Your Brain On Politics: The Cognitive Neuroscience of Liberals and Conservatives

She blogs at The Rogue Neuron and tweets as @AndreaKuszewski.
Can neuroscience provide evidence for a liberal and conservative thinking style?
It may seem like a stretch to say that one could predict whether you lean left or right by looking at a brain scan—no questions asked, no opinions voiced—purely based on your neuroanatomy. However, this might not be too far from reality—at least insofar as predicting thinking style, which has been shown to be somewhat distinct based on party association.
Does brain structure determine your beliefs, or do your beliefs change your brain structure? What about those who switch parties at some point? How do they fit in to this model? We’ll be discussing all of this. It’s a complicated issue with lots of variables in play, so we’re going to take a pretty deep look into this topic from all angles, so we can draw the most accurate conclusions.
Please keep in mind from the beginning that this is not an endorsement of any one political party. This is science—we’ll just be discussing the data. Ready?

Republican's make decisions based on emotions. This makes a lot of sense.
For example, Mitt Romney is a candidate who has great experience in the private sector, he's turned around businesses to the positive, thus creating jobs. He definitely cares about health care, I mean "Obamacare" was modeled after something his home state employed.
Rick Perry, on the other hand, is just a puppet, with talking points and Balls.
The guy could contradict himself in every turn, but still get elected because of his personality and charisma. ...and that, my friends, is pretty F*cking sad.
It's a sad statement about the unthinking majority. - 9 months ago

Let's gel this down to a simple conclusion:
Cons: Fearful, easily threatened, selfish, thin skinned, easily led - thanks to their amygdalas...

Based on my observation of their behavior this seems to be completely true. I think it accurately describes the conservative voter base.
Liberals are much harder to fool, but they can also be misled. Just ask Obama. He's a master of manipulating liberals. We liberals are not totally off the hook. Just because we are inarguably more intelligent and contemplative than are the primitive-minded conservatives doesn't mean we can't be fooled too.

When I first began reading this post, I must admit, I began to get somewhat alarmed as to just what the long-term implications of this form of technology would bring. Used as a tool by either one side, whether Conservative or Liberal, the ability to detect the "thinking style" of an individual would lead to the virtual end of free-thinking and individuality. This too could be an extremely slippery slope!
In further reading of the full article, this independent review and summation of various research data does give us an interesting look at the "truth" behind what is driving both sides in our current gridlock of head-butting and "pissing to make your territory" style of governing and media coverage.
On one side, the liberal, exists a view based more on reasoning and logic than guided by emotional fears and desires. On the other, the conservative, there exist the view based a great deal more upon the emotions from past experience and the fear of free-thinking and individuality. In essence, the mind versus the heart.
Just look at the vast difference there now exists in Washington D.C. We have the Tea Party run Republicans, putting forth their emotional responses, plying upon the emotional reactions of the citizen in order to put their ideals and policies in place, basically to protect their own interest without the concern for the less fortunate.
On the other side of the isle we have the Democrats, waiting to respond, often times emotionally, plying upon the emotional side of the people, basically protecting their own interests while pretending to have the interests of the people at heart.
We only have the opportunity to see the True Liberal every once in great while, for there haven't really been that many politicians and leaders over the years that govern in a reasonable and logical style, constantly attempting to held the interests of the all the people in mind.
Although this article is somewhat misleading in implying a difference in thinking style between conservatives and liberals, it needs to be pointed out that not all are that which they would have us believe them to be. For instance, the late Blue Dog Democrats gave the impression that they were for the people's interests, yet they consistently sided with the Republicans on one issue after the other.
The Tea Party ran Republicans took control over the House and many state houses, promising to restore a balanced economy and civil freedom and liberties for all Americans. Thus far, they have shown how little concern they have for the plight of the common man, grandstanding and derailing any federal intervention that might stand any chance of giving relief to millions upon millions suffering.
There are the few, those that actually see their office as a civic duty and a heavy responsibility to make the choices which are right for the good of all. This person will try their best to find a good solution for all, often times overshadowed by those that lean towards emotional responses and actions based upon those very emotions.
Our very state of chaos and the dread of the unknown has been fueled by conservative thinking, wanting to keep everything in a state of status quo, unwilling to accept change and adaptation. Even though there does exist an overwhelming majority of more liberal thinkers in our society, many refuse to participate in the basics of Democracy itself.
Until such time as this fact changes, we are stuck with being governed/ruled by those driven by emotions and the desires to protect their own through fear.

Was the Reagan Revolution status quo thinking? Quite the opposite. The Conservatives represent the Oligarchy. The old $ or the new$,still the wealthy. There are far more Conservative Billionaires that Liberal Billionaires. The Conservative mindset is also unemphatic.Conservatives tend to donate less to their less fortunate brethren,or see philanthropy as a tax break,or good advertising. Bill & Melinda Gates philanthropy unmasked shows a predilection to actually partner with the likes of Monsanto, and other misanthropes ,who care less about solutions than profits. The mind of a Conservative seems very conflicted, hypocritical.

One could state that Ronald Reagan was, for much of his life, a Democrat. He attracted Democrats to the Republican Party, and that helped him defeat Carter in a close election.

Just listen to the Conservation mouthpieces, tune in anytime at the EIB network and hear how it is the Reagan Revolution that they do consider the status quo, for them. Cut taxes, slash regulations for major corporations, defund anything that would help out the less fortunate and start another war.
I would say it is more aptly name the Reagan DeEvolution!

Spock was a liberal. McCoy was a conservative.

Spock held up his open palm with a double V to conceal his emphasis-his only
concession to emotionalism. A true mature Scorpio. Because he was given to
peace by means of emotional self control. ( Helps to keep the body count down. )
As Theodore Roosevelt said, speak softly but carry a big stick. Spock had the
strength of several humans, and was much, much older, but he never flunted it. - 9 months ago

That more conservatives should try to be like McCoy. lol *~*
Actually, it's not so bad being Spock. This comes from wiki about people's reaction:
From early on, the public's reaction to Spock was strongly positive, even fanatical. To Nimoy's great surprise Spock became a sex symbol, and teenagers asked questions about current events such as the Vietnam War and LSD as if he were the Vulcan scientist.
