Elizabeth Warren Puts the Kibosh on GOP's "Class Warfare": Nobody in This Country Got Rich on His Own"

I hear all this, you know, “Well, this is class warfare, this is whatever.”—No!
There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody.
You built a factory out there—good for you! But I want to be clear.
You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for.
You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate.
You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for.
You didn’t have to worry that maurauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did.
Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea—God bless. Keep a big hunk of it.
But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.

Ron Paul, Rick Perry and other rightwingers want to turn the clock back to 1900. What was life like then?? http://www.alternet.org/story/152397/ron_paul%2C_rick_perry_and_other_right_wing...
In 1900, the American South was essentially run by a religious fundamentalist terrorist faction that perpetrated untold murders with impunity. Women were deprived of individual rights and therefore limited to the chattel position to which the Bible conscripts them. Children worked in factories, where they were often severely injured or worse. In short, 1900 was a time of Dickensian squalor in America. As for disaster relief in that year, Melissa Harris-Perry reminded MSNBC viewers that “somewhere between 6,000 and 12,000 people died in the Galveston hurricane – so many bodies that people couldn’t bury them all. Barrels of whisky were handed out to dull the horror of the funeral pyres that burned across the city for weeks on end. That seemed to be the extent that the government could respond, to dull your pain with some free liquor. ‘Sorry, we can’t do more.’”

What a sweet breathe of fresh air! Miss Elizabeth if ever you are in Northwest Alabama I would be proud for you to sup with us and shelter in our house. Thank you for the common sense outlook on what has and is happening in our country. It is no wonder the republicans, conservatives, and teabaggers are so afraid of you, you seem to speak for those of us who cannot get control of the airwaves. Thank You.

You moved the good you made on the roads you paid taxes to support or build.
You hired workers you paid taxes, corporate and personal to educate or you paid to educate them to perform the tasks unique to their job.
You were safe in your factory because of police and fire department you paid taxes for along with the security personel you pad for as well as the alarm companies you paid for.
Building a company or factory with your invesement, vision and drive does not automatically entitle the rest of the world to a piece of the pie. The underlying social contract is to pay your workers fairly, don't leave the environment worse than you found it. In other words, treat others the way you would want to be treated. You fiduciary responsibility does not extend to the entire world simply because they exist.
Ms. Warren is incorrect. Fair taxation is everyone paying taxes, not a system which allows half to pay no income tax and the other half to carry them. The "eat the rich" mentality IS class warfare. The Senate does not need another one of these and we certainly don't need another in the White House. - 8 months ago

Paratus you're amazing only because you never ever seem to get it. First, the half paying no federal income tax are not doing so BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO MONEY!! Really dude how many times do you have to be told this before you hear it? You're talking about a percentage of the population that has so little that they don't even show up on the IRS tax radar screen. These are people with lousy paying jobs, no jobs, single mothers. etc. You can't get blood from a stone. That said these people DO PAY state taxes, sales taxes, meals taxes etc.
Your comment: "You[r] fiduciary responsibility does not extend to the entire world simply because they exist." Warren didn't say it extended to the "entire world" she said it extended to US taxpayers and future generations i.e. our country. You are able to build and maintain your factory it's because my tax dollars have built and maintain infrastructure for you to do so. And PLEASE don't tell me that the payback is that business pays taxes too. Fact is, many of them don't, you know it and I know it. Second US businesses couldn't by themselves generate enough tax revenue to maintain the infrastructure that supports their success. Whether they admit it or not, they need us.
What US corporations have lost is the fundamental understanding is that my success and their success are woven together. If I lose they lose.
Simply put, don't place an unfair burden of taxes on the farmer that provides food for your workers.

Makes no matter which segment Warren was referring to, world, universe or the U.S. the comment remains the same but since it is important to you I will re-write it to read, "Your fiduciary responsibility does not extend to the entire country simply because they exist." My apologies for your confusion.
Mark, you are amazing only because you never seem to get it. Really dude how many times do you have to be told this before you hear it?
I cannot comment on the taxable income of the 47% in this country not the world who do not pay taxes. Even so, "fair taxation" is everyone paying taxes. The same percentage should be applicable to everyone. Would you care to comment on refundable credits?YOur third paragraph is just another soak the people who have income mantra. Businessess pay gas tax for their delivery vehicles, property taxes on the real estate, personal property taxes on their assets (something individuals do not pay). They employ people who are able to pay taxes. The infrastructure that supports their success, roads, police, fire, water, sewer etc they all pay for and these benefits also innure to the 47% who pay no tax.
Your last senetece is my feeling exactly. Don't penalize the producers.

