st Century version of a soapbox.
The difference is, we can't chuck rotten veggies at the person we disagree with.

The trouble with that is not all trolls are as cute and cuddly like the BooBoo Bear that Bailey is.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/nationnow/2011/08/fatal-bear-attack-in-yellowsto...
"Wallace is the second person to die of a bear attack in the park this summer. In July, a female bear attacked and killed a 57-year-old Torrance man."
At lot more trolls are like the bears at Yellowstone and people feed them at their peril. They may think it's amusing to play with them for a while, but when the trolls metaphorically rip their arms off like bears do literally, they won't think it's so funny anymore.
Ufortunately as many that learn to avoid feeding the trolls and resist their desperate pleas for attention, they are replaced by noobs that haven't gotten the hint yet, so that continues the cycle just like the bear attacks.

Again and again and againEven as Weird Al illusitrated, some people focus on the power and the rights but hardly ever acknowledge the responsibilities that go wih them even when it is pointed out again and again. It's a shame that "noblesse oblige" is just a foreign concept to some.

My fellow associates appeared to have too much fun arguing with me KNOWING it was my "duty" to defend issues contrary to my personal beliefs, ideals, morals or political bent! I got pretty good at defending the indefensible,
However, in doing so, I learned to look for pros and cons, vices and virtues on subject matters I either show support for or abstain from.

Oh, Boy! I'm not a stranger to mike Reed's flame warriors ( I used some of his images when I had my little blip of a war) I thought some humor would be helpful...anyway, I think that we at least have been one or more of these warriors at one point or another. So like I did long ago at my blog I ask you, which of these warriors have you been?
Without a doubt I started off as the Duelists:
In a perpetual personal feud, Duelists generally don't menace anyone but each other, unless, of course, another Warrior foolishly gets between them. They may not even remember what started the fight, but not they cordially loathe one another and seize every to go at each other. When the other Warriors eventually weary of their endless kvetching the Duelists will be shouted down or Nanny will ban them. Even after getting the heave-ho from one forum, however, it is not unusual for them to seeking each other in other forums to renew their fight. - 1 year ago

The most common variants of Ideologue are conservative and liberal. Smug and self satisfied in their certitudes, Ideologue's opinions are merely a loose collection of intellectual conceits, and he/she is genuinely astonished, bewildered and and indignant that his views are not universally embraced as the Truth. He regards the opposing point of view as a form of cognitive dissonance whose only cure is relentless propagandizing and browbeating. The conservative iteration of Ideologue parades himself as a logical, clear thinker, while the liberal version trumpets his higher level of mental, spiritual and social awareness. Troglodyte is the natural ally of conservative Ideologue, and for liberal Ideologue it is Weenie. Ideologue is a fierce, but very predictable Warrior..

Unlike Profundus Maximus, Philosopher can actually be quite knowledgeable on a variety of subjects. Somewhat humorless and aloof, he is also slow to anger, and when he deigns to join in the fray he is considerate of other opinions. His fighting tactics are direct and uncomplicated - he smothers the opposition with his ponderous and lengthy cogitations. Only the strongest and most patient Warriors can survive an extended battle with Philosopher.

Ferrous Cranus is utterly impervious to reason, persuasion and new ideas, and when engaged in battle he will not yield an inch in his position regardless of its hopelessness. Though his thrusts are decisively repulsed, his arguments crushed in every detail and his defenses demolished beyond repair he will remount the same attack again and again with only the slightest variation in tactics. Sometimes out of pure frustration Philosopher will try to explain to him the failed logistics of his situation, or Therapist will attempt to penetrate the psychological origins of his obduracy, but, ever unfathomable, Ferrous Cranus cannot be moved.

In bygone days Ents roamed an internet paradise of purposeful forums, but in recent times Ents have grown quiet. Indeed, Ents are so rarely heard from these days that netizens have begun to doubt that they ever existed. Being privy to the secrets of the ancients Ents are an extremely powerful Warriors, and are all the more so because of the veneration in which they are held. Warriors who chop and burn an Ent in battle will not earn glory, but will instead incite the enmity of the entire forum.

