In recent years we've gotten used to being told than any match-up between two teams that have heard of each other is a "rivalry." Thank you, sports marketing weasels across the country. All these types of games fall roughly into seven categories (some fit into more than one), and here's a brief guide (with pictures and examples!) that will help the football fan sort out exactly which kind of rivalry is which (and which games aren't rivalries at all).