Everyone does pay taxes. You are a CPA, quit feigning ignorance.
The problem is that the rich pay far fewer than everyone else.
Poor pay way more on sales tax per dollar of income, way more in social security tax, any taxable wage income for a wage earner (the poorer the more likely) is likely taxed at a higher rate than cap gains.
The problem is, and you would know this if you looked at the numbers, as a proportion of income, the poor and middle class pay WAYYYY more in taxes than the wealthy.
You, of all people, should be informed about that. You'd have to be willfully ignorant not to.

Everyone does pay tax but what tax are you talking about? Quit being, not feigning, ignorant. There are a myriad of taxes. Stop trying to be so superior, it doesn't suit you. 47% of the people pay no federal income tax. They are carried by the rest.
Now you want to talk about capital gains. For your information, the capital assets that are taxed at the capital gain rate are purchased, in most cases, with after income tax dollars. So if a person pays 35% tax and then aquires a capital asset he does so with after tax money. This asset is then taxed at 15% on the sale. This is not income tax. It also applies to everyone who buys a capital asset, yes Virginia, everyone. You guys have got to settel down and do some thinking. These posts are not long enough to have a detailed tax lesson on all taxes affecting taxpayers. You are flitting around like a moth.
Is it your contention that everyone in that 47% group receives refunds amounting to all taxes paid: cell phone, gas, sales, property, etc.? Businesses pay taxes that support the infrastructure you all wanted to speak of. Everyone benefits from this not just the business. For you to say that businesses take and take but never give shows either your profound lack of grasp of reality or your are ignoring the facts. You guys talk out of both sides of your mouth when it is convenient and know absolutely nothing about what you speak. Oh, I don't think that any amount the "rich" pay will be enough for you. Frankly this line of reasoning liberals use is tired and blatently a lie. - 8 months ago

Everyone does pay tax but what tax are you talking about? There are a myriad of taxes... 47% of the people pay no federal income tax. They are carried by the rest."
So they may pay more per dollar of income in other taxes, but because it isn't the same amount in income taxes it doesn't count and they are carried? That doesn't make sense. If you want to calculate a good number, it would be "comprehensive effective tax rate."
That includes sales taxes paid, gas taxes paid, estate, income and fee payments for use of government services. Add it all up and I bet you get a number that supports my argument.
"Quit being, not feigning, ignorant."
I don't claim to know everything, but at the very least I don't self contradict.
The capital gains are taxed AFTER BASIS IS CALCULATED. The tax doesn't even hit until after someone has made all of their after tax income back... if they don't, they can use the loss to write off other taxes. It's called capital GAINS tax, not capital sales tax.
You knew that, but decided to strategically leave it out. Feigning ignorance about something you know which is a detriment to your argument is not good dialectic procedure, it is partisan hackery.

That is a good point and in another example from the literature of those that subscribe to the selfish view of wealth
Even John Galt couldn't do it alone, for one thing he had to persuade others to join his "strike" and even then others as you say still had to "make the bricks and materials, build the building, design, create and deliver the products."
The sad fact that is always missed in their arrogance is that even genius and those with the most crerative ideas can be replaced just as the Titans were replaced by Zeus and others on Mt. Olympus.

That is EXACTLY what is needed without the sarcasm because experience hasn't been any indication of competence. Senator DeMint has a lot of experience but still comes up with stupidity. Even when they use the excuse "Not Intended to be a Factual Statement" it doesn't make it any better.
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2010/jun/17/jim-demint/demint...
So raising the intelligence of the Senate can only help it to be more effective by getting someone that has studied the subjects more instead of relying on the people they've connected with on the job.
Given your track record on mistaken conclusions so far, maybe you should consider being sarcastic more often since it seems to help improve your accuracy

Ya know, jim_b, it's sorta weird how the right grumbles about beltway insiders, career politicians, and the like, while the R side of the aisle in both houses of congress is pretty well full if it, err, them, those career insiders. And there are one or two well educated Rs in there too, with some mighty fine parchment from some mighty elite schools. Ner' a word from the right about those pols! Only if they have a D after their names on ballots is there an outcry.
So, here we have Ms. Warren who is not a lifelong career pol, a woman really of and for the people, she should be hearlded as a great candidate by the Rs if they ever meant what they said! But nope, they don't like her either.
Gotta be the D they object to cuz they vote for what they whine about all the time, so long as there's an R involved.