Artful Dodger is a nimble and elusive Warrior. When strongly attacked he changes the subject with a diversionary counterattack. For example, if in a moment of pique his opponent refers to him to him as a "sonofabitch", Artful Dodger will not only demand a public apology for the insult to his own mother, but will castigate his opponent on behalf all mothers everywhere. Knowing full well that staying on topic works to his disadvantage, Artful Dodger will not allow himself to be pinned down.

ALLCAPS attempts to compensate for his limited rhetorical weaponry through the extravagant use of capitalized words - something netizens refer to as SHOUTING. Sure, a sprinkling of capitalized words can add some zip to a thrust, but they should be used sparingly. Even worse from a tactical point of view, too much shouting alerts other Warriors to the opponent's verbal WEAKNESS and emotional EXCITABILITY.

They'll drag around their emotional baggage wherever they go and it distorts their perceptions of every topic. That is the reason a "few personal vendettas carried over from Huffington Post." because the same baggage was transfered.
Until they can let go of that load of neuroses and metaphorically put the baggage in storage they will continue to "react subconsciously with the worst parts of themselves instead of being able to creatively express the best."

That HP baggage is easy to put away once it is realized that problem was a really "site issue" at HP; everything from the excessive censorship, annoying word filters, comments that can be held up for hours, holding up dialogues for no good reason.
HP also has a small clique of aggressive bullies (some of them armed with deletion privileges), who have the support of HP Moderation to do whatever they please, which is a bit disturbing, and has made it a hotbed for trouble, at times.
It is also noteworthy to mention that very few HP posters ever get the courtesy of response from HP Moderation, and there are many unexplained bannings so the frustrations are, often, very high. Also, if one speaks out against HP Moderation with any harsh criticism one will be banned; I know this one from personal experience. I'm cool with that (even though I was banned 5 months *after* I left HP as TD with no explanation in writing from them, whatsoever). lol!
The fact that Current is a completely different dynamic in a much more free-flowing environment for comments -- which show up instantly -- with a lot less censorship is refreshing.
It's all in the past, and it's all good now.☺ A big personal "thank you" to the many wonderful Current members -- who have had the patience -- to endure the HP influx into your unique community.

"Many people have the tendency to take something innocent and harmless enough and just be so derisive about it."
Getting the quote in front of more people was just a suggestion since, I haven't found a way to successfully extend the message, but it does follow the fundamental idea.
While it's true they can pervert a meme into anything, it doesn't invalidate the primary principle of trying to create more positive outcomes, right?
Those would that "deride" and twist it would miss the idea anyway, so isn't the point to attempt reach those that would be receptive to it?
After all that is what "Why Hate? Just Create!" boils down to putting something into accomplishing something creative and not worrying about the detractors that try to impede any progress.

Cyber Sisters are an extremely fierce confederation of fighting females who act something like a shrill Greek chorus, echoing and amplifying one another's voice until their foes retreat in disarray. They are generally leaderless, but anyone who challenges one Cyber Sister can expect to be savagely attacked by the others. Only the most powerful and battle-hardened of Warriors is strong enough to weather a Cyber Sisters attack.

Weenie is a very sensitive guy, and it angers and saddens him that everyone isn't just as sensitive as he. An admitted male feminist, Weenie is ever vigilant against anti-progressive attitudes. Though he seldom comes into personal contact with the working classes, he keenly feels the pain of their oppression nonetheless . Weenie's chief antagonists are Troglodyte, Evil Clown, Capitalista and sometimes Ideologue. Because of his natural petulance Weenie can easily be goaded into battle, but he is encumbered by a tendency to throw temper tantrums when severely pressed.

