One snoozefest endorsing another. Can anyone say, "Pick me for VP!"?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WASHINGTON -- Tim Pawlenty, who dropped his bid for the presidency last month, threw his support behind Mitt Romney Monday morning, saying the former Massachusetts governor "possesses the unique qualifications to confront and master our severe economic predicament."
"President Obama has failed to meet America's economic challenges. ... Fortunately, America may get a second chance: Mitt Romney is running for president, and I am proud to endorse him," said Pawlenty in an email message sent out by the Romney campaign.
"[Romney] believes in the bedrock conservative ideals of limited government and free enterprise," he continued. "He will stand up for America's allies when they are threatened, with fortitude. And he will face down our adversaries. He is a formidable person, and he will certainly be a formidable president. Our allies can count on it, and our enemies should expect it."
"He's formulated an economic plan-a set of alternatives to the government-oriented programs that Barack Obama has put in place-that is unparalleled in the history of American electoral campaigns. By pressing for fundamental change in the way that Washington taxes and spends, issues regulations, uses energy, interacts with our major trading partners, and deals with our labor force, he fully envisions a way to place America back on the path toward rapid economic growth and full employment."
Pawlenty dropped out of the presidential race on Aug. 14 after coming in third in the Ames Straw Poll in Iowa. He criticized the health-care program passed in Massachusetts while Romney was governor, comparing it to President Obama's plan and calling it "Obamneycare." He was criticized by Republicans in June for backing down from aggressively confronting Romney during one of the debates.
Since dropping out, Pawlenty has given hints that he may endorse Romney, saying he believes the former governor could attract the support of "independents and conservative Democrats" in a general election.
Romney has also been picking up the support of key Pawlenty backers in recent weeks.
Appearing on Fox News Monday morning, Pawlenty cited the "depth and scope" of Romney's experience in the private sector.
He has also criticized Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), the frontrunner in recent polls, saying his position that Social Security is a "Ponzi scheme" is troublesome.
"Governor Romney wants to fix Social Security -- he doesn't want to abolish it or end it," Pawlenty said. "He doesn't believe it should be thrown out -- he thinks it should be reformed and fixed."
Responding to questions about his previous criticism of Romney's health-care program, Pawlenty said he talked to Romney about his concerns and came away reassured.
"Mitt Romney is 100 percent dedicated and committed to repealing Obamacare," Pawlenty said, citing Romney's pledge to grant the states waivers from the federal law.
Pawlenty will be a national co-chair of Romney's campaign. He told Fox News that he had no vice presidential aspirations.
    • If I was Mr. Romney I believe I would say thanks but no thanks. If Mr. Pawlenty had anything voters wanted he would not have dropped out of the race so quickly.
      Mitt: "Sold."
      *T Paw begins to walk out of room*
      Mitt: "Aren't we forgetting something?"
      *graphic log cabin sex scene*
      2 days later: T Paw: "...so I hereby endorse Mitt Romney for President."
      You have to admit..."ad" and "mit"....T-Paw may be fishing for a vice presidential job, since he's looking for employment and Mitt did say he is gooder than Perry at creating jobs that pay more than minimum wage! With benefits, too!
      LOL
      Oh, Pawlenty was running for VP from the begininng-that's why he quit so fast. But Romney won't pick him if he's the nominee, he'll pick a right wing looney from the south to 'balance" the ticket-as though there is any such thing as a balanced Rethuglican ticket.
    • I can see why there's a disconnect between Northern Republicans and their Southern brethren. For one, The Southern Style Republicans have a certain aura of manliness about them and they don't get along with men who appear weak, wishy-washy or not quite "republican" enough. Secondly, Southern State Republicans just downright don't trust them "elitist", educated "boys from up North". Even if they are card carrying, loyalty oath taking, pledge-signing, lapel pin Flag wearing, Reaganite Repubilcans!
      Besides, T-Paw more than likely has a "man crush" for Mitt. Not to mention Rick Perry probably didn't make one attempt to contact Pawlenty to ask for his support like Romney did. And Timmy might have been VERY impressed with the Willard "Mitt" Romney 3,000 Series Job Creating Machine that spits and spews as it squats and squirts jobs out of its keister faster than Superman changes his underwear! Those Elitist, Intelligentsia Illuminati ALWAYS fall for highfalutin thingamajobs other "out of the main stream" Republicans devise! And the fact that Mitt showed Tim his magical mystery underoos, too!
      But the most profound reason Tim "backs" Mitt? Because if you turn the letters T, I, and M bassackwards...they spell Mitt! Well, mostly!
      }8^)
      P.S. Oh yeah, I don't believe for one New York second that ANY Real Republican would ACTUALLY lend their support for keeping SS around if they had the chance to kill it. It's just a smokescreen Tim AND Sister Sarah are using to deflect the issue of privatizing SS in the end.. Don't believe a word they say! And as far as Sarah Palin is concerned, she wants to knock Perry off the stage when she decides to toss her hat into the ring!
      Benito and Adolph were a GIANT seismic jolt compared to a "MItt & Paw" tiniest blip on the Richter scale of earth shattering political events recorded for posterity. In the annals of time, Mitt and Tim won't even rate an asterisk in History books.
      What causes people to relate everything metaphorically to Hitler?
      Can we leave him buried in the past...where he belongs for all time? I am one of the BIGGEST supporters of free speech but I tend to agree with the German government's attempts to quash any mention of that evil subhuman.
      Anywho, isn't that treading on Republican territory by applying any concept in the use of respresentations of Hitler in any way, shape or fashion to compare someone a Hitler?
      Just wonderin'....
      I removed ALL references in using Hitler in any jokes I tell.
      And the reason is....there's NOTHING funny about that evil dude.
      Not one that I can think of.
      But, it's your "right", and I certainly wouldn't want to deny you of any one of them.
      Just don't expect me to laugh.
      Deal?
      Oh...and just think...if you lived in Germany, you could be arrested for posting even his name!
      Heil America!
      P.S. I DO use references to Nazis, though...and I WOULD BE SUBJECT FOR ARREST BY POSTING THIS PICTURE myself!
      Go figure.