This is clasic liberal. Scott Brown is far removed from the Tea Party. There are many votes he has ticked off the right. The Tea Party has considered finding a better candidate. But, in Massachusetts a moderate Republican is as good as it's going to get. The Tea Party has to consider he took the place of an uber liberal. Liberals think everything to the right of liberalism is conservative.

Classic neo con clap trap. Since there is no tea bagger party -only the extreme right wing of the Rehtuglican party , your entire premise is falacious from the start. But since you don't care about the veracity of your statements and only make them for the sake of anatagonizing people and not for purposes of accuracy, it's fairly irrelevant. Subtlety is hardly your strong point but transparency? You right wingers have the market cornered on that. Now is the point where you pull out one of the rules for conservatives battling liberals. Which one will you use today?
1) Conservatives are good, you are bad.
2) Conservatives are right, you are wrong.
3) Conservatives are sane , you are not.
4) Conservatives are humble, you are arrogant.
5) Conservatives understand humor, you do not.
6) Conservatives tell the truth, you can't handle the truth.
7) Conservatives know all about you, you know nothing of coservatives.
8) Conservatives are the ultimate arbiters of politeness, you are rude.
9) Conservatives make pointed comments, your's are pointless.
10) Conservatives are interesting , you are boring.
11) Conservatives statements are full and sufficient, your's require details and citations.
12) Conservatives' unsubstantiated remarks must be accepted as gospel, your'smust be retracted.
13) Conservatives pin demeaning nicknames on the oposition, your doing so shows desperation.
14) Conservatives are defined by their inconsistencies, your's defeats your arguments.
15) Conservatives ape your tactics with no compunction, your tactics are out of line.
16) Conservatives are secure in their omniscience, you are merely out to impress.
17) Conservatives always must have the last word, unless cornered.
18) Conservatives may hold grudges forever, you must get over it.
19) What therefore God hath joined together, let conservatives put asunder that they may smite
their enemies as "liberals."
20) Lather , rinse, repeat.Ready, neo con? Fire away..... I'm really not listening anyway.

In my years at Current I've seen lower a few times but very rarely so it's close to the record. I've also gotten higher than 16 a few times, but again very rarely.
Most of the people who get the "cold shoulder badge" are proud of it because it feeds their "martyr complex" with the "righteousness of their cause" and helps them project the blame onto others for being so misguided to disagree with their dogma.

Sounds accurate. I would say that some people need to go around dropping land mines just to reassure themselves that they are still alive. It's like that guy at the park that no one wants to listen to but it's hard to ignore him because he has a megaphone.

What a comeback ! You have all the extreme rhetoric of the far right at your disposal , and all you can manage is a wimpy "jiberish." I always knew you didn't have what it takes to win a political skermish since all you can do is type out Rethug talking points, but that response is a new low. Jiberish? ROFLMFAO !

She's in his administration. They're basically on the same page. There's no more hats needed in the ring. You should help fight the people she's fighting rather than fighting the guy who made her a household name.
Why can't all these progressives figure out who's fighting with and against them?

Warren's hat is already in the ring, she annouced on Maddow's show that she would run for the Senate in Massachusetts in 2012,
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/14/elizabeth-warren-appears-on-rachel-madd...
Warren said she was spurred to run against incumbent Scott Brown by "getting out and talking to families all around in Massachusetts ... who said, 'We're in real trouble here, and we need someone who's gonna talk about these issues.'"
"I am not giving up on this," Warren continued. "I am ready to take this fight all the way to the floor of the United States Senate."

Yeah, a meek woman with no foreign policy experience as the Commander in Chief and a self-described socialist as VP. You really know how to win hey? Unless you actually want something like Ryan/Rubio in 2016 you should really consider the possibility that your instincts aren't very good.

It is still possible for a person from the same administration to run in a primary election. This progressive understands that. She is a lot tougher on the teatards than President Obama is. He is still trying to have a meeting of the minds with the mindless.