Warriors often underestimate Toxic Granny's fighting abilities. She can be very aggressive, and because of the deference paid to the elderly, not only does Toxic Granny easily attract allies to aid in her defense, but her foes are reluctant to employ their strongest weapons against her. Prudent Warriors avoid confrontations with Toxic Granny because there is ignominy in defeat and no glory in victory.

Xenophobe is usually a long-term discussion forum participant and he thinks of the forum as his private compound. Xenophobe regards new forum arrivals as mentally deficient and perhaps even having criminal tendencies, and they are invariably approached with suspicion and condescension. Xenophobe will mount a furious attack if a Newbie has the temerity to make critical observations about the forum's social dynamics, or questions its prevailing opinions.

There was more of this native to c u r r e n t in previous times,.....but many of the old school homeboy Hatfields and McCoys have moved on or died.
Shucks,.....now I sort o' miss em,....every once in a while,....for a short time,.....but I actually do. You get used to stuff; like children yelling at each other who have all gone off to college,......to yell at their roommates or future spouses.

Indeed. The world is already filled with enough fear and loathing. Forums can be a positive experience, but they can easily amplify negative energy. Try not to take things personally. Most importantly, offer creativity instead of negativity.
I'll have to check it out....thanks.

Although sometimes a male, Crybaby is usually a female, and often a close ally of Innocence Abused. When teased or attacked Crybaby will pitch a loud public temper tantrum, holding her breath and kicking her feet. If that defense fails she will run to Nanny for comfort.

Nanny tirelessly monitors forum discussions to make sure that everyone behaves. Though he is quick to admonish for off-topic messages and petty squabbling, he is generally slow to anger. Rather than wading into pitched battles, Nanny simply pulling the plug on combatants and bans repeat offenders.Weaker Warriors such as Innocence Abused, Weenie and Crybaby will run to Nanny for protection in the midst of battle.

Issues has an issue and she won't rest until it becomes your issue, too. Even when she's not talking about her issue it's clear she would rather be talking about her issue. Something of a secular evangelist, he religion, her raison d'etre, her abiding passion is....well, her issue. Not exclusive to any ideological orientation, her issue could be the environment, abortion rights, raw foods, breast feeding, whatever. Her obsession, however, provides the key to defeating her in battle; she can't tolerate indifference, so if her thrusts are simply ignored she will rage, accuse, condemn, plead and finally, go away.

. . . but if you use a more Chinese model with 5 elements -you have "Wood",....which I think must be a hermaphrodite,....or neuter,.....not sure.( but yes , that sort of thing,....binary division and all that -EVERYTHING in two camps,.....I'm sure someone has a nicely thought through broken down list out there . I might try to dig one up I like. I think I prefer thinking in terms of trinities myself,.....it boggles the opposition ! )

lol Yeah, I think wood would be a hermaphrodite. Now that I'm thinking about it, the Chinese model consists of air, water, wood, metal and fire; they don't have earth on their list. I'd assume that would be because wood and metal come from earth and were considered it's most useful products, so (maybe) in their minds including earth as well would have been redundant.
Of the first group I listed I left out "spirit" because it doesn't have "gender". - 1 year ago

Capitalista is not always a wealthy fat cat; being a Capitalista is a state of mind rather than a reflection of affluence. A strident and extraordinarily self–satisfied Warrior, Capitalista takes every opportunity to extol the superiority of the free enterprise system and has a powerful aversion to the welfare states of Europe. Capitalista fiercely defends the market economy, bludgeoning “fuzzy-minded socialists” with Adam Smith, Milton Friedman and Friedrich Hayek. Though rather limited in his range of interests, Capitalista’s command of carefully selected historical facts, abstruse statistical comparisons and arcane economic theory make him a formidable foe.

Troller is looking for a response...ANY response, and he will chum the waters with complaints, insults, compliments, and inflammatory tidbits hoping that someone...ANYONE, will take the bait. Generally quite harmless - practices a form of catch and release. Nonetheless, he can upset the delicate ecology of a discussion forum. Once a forum becomes aware of his presence, however, all feeding activity ceases and Troller must move on to more promising waters.
